Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by met on Nov 22, 2017 23:10:52 GMT 1, Thanks for the advice re the different types of glass. Can someone give me an indication of price to get this frame printed, if i were to go down the museum glass etc... There are too many variables with framing to give you a clear price estimate.
It will depend on your choice of framer. Some are far more experienced, knowledgeable and skilled than others. They may also have access to very impressive facilities and larger product ranges. The framing techniques and materials you opt for will of course affect pricing as well.
As far as materials are concerned, the most significant cost will be the glazing. Prices here vary widely, even between glazing that shares similar properties. For example, UV acrylic tends to be noticeably more expensive than UV glass.
When investing in quality framing for a print the size of Sale Ends, the £500 mark can easily be reached if you choose anti-reflective, UV acrylic.
____________
I'm wary of handholding exercises because they can discourage people from being resourceful and independently-minded. But I'll indulge on this occasion.
Here are details of five London-based framers you can contact for price quotes and to bounce ideas off of:
Darbyshire (near Angel tube station) 19-23 White Lion Street London N1 9PD Tel: 020 7812 1200 Email: enquiries@darbyshire.uk.com www.darbyshire.uk.com
John Jones (near Finsbury Park tube station) The Arts Building, Morris Place London N4 3JG Tel: 020 7281 5439 Framing quotation page: www.johnjones.co.uk/#quote-booking-form Email: info@johnjones.co.uk www.johnjones.co.uk
Pauli Frames (near North Acton rail station) 17b Sunbeam Road North Acton London NW10 6JP Tel: 020 8961 3023 info@pauliframes.com pauliframes.com
Fletcher Frames (near Barbican tube station) 12 Kinghorn Street London EC1A 7HT Tel: 020 7726 4811 Email: mail@fletcherframes.co.uk www.fletcherframes.co.uk
SE1 Picture Frames (15–20 minute walk from Bermondsey Station or London Bridge Station) Alaska Buildings 61 Grange Road London SE1 3BA Tel: 020 7394 0235 Email: info@se1pictureframes.co.uk se1pictureframes.co.uk
____________
If liaising with framers by email, there follows a template you can use as a starting point.
Amend as appropriate, depending on your framing preferences and writing style:
Dear Sirs, I would be grateful to receive a price estimate for the following framing work of a screenprint on paper: Artwork details Artist: Banksy Medium: Limited edition, 2-colour screenprint on [Insert paper details if known, e.g. Arches 300gsm paper.] Size: 56 x 76 cm Unframed
Framing requirements 'Museum Level' framing (or 'Conservation Level' at a minimum) pursuant to Fine Art Trade Guild (FATG) framing standards, i.e. using archival framing materials and fully-reversible techniques. Considering a minimalist, thin (about 1–1.5 cm width) white or black box frame, with a slightly raised float-mount. Perhaps a border of around 2–3 cm between the print and frame edges, meaning the outer frame dimensions would measure approximately 62 x 82 cm or 65 x 85 cm. In keeping with FATG framing standards for conservation framing, would like to avoid the use of any self-adhesive tape for attaching the artwork. Hinge mounting instead, using Japanese paper (if possible, with no sulfite pulp content) and a water-based adhesive. Glazing requirements UV-filtering and anti-reflective acrylic or glass — possibly a Tru Vue acrylic (like Optium Museum Acrylic) or Tru Vue glass (like UltraVue Laminated Glass or Museum Glass), depending on pricing.
Preferred deadline [Insert deadline or confirm if there's no specific deadline.]
Thank you for your time. Best regards,
[Insert name and contact details.]
____________
A final note:
Going for quality framing (instead of cutting corners) is a financial sacrifice. It is often accompanied by a certain level of resentment — especially when the cost of framing approaches or exceeds the cost of the actual artwork.
But this is also a sacrifice I am convinced is worth making. For me, it's comparable to investing in a good suit that I'll wear and appreciate for many years to come.
Good luck.

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by Rouen Cathedral on Nov 23, 2017 0:12:28 GMT 1, I’m one for thinking people over frame and spend way to much on framing.
That said if I had won a banksy print for 500 pounds I would not be skimping on the framing.

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by rpaz720 on Nov 23, 2017 9:29:22 GMT 1, Mine has cleared customs and is on its way to my place. I very badly want to take it out of the tube to see it in all its glory, but am worried about doing any damage to it before taking it to the framers. Any tips for being extra cautious, or should I just not risk it?

What do you expect? Clearly the winners weren’t ‘vetted’ and as a result this will be the discussion. Just wait till the talk turns to sale price. That’s what will come later.

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by Ruggs on Nov 23, 2017 14:38:40 GMT 1, I have to say, I'm not particularly enjoying all these posts about shipping and high vrs. low numbers. Hurrumph. Have there been any comments yet about the image? Maybe that will come later. Co(sour grapes)ach Surprised you didn't get one coach. A know a few stalwart forum members deservedly got one, I'd have genuinely put you in that bracket.

Haven't opened mine yet, but from what I have seen others post, the print does look lovely. Feel lucky to have managed to get one and feel for those who have been part of the scene for a long time that didn't

Just the luck of the draw mate. I hope you got one Ruggs. (I don't really have sour grapes, though would have dearly liked one)

I like your wishful thinking Ruggs. Let's stay positive!

I'm thinking the same and trying to imagine where Festival might fit in with some a future venture.

Have there been any comments yet about the image? Maybe that will come later. Co(sour grapes)ach This is what I deplore about the WeiWei sculpture, many pages about shipment, how cheap/flippable it is, blah blah and not a single word about the cause behind the project. I got a WeiWei finger for this, expect a Rude Cop finger. The cause is for people to fund the very very wealthy Weiwei indirectly through the art fund.

A friend and I were talking, wouldn’t it be something if POW had one last queue for the festival print. Would seem fitting.

Where do the assumptions come regarding the drop of a festival print ?

No assumption, just thought it would be fitting. Highly unlikely, but would make for a grand exit of chaos.

hah ! you had me going for a second! I just didn't see how a print that was already released in 2006 would make a comeback..... a different colourway ,maybe ..? it'd be amazing, I'd go to london just for the experience !
