I have a framed Banksy "Tesco Value Soup cans" poster which I bought a few years ago at an appropriate market price (they used to be really cheap!!) & have never had any reason to question it's authenticity until recently when I noticed how the prices have sky rocketed and looked at them closer!

The signature stamp on mine is lighter than the ones I've compared it to on-line but I don't believe it's value was high enough at the time to it be worthwhile faking!

I've heard / read 2 stories...
1. The signature was printed with the poster &
2. the signature was hand stamped on after - which would explain colour difference

Can anyone advise / help?

Just checked and mine (also bought direct from POW) is EXACTLY the same as Silky's - including exactly the same imperfections in every letter of the signature - which strongly suggests the signature was printed not hand stamped

This is an interesting one! Fakers tend to be quite accurate with something like this. Why would you go to the effort of creating a fake and then do the banksy in totally the wrong colour?

I was thinking the same - it's probably a long shot but perhaps there was an early run where the sig was hand stamped? then they got bored of doing that (as unlimited edition) and printed the sig on the next run.

Might be worth asking at POW...

Although on Wendy's one even the cans look like a slightly lighter blue and I think whole thing perhaps looks a little lower resolution and more wobbly...

i would usually choose a moment like this to educate potential buyers upon the specific areas of difference between fake and genuine posters, but out of solidarity with dr plip - the forum's most entertaining, unbiased, and least offensive member, who inexplicably is no longer allowed a voice here - i too will be silent.

It just seems a bit strange to me...

When I bought it they weren't rare & still pretty cheap....
The fakes were clearly advertised as copies & were identical to the ones with darker signatures...

if you're going to fake something then make it look like all the others - no?
& Why spend ££ framing something if it was fake, when you could have bought a "non fake" for a tenner?

I bought it in March 2015 from an eBay seller with very few sales & all good feedback for £225 - I can't retrieve the rest of the info but I remember having no reason to doubt the seller! (although this seems well inflated from the original fiver it was the average going price at the time, however it was framed so therefore best one around) There may have been a receipt mentioned in the description but I was inexperienced with record keeping then & can't retrieve the sale info any more - oops!
