It certainly feels like with the passage of time it has become less and less important (apart from for tired journalistic taglines) all it intrinsically means is we concentrate on the images and not the man that bit more and if they were awful the scrutiny would shatter the myth quickly. At the end of the day, the work is all that matters.

I would have enjoyed his installation at the MOCA just as much if I would know who he is. There are many street artist that are very successful while showing their face. I enjoy going to a show and talk to the artist. I just talked to Hera & Akut at their show opening and got my books signed. That made it more enjoyable to me.

The best thing you can do is look at opportunity cost. If you look what else is on the market for prices in line with Banksy, it is fairly easy to see how over-priced he is right now, especially prints. At this point in history, you're buying a brand not a track record.

Zippy, there was an original colourway that failed to reach a reserve of ยฃ30k at Bonhams a couple of months ago (got to about ยฃ28.8k if I remember rightly). I know that isn't hammer price, but that was the basis for my estimate. On reflection though, maybe ยฃ30k - ยฃ40k is more realistic and certainly at higher end of that price range for the colourways.
