People running out and spending entire paychecks to get something they don't want to miss out on because of the lie it was limited. It's the fact that maybe instead of throwing down $700 which is a ton of money for some people in one day opposed to over a 6 month period building their collection is what sucks. It's misleading and I think it makes him a greedy asshole. He seriously sounds like he is completely out of touch with his fan base that aren't super wealthy. |

I personally don't care how big the edition is. I mean when I got to the checkout screen and the price was $200 I assumed it was going to be a massive edition.
I'm happy to finally have a Kaws vinyl. I'm not happy I was billed twice for it.
They eventually replied to my email and said they'll be returning the second payment. Massive pain in the arse all the same.

Be in art or music I've always found it easier to separate the person from their work. The only issue I have besides the payment fuck ups, is the cloak and dagger shit around price and edition numbers. I personally don't care how big the edition is. Totally agree. No one was made to buy this release. People opted in of their own free will. If you opted in because you liked and wanted the piece itself with no motivation beyond owning a piece of art that you will enjoy then you ended up happy.
If you opted in because you needed assurance of a return on investment of some sort based on how limited it was or resale value or whatever you were likely unhappy. If you suffer from FOMO, which is very real, and a few hundred is a lot of money to you personally, then this is probably not the best hobby honestly as it can get quite expensive with all the โlimitedโ releases.

Yes, one should buy it for the love of it. Everything I buy, is what I love first, then I also think about how much of an investment it may be in the future. The combination of the two will determine how much I will pay for it.

This is just my opinion, and hope to that I am wrong for all of your who collect Kaws. Prob right. It highly depends on why you collect. Is it for future worth or love of the piece. I'd say most Kaws fans just love his work. I can't seem to find love for his "toys" and think his recent stuff is definitely on the hype train. Yes, one should buy it for the love of it. Everything I buy, is what I love first, then I also think about how much of an investment it may be in the future. The combination of the two will determine how much I will pay for it. |
