This is a bit of an enquiry really, i have been offered a full set of 6 LA edition prints for £8000 which are all the same number. Does this seem a bit too expensive or should i snap his arm off for them???

Banksy Applause Print, by rodlarock on Nov 24, 2006 10:21:45 GMT 1, Same number??
Sounds really strange... but then again why would someone be so stupid to number all the prints the same number??
what number are we talking about here??
Interesting to see what everyone else thinks.. Price seems cheap for a full set!!

Banksy Applause Print, by ratpack on Nov 24, 2006 10:26:24 GMT 1, 1333 for each print?
How could someone get the same number on all? They must have known someone and got a presale?
They certainly didn't queue up for them like everyone else then asked for the same numbre on each!

Chances are you could pick em up individually for much less on ebay. Can't see many forking out for a full set, grannies 600 quid, Applause will soon drop to ca 700.. don't think the numbering makes a difference unless selling as a set.. and I presume youll like some of them enough to keep
I'd say 8k was 2k too much..

Banksy Applause Print, by biggayal on Nov 24, 2006 12:59:30 GMT 1, It's from a guy who runs an online gallery - he reckons that he purchased them from an art dealer who was in front of him in the queue at the LA show. I can't work out if it seems a bit dodgy to me...? He says that he paid £5000+ for them himself. I will get back to him and check for the number and authentication and let you know the outcome....

Banksy Applause Print, by Hoops on Nov 24, 2006 16:15:27 GMT 1, Nothing dodgy in them at all You lined up and bought your prints.......you went back the next day and collected them. As most people bought all 6 they made sure that they where all numbered the same..........The only print where this didnt happen with was Aplause which sold out the fastest. Now paying £1333 per unsigned print is absolute madness considering they are presently £650 ish each...........Unless you can justify paying double to have them all numbered the same........your call.
Oh have i mentioned that I am currently selling my RADAR RAT 330053593591

Banksy Applause Print, by Run Pig Run on Nov 24, 2006 18:28:22 GMT 1, why would you want a whole set? unless you live in some endless corridoor and have an extra 1500 on top of the 8 grand to spend on framing then it does seem a bit odd. they probably don't even look good together.

That's true, people who bought all 6 prints at the LA show were given all the same numbers when possible. In fact, they were first people who collected their prints. They arranged all the prints and put them in tubes with the buyers' names on them, while people who bought 'loose' prints had to wait until the numbering of these prints were sorted out. So generally speaking, low numbers (starting from 50) went to people who bought the entire set. They were collected as early as the 2nd day of the show, while people who bought 'loose' prints had to wait till the 3rd day to collect.

Banksy Applause Print, by pastiepie on Nov 25, 2006 5:04:36 GMT 1, So he paid 1,500 pounds for the set and is selling them for 8,000 pounds? That's higher than ebay prices and obviously not worth it unless the numbers mean something significant to you. Otherwise I'd try and buy the prints as they come out from POW and chase the rest up on ebay.

Banksy Applause Print, by trowel on Nov 23, 2006 23:49:40 GMT 1, I saw a comment the other day saying there were differences between the LA and POW editions of Applause. As someone lucky enough to own a copy of each edition, I thought it'd be interesting to take a closer look...:
Most noticeable is the contrast of the two prints is completely different - LA is far stronger (LA print on left/top of all photos):
Men v men - contrast of main print far stronger in LA print, jackets of men and Applause sign really stand out on POW print (I've checked a few times that the Applause sign isn't actually stuck on!); but sky in POW print far darker from right of the top-left of the Applause sign - sky looks far better on LA print IMHO:
Ship v ship - note POW stamp and numbering in bottom left; also detail on piping and people in background in bottom left is clearer and more photographic in POW print; also note ship name (USS Enterprise ):
Wheels v wheels - note LA numbering is in bottom right - no stamp; jet fumes/Banksy's Tippex stands out far more in the POW print owing to the darkness of the sky; some artifacts of printing in runway and on far right of print, just outside border (possibly just my print):
Sky v sky - see how much darker the sky is in the POW print (on left in this photo, on top of LA print to right); also note how much rougher the top of the POW print image is:
The LA edition is approx 2cm taller and wider in the border (ie. 1cm extra all around) - however the print is the same dimensions; the photo below shows the bottom left when the top right corners are aligned:
Also the LA print has a rougher cut to the deckled edges all around - the base of my POW print is almost perfectly straight (again, could just be my print):
Hope this info is of interest to you ;D

Banksy Applause Print, by Ågent ßacardi on Nov 24, 2006 0:08:11 GMT 1, Great report! ;D
If you don't mind me asking, what do you intend to do with your extra print? Swap? Sell? (No offense intended whatsoever, I'm just simply curious)
I very much prefer the LA edition - looks much better IMO. What's with that vertical line in the sky on the POW print? The whole image just looks so... washed up. Kinda like it came out of a bad photocopy machine to me Perhaps it's different when viewed up close and personal instead of small pictures. When is mine going to arrive??
(P/S. Anybody wanna swap your LA edition with my UK edition? ;D)

Banksy Applause Print, by trowel on Nov 24, 2006 0:22:49 GMT 1, No problem chaps, glad you found it interesting ;D
I find the LA print a much stronger image too. The POW print has much more detail to the carrier and jet, but the two figures dominate too much for my liking - and as you say, the sky looks awful!
Applause was by far my favourite print of the new run, which is why I bought the LA edition in a private sale a while back (£800). I was trying to get the signed version from POW, and once I gave up on it I decided to try for an unsigned because I knew it would be easy to swap for a print I wanted, or sell to cover another purchase... kind of a 'backdoor' swap

Banksy Applause Print, by Ågent ßacardi on Nov 24, 2006 0:32:40 GMT 1, Honestly, I'm a little disappointed with POW's version of Applause... and I haven't even received mine yet! It appears so washed out that it's almost monotone... at least, from the small-ish pictures on here. The LA edition just looks so much sharper and crispier.
Hey bollox, if you manage to get a Sale Ends, I'll swap my Applause for it (plus £100)
