Banksy Golf Sale Print, by Poly Mindset on Jan 29, 2015 3:27:09 GMT 1, Auction prices do not set the new standard. But good luck with the sale! I tend to disagree with you. I know many art buyers that see auction values as guidelines to buy and sell from. When many art buyers come across a piece the first thing they do is check auction values, high or low, good or bad. Hate to tell you, but I think you already know a new precedence was set today for Banksy pieces and they'll most likely IMO only go up from here.

I tend to disagree with you too. But that's the fun of forum's... you can discuss (dis)agreements Price may go up, or they may not... But someone spending 3500GBP on a Flags in auction doesn't make the flags print worth 3500GBP instantly. Only yesterday we discussed if flags was worth 2 or 1.5k. The auction results do not set a new standard over night, that's all i am saying. Doesn't mean i think the seller will not find a buyer for his Golf sale... imo. just not a buyer willing to pay close to promoted / hyped auction results.

So where does that put unsigned pieces? I posed that question earlier today. What is the value ratio of a Banksy signed compared to an unsigned piece? I got no responses, I imagine because we don't know yet. The big mystery. But I tend to agree with Andy from Castle Gallery who's prediction a few weeks ago was that we will start to see the typically lesser price Banksy pieces start to catch up somewhat with the higher pieces. I guess time will tell.

And I don't think there is a rule of thumb but i have seen people say unsigned x3 or x4 for signed (or signed :3 or :4 for unsigned).
But get the OP thread back on track. (enough with auction results and prices)

Banksy Golf Sale Print, by cmodart on Jan 29, 2015 5:17:10 GMT 1, as much as i want to projectile vomit all over the "for sale" section... auction prices are clearly relevant to pricing. I do think one has to discount appropriately for the fees, etc... Seller Net is probably closer to private party sales pricing.

The fact is these massive auction houses have the ability to bring an item to the masses who normally wouldn't know where to begin to purchase the item itself.
Auctions are a funny thing, I have a friend who's dad used to own a small scale one in Baltimore. He'd say it would be funny what you could sell someone because you were presenting it in an auction house rather than eBay or craigslist. The bidders are under this false impression that it's now or never because they don't know that the items are easily obtainable with simple internet searches.
No real collector who is "in the scene" would pay those amounts for the prints and we all know it. You don't see our wanted section full of "Wanted - Will pay Bonham's hammer price" because we know it isn't worth that.
But when you got a bunch of money in a room or a bunch of eyes on a popular auction house website...You're gonna find collectors of art or just people with "F-U" money who don't care what it costs they just want it.
The silver lining here is...You can't find those people on the forums. You can try, maybe you'll find a sucker here or there. But in reality auction pricing rarely "clearly relates" to what's happing on the secondary market.
That's like saying Kaws 4 foots are $40K now b/c of the Niko auction...I'll get you 2 for $15K each tomorrow, one from a gallery and one from a private seller.
Don't believe the hype. What clearly relates here is people who own the items that just sold on the auctions end up being the ones that hype it up, everyone else is a realist.

Banksy Golf Sale Print, by ukcrooky on Jan 29, 2015 11:35:41 GMT 1, Can we get this post back on subject, not a discussion about the Bonham auction
I mentioned the auction earlier only in reply to the comment of my original asking price. I posted this sale prior to any knowledge of the auction results and felt it as a fair price for me
I know this is not going to be the price of the person who would like to purchase but we have to start somewhere. Hence my "in the region of" comment
Thanks

Forum members hold their breath for the auction results. Then judge those results depending on the level of self interest they have in the pieces at auction. If they own them, the price is brilliant. If they want to own them, the price is bollocks. The true value is somewhere between brilliant and bollocks.
Congrats on owning something of value. I hope you and a buyer find a mutually agreeable price.

Banksy Golf Sale Print, by dotdot on Jan 29, 2015 17:58:28 GMT 1, reckon it's a fairly cool price... otherwise - if you're in need put it on the bay , whilst there's a general okness here - of late it's gone kind of sour - perhaps the time of year , bills bills etc. (or an in fux or rif rahf , who knows/cares..)
as ever it's the sellers choice - many here would give a lot for one .. perhaps not a kidney though.
glwys.
