New Elms Show!, by Harveyn on Oct 5, 2007 9:51:59 GMT 1, God I want a Neate original.
Two problems
1) Half my collection would have to go!!! 2) Unless you know someone at the gallery they are going to continue to sell these before the general public have a chance (Frankie anything you can do for me!!)
Green with........ ;D ;D ;D

New Elms Show!, by pezlow on Oct 5, 2007 13:45:08 GMT 1, Just come back from seeing the show. Great show. All 3 Neate's were stunning, although I didn't think much of the bottle. The smoking one is good but for me Brick Lane was the best for the sheer size and the way it tipped it's hat to how Adam started out.
I also like the invader and dalek stuff. Parla's in the flesh were pretty good too.

I was suprised to see that still for sale. How much is it? I wonder why they didnt sell as a sett, works brilliantly. Maybe the price will explain that

New Elms Show!, by JD on Oct 5, 2007 15:20:22 GMT 1, Just back from Elms . Have to tell about the Neate smokers for anyone who cant get to London but has seen the pictures on here. Its genius because the smokers are set way back from the glass but the smoke is on the glass. It actually looks like a smokey bar, remember those? Really really good art. New favourite. Anyone get a price list, I know they were all sold but how much?

New Elms Show!, by speebe on Oct 5, 2007 20:38:47 GMT 1, The only prices listed for Adams work was 'The Drink' which was the small figure in the bottle for £9,000 ... Not so sure about that piece.
IMO the small Neate piece - Etched Memories was the strongest piece from his collection.
At a distance even alongside the Large - Brick Lane piece Etched Memories was really powerful.

New Elms Show!, by slowmo on Oct 6, 2007 10:05:02 GMT 1, I have always reserved judgement on Parla, having never seen one in the flesh before. I was totally underwhelmed, cannot understand the attraction of them at all! Other artists I have reserved judgement on, Ron English, actually a lot better than I thought it would be, Phil Frost, bloody amazing, Antony Lister left me cold again, Dalek was awesome, you could really get lost in them and space invader was nice too

It's funny - for me Neate's Brick Lane was a huge disappointment. Possibly my least favourite Neate gallery piece to date. IMO the composition is just really flat. Unlike most of Adam's work, I found little life or emotion in this piece. Contrast "Last Man Standing" (I think that's the name of the smoking piece), which literally tickles my throat just looking at it. Just Awesome!
I'm not the biggest fan of Invader's pixel portraits, though love the way he approached the Small, Medium and Large theme. Tackling the same image 3 times, but using small, medium and large pixels.
Frost's works are probably the most distinctive from the show. Nice work from Parla. Plus like Dalek's change in direction. God knows how he manages to get his acrylics so smooth. Also some interesting bits from the others.
All in, another great show from Elms. Well worth a visit if you're in London.
EDIT - Love the fact that I got negative respect from someone for this post.
