Walrus Boy, by beejoir1 on Jun 6, 2007 4:44:05 GMT 1, Yeh, fair point MachesterMike -- but the thing is his freehand drawings are so vastly different from his stencil work that you could easily confuse the two as seperate artists. I think it's important to have a clear and consistent body of work. That goes for all/any artist/s.
I prefer to see different styles and mediums, Banksy's stencils, though amazing were getting a bit too similar, when the crude oils came out it was a real breath of fresh air!
Personaly I prefer AMPs drawings to his stencils for some reason.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this point jaypaav. In my opinion the opposite is true.
I think that artist should continually experiment and push the boundaries or else interest is lost and the the body of work is simply watered down. Its exciting to see work that is totally different from what the artist is known for doing, when it makes you question if it is even that particular artist work. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you were trying to say, but thats what signatures are for isn't it.
I was very surprised to see this Micallef because of how different it is from his usual stuff, but I think that it makes his body of work much stronger and demonstrates his versatility.

Walrus Boy, by BK83 on Jun 7, 2007 15:36:33 GMT 1, Definately agree that artists should explore a variety of mediums/style etc., but it is important for there to be some form of consistency with regards to an overall body of work. The Micallef piece you have posted has his signature style of portraiture written all over it! the use of brushstrokes and the way the forms are created are congruent to Micallef's style. The problem I had with AMP's Walrus Boy piece is that the stencil graphic is completely in contrast rather than congruence to what we are familiar with in regards to his relative work.

Walrus Boy, by Strange Al on Jun 7, 2007 16:10:54 GMT 1, For me art is about personal expression. How can an artist truly express themselves if they're bound by the confines of having to create a clear and consistent body of work?

Walrus Boy, by Imoy-San on Jun 8, 2007 8:22:19 GMT 1, Walrus Boy is on at Souled Out...
"New prints from Beejoir and AMP
Our first Double print release, AMP's Walrus Boy, and Beejoir's unsigned LV Child are now up for sale, AMP, is just as well known for his illustration work as he is for his stencils, this being one of our personal favorites, Walrus + Boy = Walrusboy! Simple. A beautiful five Colour screen print stamped, signed and numbered edition of 65.
Beejoir's LVChild was so popular that we have been forced to release it as an unsigned print, limited to 400 stamped and numbered three colour screen prints, we are not doing this just to stop the ''do you have any LV prints left'' emails, or to make a fast buck, its more of a cunning ploy to make some money for the new charity that we are supporting, (click here)
Email Kate at kate@souledoutstudios.co.uk to order either or both of these prints.
The hand painted Turin Scam prints are ready to ship now, if you were one of the lucky people to get one, please mail me your address and I'll pop it in the post this coming week, sorry again for the delay.
Finally, we have three of Scorn's Tarot cards left if anyone is still looking for one, I'm sorry from the bottom of our shallow hearts, if your trying to sell one on ebay at the moment either because your partner doesn't like it, to pay for your mortgage or to make a fast buck.
.......... oh and the Shell Blood for Oil print will not be ready for another 2-3 weeks, and I'm sorry we can't take orders for them as they are so limited."

Walrus Boy, by bored with screen names on Jun 8, 2007 22:31:58 GMT 1, Well I'm in the US and it's scary enough the first time opening the package up to see if everything arrived safe and sound, so I'm afraid not! I would, however, accept the pink and green to be <ahem> loaned to me so I can display all three

Therefore one has to make the odd small sacrifice in order to dominate the wall space!

and now I just found out that it doesn't end there .. the tube with my unsigned LV child seemed alright but the print is in even worse state that the Walrusboy .. .. but I am of course in no doubt that SoS will sort me out with replacements..
