Sandra Chevrier - new timed release, by Jaylove on Jan 12, 2018 13:50:48 GMT 1, I look at this work and just think its so repetitive and tired, superman on a birds face in my living room.... easy pass. That's a fair criticism, but it will be nice to finally be able to get a piece for under $1K. I've tried and failed at these releases so many times.
She will eventually have to evolve and I think she knows that.

If she doesn't evolve (unlikely imho) she doesn't even become a footnote, with this a fancy signed poster.

Maybe I’ll be able to buy more fancy posters at a heavily discounted price. I’m not trying to get rich off art. I like an image, I buy it. Cheerier has a special place for me as we are from the same town so I support her.

Sandra Chevrier - new timed release, by met on Jan 14, 2018 5:06:27 GMT 1, I don't see how you can interpret natstan's post that way..... Makes no sense at all. Unless you are a woman. I like you mate, but sexism is never funny to be honest... Blanket statements always pique my interest, so I hope you'll indulge me here.
Although difficult to tell for certain from just the one line, I sense you're being sincere. If the comment is indeed serious, query to what extent it was thought through.
Sexist jokes will never make you laugh or smile — under any circumstances?
Are you also suggesting that sexism should be out-of-bounds as a subject of humour or comedy?

Do these "forbidden sexist jokes" include the ones that mock simple and perv men? Or they only refer the ones that mock strong and independent women?

Well..... if we seriously are going to discuss this......
I don't see how my remark is sexist. It is merely pointing out a difference in men and women on the matter of logic. It is in no way referring to men being superior to women. Women are equal to men. Doesn't mean they are the same. Hey, even my girlfriend is woman. And now that I think of it; so is my mom!
If you would like to defend that women have the same logic as men ; good luck with that! I wanted to add : "That makes no sense at all. Unless you are a woman." But I think most women would agree with me. Although I would have no idea why. So I didn't. Although it looks like I did.
I have a sense you like me a little less now.

Sandra Chevrier - new timed release, by Chris JL on Jan 14, 2018 16:39:02 GMT 1, Dive Jedi : nah, still like you (and your sharks too). Just reacted to what I perceived as sexist since (from the data evidence linked) we know that it is good to do so. A comment by a former colleague of mine (a specialist of gender effects in bargaining protocols) comes to my mind: making inference about the nature of women by observing them in our society is like making inference about the nature of monkeys by observing them in a zoo (I think this was based on a citation I can’t recall). Anyway, back to the SC release since this is what this discussion is about, and any serious query (the other ones are not worth the time tbh) on sexism, humour, and gender norms is better addressed by google scholar, and there is already the relevant pointer above.

Sandra Chevrier - new timed release, by met on Jan 14, 2018 18:07:54 GMT 1, Blanket statements always pique my interest, so I hope you'll indulge me here. If yours is a serious enquiry, here are all the evidence based answers that you need (focus on the peer reviewed works): scholar.google.co.uk/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=sexist+and+humor&btnG=Executive summary of this large body of research: sexist humour is no laughing matter at all.
Thank you for engaging. It's appreciated, since you could easily have ignored my post in the interest of a quiet Sunday. Not everyone welcomes a debate, or reacts so calmly when their ideas are challenged.
_____________
Those links to Google articles are fine, but they're a deflection as well, aren't they?
Here's the way I see your reply, and hopefully my candour will not cause offence:
You're ducking the specific issues raised by answering neither of the questions I asked.
Now, if the sidestepping was unintentional, that's okay. But you might also have deliberately avoided those two questions — perhaps because your answers were uncomfortable or inconvenient. This latter scenario would be one of intellectual dishonesty. And no genuine discussion is possible in such a case.
So I'll try asking my questions again:
1. Sexist jokes will never make you laugh or smile — under any circumstances?
2. Are you also suggesting that sexism should be out-of-bounds as a subject of humour or comedy?
_____________
Please rest assured that I understand the arguments in favour of assertions like "sexism is never funny".
I also believe identical or very similar arguments can be made regarding many other topics which (for all sorts of reasons) comedians and laypeople joke about. Here are just a handful:
age race social class poverty religion / god / Jesus Christ / the pope / mullahs paedophilia / paedophiles incest rape torture murder the Holocaust / genocide / democide Hitler / Stalin / Mao concentration camps / gulags / reeducation camps abortion dead babies domestic violence schizophrenia / mental illness autism cancer AIDS JFK's assassination / all the dead Kennedys Charles Manson / Sharon Tate Space Shuttle Challenger Tiananmen Square Tank Man Diana Spencer's car crash 9/11 / terrorist atrocities / terrorists corporate manslaughter tsunamis / avalanches / natural disasters
You may well say that joking about the above is in poor taste, even indecent.
But that is a separate matter altogether. It's distinct from claiming these topics can never be funny. Or that they should perhaps be no-go areas when it comes to humour.
_____________
I'm persisting here because your broad-brush original comment seemed like demagogy to me. [And I cannot think of many things that are more frightening than well-intentioned demagogy.] This, as opposed to a position taken after:
(i) all the nuances or grey areas of a subject have been considered; and
(ii) careful thought has been given to any first principles relied upon — including what would happen if those first principles were followed through to their logical conclusions.
By way of illustration, it seems the logical conclusion of your position would be a call for the likes of Chris Morris, Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr to be taken off air. Or at least censored until deemed acceptable by those who choose to police the appropriateness of comedy routines.
I put it to you that such an outcome would be a societal regression.

Peer reviewed and evidence based appropriate humor in a journal articles written by those lacking humor. Sweet.

Sandra Chevrier - new timed release, by cogitobcn on Jan 14, 2018 18:41:32 GMT 1, met, I love your posts, but I think that you are applying too much logic and objectivity for someone that 1) refers to gender studies papers as "evidence", and 2) points them to avoid replying the criticisms to the PC debate started by himself.
(By the way, I think that we are ruining this thread, it would be great if these posts were moved to their own thread and the discussion could evolve.)

Agreed.
Edition size is indeed an interesting thing for time releases. For the resale minded ones large demand should indicate high upside in principle. But since it generates large releases, there should be a counteracting value dilution effect. Not sure how the professional flippers play this. If lack of coordination among them is a fair assumption, I would expect flippers oversubscription and corresponding lower appreciation post release.
Has anybody observed these dynamics?

Sandra Chevrier - new timed release, by cjwhitey on Jan 16, 2018 17:38:58 GMT 1, $295 (plus shipping fees to the US) is an easy pass for me. For a while, I was after a Chevrier piece and was always frustrated with the prices on the secondary market, but the more I look at her work, I realize I can't see where I would put it in my apartment. I appreciate her artistic aesthetic, but I think the comic book/face thing gets old pretty quickly.

Sandra Chevrier - new timed release, by lucyloo on Jan 17, 2018 17:38:40 GMT 1, It seems to me the manner artists release prints these days is the best manner to kill the flipper market. Open editions, timed edition... i like it. This will also kill the scene short/long term IMO.....
Shit I should just go back to collecting Baseball cards etc. These are editions for the whiners and little bitches that can't score on drop day. There was none of this timed, open edition bullshit years back. It's suppose to be limited edition art and I'm tired of all these Open Editions etc. Not an attack on you Nat at all just making an observation is all. But Bring back the good ole bun fights and limited editions! Tired of the moaning and complaining from people whom can't score on drops. Fucking pathetic if you ask me that grown men go on Social media and complain because they didn't get a pretty piece of paper. You win some and lose some, that's life! Pretty much every artist is doing this shit now, Parra, Chevrier etc etc.

I guess you have a few limited edition Chevrier & Parra prints then...
... that’s my observation.
Plus most drops ARE bun fights and not all bun fighters get lucky. This way everyone gets a bun... Pardon the pun!

Plus most drops ARE bun fights and not all bun fighters get lucky. This way everyone gets a bun... Pardon the pun! LOL. So easy to tell. For some people it's all about the $. I'm not trying to make it rich with art. Some people actually like the images. I grew up with art all over the house. I buy to frame. Sometimes you may change your mind on something prior to frame it and you have to sell it. But the problem these days is people seem to only be interested in art based on how limited it is and how much money they can make off of it. The actual image is secondary.
So for the guy who says this is for the whiners? Well, if flippers who didn't set up all kinds of concoctions to buy prints before anyone else only to come along and sell it right back to them a day later, we woudln't see as many "whiners". You know, true fans who want to support the artist but can't because they don't have bots or aren't glued to the computer screen all day F5'ing to make a quick buck.
It's not the flippers that help the artists. It's the true fans who do. Do I wish this was cheaper? Yes and I think it shoudl be but when will I get a chance to buy a SC print without having to pay inflated flipper price?
Nothing worse than trying to cart a print the second it's released and it gets sold by people using backdoor tricks only to have them call you a whiner because you refuse to pay a grossly inflated price from a flipper.
Hope more artists come out with these timed releases.

I own one Parra print which I just purchased the other day and have had others in the past so they don't tickle my fancy. As far as Miss Chevrier goes I believe that she's a very talented artist with a bright future ahead of her. My problem is all the Man Children who whine and moan when they lost out on any drop! Such pussies, grow a pair and sack up fella's it's just a pretty piece of paper. You win some, lose a whole lot more in life but at this rate everyone will soon be doing timed/open editions. Everything should be limited edition as that's why were all here right? Values, speculation, flips, price discussions and flexing on our fellow forum pals. Basically this shit is weak that everyone gets one because they can't do a little research and learn how to buy a print. Pussies....

About the money lmao? Okay you got me!
I'm talking about all of the people that go on social media and bitch/moan. My cart was jacked wahhhhh, my card was declined. Like I said I think you should go collect baseball cards. That's part of the thrill is scoring when all of you pussies don't. BOTS? LOL! Fool this shit is so easy that Poster Bob continues week in and week out to take all your money. Everything I've copped was because my Parents didn't raise me as pussies that bitch when they lose in life. Matter of fact where is Bob when you need him? Bob put this Knob Head in his place please/thank you!
