His pieces are always so visually stunning but the fact they have meaning and relevance to the place and community he paints in just gives it so much more.
His choice of Nelson Mandela quote for the school wall was perfect.

Not seen much gallery work from El Seed I'm going to do some digging. I also watched this one by Dustin Yellin which I found interesting.

El Seed ๐จ๐ต Arabic Graffiti โข Street Art โข Print Release , by Feral Things on Mar 14, 2016 23:01:07 GMT 1, eL Seed has just completed this piece which stretches over seven different settlements in Cairo.ย It is painted in the neighbourhood of Mokattam which means 'cut off'.ย The name originally referred to the hills which physically cut the neighbourhood off from its surroundings but it could equally refer to its Zabbaleen inhabitants who collect the city's rubbish and in many way have been socially cut-off from the rest of society by their extreme poverty.

how would one go about buying an El Seed piece? Your best bet would be to speak to Ouahid at eL Seeds studio; he's very helpful - I'll message you his email address.ย He did have a couple of postcards in the RCA Secret sale last year and that's coming around again next month, so it might be worth keeping an eye on that too. Does anybody have anything done by him on canvas/paper? Interested if it translates. I would love to own something by eL Seed but, unfortunately, I don't.ย Personally, I think his studio work is as strong as his street work.ย One of the things I particularly like about his canvases is the contrast of the hard and definite black script against the softer, more translucent coloured script.ย The former reminds me of people who are absolutely certain of their own opinions, values and wisdom; while the latter reminds me of people who see nuance and uncertainty in the world. |
