Anyone could... but only they did. I didn't necessarily mean it like that. I mean it in terms of skill. I mean even with Basquiat, a lot of people dislike his art as it seems childish and messy, but even his lines of creation are incredibly precise and skillful. This just seems like a third grader did it, and I'm sure a third grader could have. My main question is if that's the appeal. Is he just taking the piss out of the art world and people want to pay a lot for that? To each their own though! |

For me Shrigley is a master of immediate impact. Check out the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square... donโt think theyโre about to offer that to Martin Whatson...

I think that his wordplay and cleverness is really something, and especially in an art world full of pretentiousness. My only real qualm is I just find his prices a little bewildering for a piece that doesn't rely necessarily on skill but more of a clever satiricalness. But again as long as you like it that's all that matters! |

The recognisable part is very true. Never realised it before but I know itโs a shrigley immediately. That individuality must be so difficult to achieve as an artist
