Also, if these prints were stolen, have you filed proceedings against the printer in Birmingham who printed/stole them? I believe he's a member on here...
Im sure some of these have been passed on as original prints, given numbers and provenance.

Yes, wouldn't surprise me - that's where things start getting very dodgy. Given the number of fake Banksy street pieces on ebay - which require nicking an item of street furniture and spraying on a stencil purchased from the same place - adding a number to a backdoor print seems almost easy by comparison...

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by richy00 on May 19, 2008 0:58:08 GMT 1, now why didnt i think of that.. only joking,
i suppose having these prints floating around is a very very bad thing, someone could easily write a number on them or such like, maybe it would be in POW's interest to remove them from circulation, release a statement saying there are no AP's or backdoor banksy prints, and compensate the 'backdoor' owners with a nice banksy poster. it would be in the owners interest to hand in their prints as effectivly after POW's statements they would be worthless.

Who knows? They could be knocked out tomorrow on a new screen for all you know. I'll say no more on the matter other than to implore people to not buy (or sell) these, it's the one and only way to remove them from circulation.
wrong, the only way to remove them from circulation is for POW to remove them, and the only way the owners are going to give them up with with a little incentive. Then after the 'backdoor amnesty' come down very hard on anyone producing unauthorised reproductions, although im sure POW/LAZ/mr b have explored the route of stopping unauthorised replica's etc and found that they cant stop it

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by richy00 on May 19, 2008 1:32:36 GMT 1, in regards to that golf sale i asked the guy for prov etc, he said
I bought it myself from the show, do you want my name to check if I was the original buyer? It is ***** ********.
I don't think you will get very far though as it was purchased in 2003 and as far as I know they hadn't begun to record the buyers for Banksy prints at that point.

I know the fake prints will be of better quality when backdoor prints, but they both just fake prints

Yeah I'm sure they will get right on that for you and get Banksy to make something really special to ensure proper compensation for all your troubles of owning a backdoor/stolen print

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by curiousgeorge on May 19, 2008 13:15:30 GMT 1, For those that are so short sighted- these do nothing but harm the whole scene. Still i guess i if you can make ยฃ300 then the implications for all do not matter.
I can't for life of me understand why people defend the production of backdoor prints, usually under the guise of 'Well it's a viable alternative for fans who cannot afford the real thing' fcuk right off, making out you are doing fans a favour.
Backdoor prints are ALL about the money and NOTHING else
If these are stolen, then why are the same faces touting them instead of getting what's coming?

The truth is ,you should'nt be selling them or your flatmate or the bloke from the pub. You have absolutely no proof these ever came from Pow or any previous print house.

What you didn't know that? Its pretty obvious as thats why there are so many sellers on e bay selling re-pro canvases and lazer prints and coffee mugs and t shirts. If there was a copyright then it wouldn't be allowed... ;D

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by jonpud on May 19, 2008 15:53:21 GMT 1, I have commented before in relation to my feelings about these 'back door' prints, so not going there again.
Fact is, we all know they came from the same print run as the 'official' editions, we all know that they exist, we all know that they will always be worth something to someone who can't afford a registered print, and we all know that it wouldn't take much to pencil in a number and a fake Banksy signature!
So, why as responsible members of this forum don't we do something about it? We are not going to stop them being sold, however a big fat 'TEST PRINT' or 'BACKDOOR PRINT' or 'STOLEN PRINT' written accross the back would at least prevent them being 'manipulated' for profit in the future!
Pretty sure another member who had several for sale actually did this, it didn't affect the price he got for them so no losers in the long run!!
And just a note for Little Bird, I would love it that no one bought these, or that they were destroyed, but lets face it, that aint gonna happen! It's a shame POW didn't have tighter security measures over who was printing these up for them back in the day when they were pretty much worthless! Would never have become an issue if Banksy hadn't become the 'must have' accessory!

You're still trying to con people into thinking these have anything to do with Banksy. Why do you pretend to be fans of Banksy's art?

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by grafffan on May 19, 2008 17:50:53 GMT 1, I personally think, and hard to argue the fact, that this forum in many ways is really an extension of eBay. I mean the prices people ask are the same...think about it. Too many people concerned about the value of their collection versus the personal/sentimentalvalue of the artwork to themselves...pretty sad really, takes away a lot of the fun and true art appreciation conversations. Can definitely tell by how stressed some people get on here, pretty radiculous if you ask me...I know it is not everyone but man o' man, a very large majority.

Be serious PUD. What happens when reproductions start replacing the back door prints. Not from the same print run. Who can tell the difference between a fake and a backdoor print? People only buy these for profit.
