Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by tomhills1 on May 4, 2007 18:18:30 GMT 1, i agree no pick up is not the end of the world, also banksy's signature can and does vary from prints in the same edition and over the years too it has got more angular IMO. the key for me in the sig is how smooth it looks, not the best verb i know. if it looks like it was written in a clear, thin-tipped pencil/pen then you can be confident it's ok. if it looks a bit splodgy then maybe do some digging.
there are places you can go and seek further advice about a print if you think it may be dodgy, i'll PM you the details.

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by maigretjnr on Mar 13, 2007 13:59:29 GMT 1, hi there
new to this forum and not exactly a banksy aficionado (although a big fan!) so pls be patient with me if you will...
ive got monkey queen and love is in the air signed prints that i want to sell. i bought them through a mutual friend of Banksy in 2003. i cant see any numbers, and with the MQ the signature is on the back of the print (bottom left corner). it just says "a/p Banksy 03"... no tag on the MQ or stamp on either. i know this is totally authentic as the source is a college friend of the artist..
any advice about selling these nuggets, and how much i should expet for them much apprciated. prices ive seen quoted on this forum seem mental! id obviously rather not have to sell them at all but there we go...
ta Maigret

Hi Margret, and welcome to the forum! ;D
Well, I guess the signed prices are gonna be £2,000+ each, but with pieces not being numbered, and signed on tha back hmmmm, its hard to say you might be looking at half the a normal value.

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by ©hief' on Mar 13, 2007 14:38:31 GMT 1, Might be a good idea to see if Lazinc will authenticate them. With the proper paperwork you'd certainly get a better price for them (IMO).

Laz does not, nor has he ever authenticated prints he didn't sell. You'd have to back up this print with solid provenance (history), one that satisfied a potential buyer that it was genuine.

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by maigretjnr on Mar 13, 2007 16:06:45 GMT 1, thanks for your help. the friend i got it from has sotheby;s on his case as he has stupid amounts of original banksy stuff... apprently he has authenticated before for this Lazaride gallery so all good. seems these are artist proofs from his initial run before the first run of prints that were numbered. apprently there are a handful of these only. nice!

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by tomhills1 on Mar 13, 2007 18:37:02 GMT 1, my advice would be to get this friend to write an official document detailing when, where and how they came to be in their possession. also if you offer potential buyers the opportunity to view the prints in person they may be a lot more willing to pay top dollar if they can satisfy themselves of their authenticity.
i think you will have a much more limited market, obviously geography is an issue, and a lot of people will be put off by the lack of substantiated provenance. to someone though, they will be happy to spend good money for a more unique version of two classics and get still getting them cheaper than a normal signed edition.
hello by the way and good luck if you do decide to get rid, feel free to chuck some pictures up on this site and we can all have a nose!

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by pastiepie on Mar 14, 2007 5:29:30 GMT 1, Even if you have proper provenance it still might be hard to sell by yourself / on ebay. Follow lw's advice and get all the documentation about this item you can then consider selling through a gallery like andipa and bankrobber who have rich clientelle who would potentially pay more for a rarer item such as an A/P

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by Ågent ßacardi on Oct 20, 2006 20:22:20 GMT 1, I need some advice regarding a second chance offer I've received through eBay (a legit one). The print in question is the Money Queen, unsigned and unnumbered - perhaps a backdoor job, or a blatant copy, I don't know. £102. Is that insane?
If I purchase this print, it would obviously not be as an investment. I just like this image, and thought it would look great on my wall (same for any other Banksy work, for that matter). But I'm thinking that £102 is really crazy for that... if it's a cheap and worthless copy, I shouldn't be paying that kind of money, should I? On the other hand, even if I wanted a cheap worthless copy of the print, I wouldn't know where to get one.
Anyone have any advice for me? Should I tell the seller to go fly a kite? Many thanks!

Well then I guess my question should read: Can I get a cheap worthless copy of Monkey Queen anywhere for less than £102?
I'm really quite turned off by the £102, seeing how it's a lot of money for something that's not worth anymore than the cost of printing it. If I knew someone who had one, I'd just borrow it, make a color photocopy of it, and slap it on my wall. I'm really not interested in the investment aspect.

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by lesroy on Oct 21, 2006 8:21:18 GMT 1, Just to clarify... the copy won't be of "poor" quality.. it will be as perfect as all the other Banksy Monkey Queens.
The problem is that this is a print that left the printers (theft) before it was stamped or numbered, hence it's not part of the run.
Therefore you have a genuine Banksy print for little money... it will never appreciate in price (i hope) and you are funding some c**ts ilegal & wrong activity... but it will look just as good in a frame on a wall as the genuine article!

How does some muppet paying £ 266 for the same dink print make £ 102 any better?
If the seller was 'smart' they'd run off a big clean digital print from the original, advertise them as such, flog em for BIN £25.00 & clean up.

Banksy Monkey Queen Print, by Ågent ßacardi on Oct 21, 2006 18:16:31 GMT 1, Many thanks to all your input, felllas!
Actually, this second chance offer was from the very same one that sold for £266 last week. In the email that I received, the seller said that it was up for sale because the winner failed to pay for it. Here's the suspicious part... I may have put my maximum bid at £102 (It was impulsive), but the fact that it sold for £266 means that there must be at least 2 other bidders bidding after me to drive it up to £266. So if the winner didn't pay for it, shouldn't the second chance offer be sent to the second-highest bidder instead of me? £266 is a long way from £102! Plus, even if the highest bidder failed to pay, doesn't eBay rules state to allow at least 7 days before declaring a non-paying bidder? It had been merely 2 days since the auction ended when I received the second chance offer.
Furthermore, this seller was the same seller that sold a backdoor copy of Monkey Queen back in July - there was a thread on this very board about it:
banksyforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?board=policeaware&action=display&thread=1153340965&page=1
Seems like the seller's either making many copies of it, or (s)he stole quite a few backdoor copies.
Even though I love the image and I'm really not interested in buying it as an investment, I'm leaning towards "no", simply because £102 is too much money to give to a thug... and I would feel stupid to have walked right into a rip-off. Still, I have a few more days to think about it... anyone have any further thoughts?

Cheapest I've seen these dink prints go for was £ 82 inc p&p. Your plan to just photocopy/scan an original would certainly be the easiest way of aquiring said image, but GL finding someone to help you with that...
If it was me I guess I'd scan the MK pic in the back of W&P, knock up the red/white/blue background in Photoshop, clean up the Monkey scan & lay it over the top. Take the disc to a copy shop & print the poster on a high quality colour copier.
