Shill Bidding. Does this look right to You?, by saint on Mar 10, 2018 11:39:04 GMT 1, I googled shill, should have done that earlier....
an accomplice of a confidence trickster or swindler who poses as a genuine customer to entice or encourage others.

Shill Bidding. Does this look right to You?, by Deleted on Mar 18, 2018 20:44:40 GMT 1, Just before i go bren. Nasty thing to do on someone if you don't know what your talking about. Its easy to lead members astray when you work in packs, as the users don't see the thread in the right light. Also just putting up half the bidding tells me you know more than your saying. You knew this would lead the users astray. Best to leave it now and not edit it as there will be users who see through you with this thread. As i said to you before and i apologized to you for it (big mistake), its "good cop (you) and bad cop" the rest of the pack. You even have your other buddy back to help you make a fool of yourself........ Note also the way there are not many making comments only your pals, what does that tell you.....
Sorry, yes you are right, I have edited my first post to show the full bidding ( i edited it originally as i didn't realise it would be an issue, and would make the post shorter)
I still don't Understand how this cannot be shill bidding?
I see it as bidder 5***1 and bidder 1***k shilling both of the auctions 3 months apart.
I guess we can go around in circles on this. So unless someone can show me how it isnt, i'll take it that it is

Shill Bidding. Does this look right to You?, by saint on Mar 19, 2018 10:53:38 GMT 1, Looking into this a bit as I was interested, I am not sure if this is shill bidding.
Looking at an ebay sale I had recently I see results like the ones you posted on the first page of this thread Bren, and it looks like the same bidder has bid 3 times in a row at different prices. However when I click "show automatic bids" it shows that some one else had bid in between these, so it is to do with automatic bidding, and perhaps this may be why you are seeing those bidders come up lots of times in a row?.... Have you checked the same auctions and clicked "show automatic bids"?
Saying that, I have not looked into this guys sale and I have no idea if I'm right or not, but thought it was worth mentioning in terms of learning about shill bidding.... And I am not justifying him acting like a bit of a t**t on a public forum, but then I dont think accusations are that useful unless proven so swings and roundabouts....

Shill Bidding. Does this look right to You?, by Happy Shopper on Mar 19, 2018 11:57:44 GMT 1, It's a fairly usual bidding pattern...
BUT... either the 1 feedback user is naive, stupidly raising the price they have to pay themselves (Very possible)... They put in high, early bids, but didn't return at the end of the auction to make sure they won! Or it's the seller using another account to create a reserve price (Which I guess could be called Shill Bidding).
Hard to tell, but suspicious... like ex Russian spies killed on UK soil... evidence points in one direction, but could be a coincidence!

Yes i did act like a t**t on this site, hands up guilty. This all started when i put up a thread about bullying and abusive language on the site. Pysgod put up something about me and shill bidding and bren jumped on the bandwagon. What he didn't do was make sure he knew what he was talking about, so i suggested he start a thread on shill bidding, but he used my ebay account as a sample. He seems to know noting about bidding so i think he should have left out my account, as there is noting wrong with it. You are right about auto bids but that still makes no odds to an auction as the seller can have many accounts to do this with. Its the same in any auction house all you need is an email address to bid your items up (apart from top auction houses) There is a few users on this site who get their kicks slagging off other users, artists and whoever they can for their little daily bit of gratification. That's fine its a form, but then its gets very abusive when these little boys don't get their own way. Out comes the C**t, W****R, S******G, etc etc. About this thread, it was all about my account and not about how bidding works, i know this and bren 100% knows this..

Hard to tell, but suspicious... like ex Russian spies killed on UK soil... evidence points in one direction, but could be a coincidence! To be honest anytime i want an auction to get to a certain price, is it not just as easy to start your auction at this price? Whats the point in starting at zero and bidding up your own items, it won't get you anywhere. If you look at all my bidding i put in my max price at the start (i do this most of the time i'm buying anything). The reason i do this is to stop me getting carried away with the price. I set a price ill pay and walk away, if i win happy days, if i lose it won't be the end of the world. I have done this all my life buying art. I used to go to auctions when i was a young man and learned the hard way by paying way over the odds for art/collectibles. If i'm buying something on invaluable/liveauctioneers etc, i will leave my max bid to stop me bidding more than i want to, and let the house bid for me.

Please.... let's try to settle this..... you have always come across as a sensible guy. I just need to know if it's me being a complete tosser and getting it badly wrong, or if it looks odd to You too
Please do me a favour. Just spend a minute looking at the 2 auctions listed on my first post
They are 2 auctions by the same seller 3 months apart and have the same 2 bidders with 1 feedback. the bidders are 1***k and 5***1
This is what my question is about . . they look to me like they are pushing the prices up on both auctions.
I'll understand if you don't want to get into this, in which case, move on and enjoy your day and thanks for your time

I agree with you, and honestly i feel like a right wanker for even starting this thread, i wouldn't normally and in the 10 years i have been here I can't believe i am where i am with this. I think I was baited, but might have been in a shit mood or something, i'll have to have a read back
He has some good points about finding something else to do with myself apart from doing things like this, so I have taken that on board

It's a fairly usual bidding pattern... BUT... either the 1 feedback user is naive, stupidly raising the price they have to pay themselves (Very possible)... Please.... let's try to settle this..... you have always come across as a sensible guy. I just need to know if it's me being a complete tosser and getting it badly wrong, or if it looks odd to You too Please do me a favour. Just spend a minute looking at the 2 auctions listed on my first post They are 2 auctions by the same seller 3 months apart and have the same 2 bidders with 1 feedback. the bidders are 1***k and 5***1 This is what my question is about . . they look to me like they are pushing the prices up on both auctions. I'll understand if you don't want to get into this, in which case, move on and enjoy your day and thanks for your time I cant believe he has made you question yourself ! It was 100% shilled. I'll understand if you don't want to get into this, in which case, move on and enjoy your day and thanks for your time It's extremely odd, I'll give you that. 2 newish users who bid on Box Sets from the same seller 3 months apart. On the other hand, there's other bidders on the lower auction, so no reason to have 2 accounts bidding against each other. Why would the seller do that themselves?
On both though 1***k has consistently bid in small increments, trying to see how far the other bidders have gone, but not go too far above. And gone to a lot of effort throughout, except at the end of the auction!!
Which leads me to believe 1***k is an idiot or a Shill Bidder.

Shill Bidding. Does this look right to You?, by irl1 on Mar 19, 2018 13:30:33 GMT 1, but then I dont think accusations are that useful unless proven so swings and roundabouts.... I agree with you, and honestly i feel like a right wanker for even starting this thread, i wouldn't normally and in the 10 years i have been here I can't believe i am where i am with this. I think I was baited, but might have been in as**t mood or something, i'll have to have a read back He has some good points about finding something else to do with myself apart from doing things like this, so I have taken that on board bren let me tell you something. I had said to you at the start not to fall into the trap with Pysgod. I also said you were a sound guy and i apologized to you for a comment. When i'm wrong i put my hands up. You and i know there are some very nasty people on here, but i see 99.99% of users here are sound. Yes i lost the run of myself here after my wife and children were verbally abused. There is not one man in the world who would let that go. I like you fell into the trap of answering the comments. The one thing that has come out of all this is, the abusive comments are rife on here, and it will never stop. I have seen so many people being attacked here for no reason other than users looking for their kicks. I know i made a t**t out of myself but i don't care as i highlighted the problem of abuse on here. No need to look back reading your or my comments, just look forward. I don't mind a joke, slagging or whatever, i'm a paddy and well used to the jokes. I for one won't be wasting time answering posts anymore as i'm sick trying to answer messages everyday. I don't hold any grudges with you so just lets put the past in the past. Best of luck

Shill Bidding. Does this look right to You?, by Deleted on Mar 19, 2018 15:34:10 GMT 1, These two bidders seem desperate to own a box set / WOH stuff, I wonder if they bid on anyone elses WOH goods that have been for sale and there has been plenty.
They are also desperately unlucky too as looks like they keep missing out in the auctions..

It could prove conclusive if anyone requires further proof and the two bidders could have been unlucky in more than two occassions.

Shill Bidding. Does this look right to You?, by saint on Mar 19, 2018 16:34:35 GMT 1, Well in my columbo guise, I decided to check this out....
Both these bidders (as well another one bidding on the lot Bren linked to in the first post on this thread) have, unfortunately, quite suspicious activity over the last 30 days, having bid only on 3 or 2 items, with over 90% of their bids with this particular seller.....
30-Day Summary Total bids: 25 Items bid on: 3 Bid activity (%) with this seller: 92% Help Bid retractions: 0 Bid retractions (6 months): 0
30-Day Summary Total bids: 24 Items bid on: 2 Bid activity (%) with this seller: 95% Help Bid retractions: 0 Bid retractions (6 months): 0
While I appreciate this might not mean anything, it does strike me as odd, if they really wanted a box set there are so many to bid on....
Anyway, I'm off, its too cold and I need to go sit by the fire and warm my old bones.
