Oli Epp ๐ฌ๐ง Post-Digital Pop โข New Painting โข Art For Sale, by galaxy01 on Aug 21, 2018 9:13:05 GMT 1, A CD sold on ebay last week. It was a studio proof though so a free gift someone sold. Oli was not best pleased to see it up so quick. Was up for auction but then got changed to 1.2k gbp buy it now, i was stupid enough to try and offer 1k and before i decided to just pay 1.2k it had gone. Took about 5 mins after listing to go. I would have personally bid up to 1.5k if it stayed as an auction but only because i want it bad to pair with my MT, I imagine others would have bid more. Average MT price has been 800gbp but there is a single 1k gbp sale which may just be an odd one. But as we approach his LA show in March it is only going to get harder to find any

I am not convinced that people paying those amounts at the moment for his prints - due to a lot of translucents sales, ebay is not a good indicator imo.
But Oli is a super talented artist and his prints are great, therefore I am sure we will see 2k in the future.

But Oli is a super talented artist and his prints are great, therefore I am sure we will see 2k in the future. I'd say the verdict's still on whether or not he's the next Banksy or Richter, regardless of how much talent he's shown so far. He has his own style, and it feels very relevant and contextual for today. He also seems like a really chill guy who appreciates the opportunities he's getting.
As for the prices the prints are fetching at secondary, I'm willing to believe that CD is swapping hands for >$2k. There haven't been many of these prints that have come up for sale, and there are enough people out there who can easily drop a few thousand on a print they really want. Especially if it's near impossible to get your hands on an original. I would imagine that anyone who's spending over $2k on a print from a relatively new artist is more than just a casual collector though - that's a mortgage payment for the average person.
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
*Gonefellow was fetching >$2k on his first print at secondary? Was this due to the Banksy speculation?

please, please, ever don't compare him to banksy or richter. why would you do that, honestly?
imho he will have a great career, regardless if this forum is hyping his prints or not. there are so many galleries globally trying to get a piece of him, so he will do very fine I reckon.

I do hope so, popped into his studio last week and was pleasantly surprised how enthusiastic he was for me to come down with the kids and how good he was in responding to my emails considering the deluge he is receiving. Really passionate about what he is doing, and more importantly enjoying himself. He is trying to keep his originals affordable and but the list of people wanting one is ridiculous at the moment. Talking to him about prints he wants to try and limit himself to two print releases a year

I've only exchanged a few messages with him via Instagram and he's been nothing but friendly and great. Nice that someone who's had such rapid success is both enjoying it and embracing those who like his work. Really like that he does so much to put a spotlight on other new artists too.

I will be exhibiting, with the other art scholar Livi Mills, a series of new paintings alongside test pieces and experiments.
As part of the scholarship I had frequent tutorials in my studio with industry professionals and I took masterclasses in screen-printing, video editing and sculpture.
All the works in this show are already accounted for and will not be available for sale.

Oli Epp ๐ฌ๐ง Post-Digital Pop โข New Painting โข Art For Sale, by Express Post on Sept 10, 2018 0:10:46 GMT 1, When people say that Oli is a great painter, all he does is use masking tape to create borders and slaps on one colour of paint inside. Dry and repeat. Then he will paint the realistic objects to create the narrative.
Has anyone seen his college works like still life drawings and portraiture which can give a little insight?
Currin, Condo and Gokita are examples of great painters. Freehand,no masking tape.
Martin, Kelly painted between the lines, no masking tape.
Maybe Riley did use tape, but I have to look over my photos again.

Whatโs your point? Those who use tape to create a line should be banned from the art world?

On some paintings on can still observe the hole left by the nail, where all perspective lines converge. Great example of that in the Van Gogh museum in Ams.
You cannot mix technique, skills and talent. How an artist expresses their ideas is talent,
Oli has in my opinion some talent because he uses a different creative approach, but I would agree, limited skills.
The Beatles used 4 chord songs, terrible musicians yet creative geniuses. Art. Love it or hate it.

What about his practice makes people rate him so much?
I have already listed some examples of other painters.
Now go do your honework.

Barry McGee uses tape... that's good enough for me lol Correct, McGee is McGee. Tape usage hasn't held him, his prices or status back !. It's another tool, a sticky stencil if you like... or masking fluid that isn't fluid.

Dumb ass! ๐ you have absolutely no idea what he does clearly. Have you been to his studio and watched him work? Discussed with him, in depth his methods. Itโs actually very clever art. Looks 2 dimensional online (clearly the only place youโve seen it) but has great depth in the flesh. Very strong social commentary and a great deal of thought goes into every piece.
Heโs also very knowledgable about art history and is a true student..
But hey you know best....
