Banksy โข Girl With Red Balloon Print, by Rouen Cathedral on Feb 8, 2016 3:25:08 GMT 1, If this is your view I hate to say you are in the wrong world. Art isn't for everyone. Yes some of banksys stuff is over hyped drivel with a lot better stuff from less known artists out there. But to say gwb is a 'fairy basic image' and not worth its place in the art world is foolish. You would pay 5 pounds for the simple image so I'm assuming you won't pay more then 10 for the 'more skillful & interesting' works you see all the time right? I know ... sometimes I feel like my mum, "I just don't get this modern art stuff" she'd say but then again, I do GET lots of art, just maybe don't GET the 'market'. (Sorry to the OP by the way, but if I thought my comments would in any way put off the buyers, I'd make them elsewhere, but I think we're in different worlds, so no probs?) Here's an image that, for me, says nothing ... a girl loses her heart to the breeze, thats not exactly original ... , that I could recreate in one hour or less (I know, I know, it'd just be a copy), that there are 750 exact same copies of, 150 of them signed, so not in any way unique. And, on secondary market, you are not even giving money to the artist so that they can create more art that you love. So, what's left? For me, the only value that I see in it is the investment value. If that is what art is to you, so be it. To me art should speak to my heart, expand my world, start conversation. If I buy a piece of art, of course I hope that it will retain its value, maybe get to be worth more, but really I hope that so I don't get accused of throwing the family's money down the drain, to justify myself to those that say we could have spent that money on a meal out, or a holiday, or on the car, or whatever. So, whether this is worth 15k, 20k, 60k or 80k in the art-market is of no consequence to me. Give me a cheapo WCP any day of the week (but please make it a Rude Copper not this one) I regret that the free & easy world of graffiti & street art has been dragged into this s**t ... remember when it was for fun? for kicks? exciting? when we spoke to each other in paint, not pounds? I go back to my original question (one that I think Banksy understands, given his New York park art stall the other year) ... if you saw this on a market stall, would you stop? If so, what would you expect to see it priced at?
Seems like someone is bitter they didn't think of doing this image years ago?
It's nothing huge that this mainly sells for a lot of money because it has the name Banksy on it? But hey same could be said about that portrait of a women who's creepy eyes follow me no? That's the art world deal!

Banksy โข Girl With Red Balloon Print, by Hubble Bubble on Feb 12, 2016 11:44:25 GMT 1, Surely not 2004?
There were a couple of red A/P's done in 2005 I think (and sold that year)
But the new ones would surely be the year they were signed and offered.
EDIT -- sorryโฆ I assume you're talking about the recent silver/gold?

A COA from Pest Control is a COA from Pest Control, no matter what date is on it. The COA's very presence is the thing that gives the piece legitimacy, not the date on it?

Banksy โข Girl With Red Balloon Print, by tab1 on Feb 12, 2016 13:31:58 GMT 1, Are artist proofs supposed to be produced at the same time as the regular edition run?
If produced 10 years after the original edition , is that not bad play ? Or even a few months after an edition has sold out.
All artists can extend editions if a print is popular by labelling as an ap?
If it was any other artist doing this , the discussion would be different .
Sometimes you buy at the time as the limited edition appeals

I think they were printed and available before and during the Dismaland show to VIP's only. Anyone please correct me if i'm wrong.

That is insane when you look at it that way. I remember when getting a Banksy print was a good old bun fight or via the lottery (which was the only time I was lucky) .At those prices and the fact it is all selected customers you start to look at Banksy in a whole different light.
Anyway sorry to detract from the thread.

Coach I have no doubt there was some extremely hi costs involved in the putting together and running of Dismaland and that has to be recouped somewhere.
Also I agree that there was an opportunity given to us all for a Banksy curated show for next to nothing how ever that isn't my point.
My point is with regards the release of work which now seems to be a closed shop. I stand to be corrected but the last readily made available work to the public was CYW which was over 5 years ago. Evidently the business model has changed.

I like to think of it as a transference of wealth. If, in these times of widespread hardship,ย some people are willing to spend ยฃ35,000 on a piece of paper to decorate their hallway with, then they probably shouldn't be in charge of that kind of money. Best that someone else has it.
And it is insane. But that's art. And life. And life is art. Or something like that.

That is insane when you look at it that way. I remember when getting a Banksy print was a good old bun fight or via the lottery (which was the only time I was lucky) .At those prices and the fact it is all selected customers you start to look at Banksy in a whole different light.
Anyway sorry to detract from the thread.
