Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by Deleted on Feb 13, 2016 8:50:58 GMT 1, A number of Banksy projects cost significant cash. You think Cans came cheap also? That money was fronted by him for ALL of the artists. I suspect they didn't sleep in the YMCA either. This is a another way for POW to fund large projects. The GWB are interesting. Back in the day the screens that were ran were incredible. Random one offs. Double sided prints. Hand finished Queen Vics. I have personally seen some crackers. All with COA. All purchased many moons ago for a monkey. I say fair play to POW. People still continue to make significant monetary gains from selling the more recent APs. So even 35k (if you have it) is often below market value. With the BANKSY market there is always someone looking to add something to their collection and pay significantly more that doesn't have access via Primary for whatever reason. Dumbo for example is now even a smaller run I believe that originally thought. Though I am not 100% on that one.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by motor on Feb 13, 2016 11:03:04 GMT 1, They can do whatever they want. Absolutely agree that the projects cost HUGE amount of money and I will always support that. I don't care about releasing the new stuff to the chosen few or gifting it to the personnel involved when working on the projects around the world. Fair play and well done. However I feel these APs of old images is not such a good idea. Quite murky waters these being offered so long after the original release and in such a high numbers too. Then out of the blue there are other gems popping up in weird numbers (TM gold/red ed 44, colour Festival ed 17, CYW fluorescent ed 25, Grannies hand sprayed ed 11, Rats and so on). Keeping it all hush, hush doesn't help. I think Banksy and POW could do better there.

A lot of people are probably unaware of that,so potentially there could be many more secret releases. The only reason now to delay a coa is so not to effect the market , as they were sold at a premium so would not matter selling them the previous gifted prints were free. The price they were set out was lower than market value but would there be that many high end collectors that would buy 88 prints at the top market value ? The selling point still was the investment
Could re release the original prints like Sunday b editions with different coloured stamps to indicate a re run for everyone to have a chance to purchase Which seems similar to the new round of vip prints
Anyone have any pics of new prints?

I've mentioned it on numerous occasions on the forum before but it would be great if Banksy and POW could publish a catalogue raisonné of all his works to date.

Would have a negative effect on auction house prices , plus there could be quite a lot more than generally thought!

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by vernaxley on Feb 16, 2016 12:26:42 GMT 1, You might. Or, you might think that Dismalland was a lot of fun for an awful lot of us, for next to nothing.
Coach I have no doubt there was some extremely hi costs involved in the putting together and running of Dismaland and that has to be recouped somewhere.
Also I agree that there was an opportunity given to us all for a Banksy curated show for next to nothing how ever that isn't my point.
My point is with regards the release of work which now seems to be a closed shop. I stand to be corrected but the last readily made available work to the public was CYW which was over 5 years ago. Evidently the business model has changed.
POW have not really had a business model since they and Banksy parted ways with Laz, which is why everyone else apart from the artist himself will make money from Banksy. It's not how Banksy operates because making money him miserable - ask Damien Hirst (who con-incidentally co-funded Dismaland) who invites Banksy to his Thai holiday home every year only to have to listen to him being uncomfortable about his worth.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by Dice on Feb 16, 2016 23:27:35 GMT 1, As an aside there are always interesting banksy prints and originals listed on artnet, check out the FLower thrower white background screen print on paper!

A catalogue raisonee would be close to impossible I guess with all the bits and bobs that seem to have been produced in the early days...
There are quite a few festival AP's floating around with a new signature which makes no sense unless they are recently produced. I suppose they could have been sat on for years and just signed recently though. Not sure which 'official' date they're using...

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by met on Feb 17, 2016 2:43:14 GMT 1, I have just found out the coa's are dated 2004 Laughable really. I know when they were purchased but why date them 2004? Makes no sense (IMO)! I'm not sure why you're making an issue here.
One would expect artist's proofs to be attributed to the year they were physically created — as opposed to a different year corresponding to when they were signed or sold.
Do you have irrefutable evidence these works were printed at a time other than the year cited on the COAs? If so, then I understand your point and would agree with you that this was wrong.
But only the artist's inner circle is likely to have access to such information. And any assumption that the A/Ps were printed in 2014 or 2015 (simply because this is when they first came to light and were released for private sale) would in my view be very unwise, especially when it comes to all things Banksy-related.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by met on Feb 17, 2016 3:42:00 GMT 1, I know ... sometimes I feel like my mum, "I just don't get this modern art stuff" she'd say but then again, I do GET lots of art, just maybe don't GET the 'market'. (Sorry to the OP by the way, but if I thought my comments would in any way put off the buyers, I'd make them elsewhere, but I think we're in different worlds, so no probs?) Here's an image that, for me, says nothing ... a girl loses her heart to the breeze, thats not exactly original ... , that I could recreate in one hour or less (I know, I know, it'd just be a copy), that there are 750 exact same copies of, 150 of them signed, so not in any way unique. And, on secondary market, you are not even giving money to the artist so that they can create more art that you love. So, what's left? For me, the only value that I see in it is the investment value. If that is what art is to you, so be it. To me art should speak to my heart, expand my world, start conversation. If I buy a piece of art, of course I hope that it will retain its value, maybe get to be worth more, but really I hope that so I don't get accused of throwing the family's money down the drain, to justify myself to those that say we could have spent that money on a meal out, or a holiday, or on the car, or whatever. So, whether this is worth 15k, 20k, 60k or 80k in the art-market is of no consequence to me. Give me a cheapo WCP any day of the week (but please make it a Rude Copper not this one) I regret that the free & easy world of graffiti & street art has been dragged into this s**t ... remember when it was for fun? for kicks? exciting? when we spoke to each other in paint, not pounds? I go back to my original question (one that I think Banksy understands, given his New York park art stall the other year) ... if you saw this on a market stall, would you stop? If so, what would you expect to see it priced at? Seems like someone is bitter they didn't think of doing this image years ago? It's nothing huge that this mainly sells for a lot of money because it has the name Banksy on it? But hey same could be said about that portrait of a women who's creepy eyes follow me no? That's the art world deal! This is an oddly aggressive and personal response to kashi's opinions about an art image.
We all have different techniques and outlets for releasing tension during moments of unhappiness or frustration in our lives. Yours may not be the most pleasant to witness, but I acknowledge that venting online is preferable to going home and kicking the dog.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by Ruggs on Feb 17, 2016 9:50:54 GMT 1, As an aside there are always interesting banksy prints and originals listed on artnet, check out the FLower thrower white background screen print on paper! www.artnet.com/search/artworks/?q=BanksyA catalogue raisonee would be close to impossible I guess with all the bits and bobs that seem to have been produced in the early days... There are quite a few festival AP's floating around with a new signature which makes no sense unless they are recently produced. I suppose they could have been sat on for years and just signed recently though. Not sure which 'official' date they're using... A catalogue raisonné wouldn't be impossible in my view. POW/Banksy should and would have catalogued absolutely everything that he has ever published. They would still have a small number of old prints and originals archived away somewhere. I imagine that would also include these GWB A/P's that have recently come to light. They (POW) probably have other prints including the remaining unsold LA set series, Gorilla and an assortment of other rare A/P's that have never seen the light of day.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by tab1 on Feb 17, 2016 10:28:59 GMT 1, I know when they were purchased but why date them 2004? Makes no sense (IMO)! Probably to avoid backlash over hammering out extra AP's
With 88 of them stashed away supposedly since 2004 suprised they did not come up for sale earlier ? Or even a few when the signed prints jumped up in price in 2013.
Quite a few rarities on art net
