I believe their commission was 25% plus 4% artist resale rights plus VAT on the commission only, not the hammer.  This is pretty standard for all auction houses give or take, so the buyer has to factor this in when they are buying.  So, any buyer worth their salt will back calculate and know their ceiling.  For instance... if I have approximately £85k with which I'm prepared to purchase a GWRB, I know that I won't be able to bid above £69k hammer.  Same with all the pieces.

There's no reason to think a 'bigger' auction house would produce better results.  This was a well advertised sale and the chance of getting two competing buyers together was as good at this sale as any that Christie's or Bonhams might have achieved IMHO.  

It seems it was about the right price for the piece given all that's been said.  Debate can rage over whether it's a sensible price, but it's the price that someone's paid, nonetheless.

Do you think so? If I had large amounts of cash to invest in art, I would definitely prefer to buy from a large auction house, rather than a relatively unknown auction house, I would feel safer.

£20 done, if in the next 6 months. This auction was a strong as a Russian shot putter soaked in strong fluid.

Its gone up £38k in his valuation if the right auction house is selected, fckin Brexit has more than just the weak pound to answer for !

If so, sell up while you can. You can buy your prints back for a fraction of the price when they've finished.
