Damien Hirst, Veils H4, by lg2771 on Jun 26, 2018 15:29:52 GMT 1, To the members who have posted that this is sold out, can I ask where you heard this. Serpentine? Heni? Elsewhere? Thanks.
It’s not sold out. They just don’t want others to attempt to get it. Although I’m sure a lot of people have emailed Tanya so it’s probably very close to being sold out.

Damien Hirst, Veils H4, by moron on Jun 26, 2018 16:35:55 GMT 1, Some people on this thread are hyping up Hirstys latest prints in order to make money on the secondary market.
Others are honest and when they say not for me they mean it.
The people queuing for the viewing in LA were also queing to view other artists work and also to view other celebrities at the show.
Anway compare these latest fantastic Hirst paintings with the paintings by the aboriginal artists.

It's splotching paint dots on a canvas, not exactly the most groundbreaking innovative techniques out there, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone on the other side of the world also thought of splotching paint dots as well. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a stolen idea either.

It is possible to like these prints for what they are, not to make a profit, but to hang and enjoy. Not everyone hoping to buy one has hyped them.

I agree lots of artists have done splotches plus with todays mass saturation of imagery online and in the art world it's possible that it could be subliminal memory recalled a few years later by Hirst.
It's also true that impressionists used splotches and even artists like Maurice Denis in his early oil sketches have a similar feel in parts as well as early Dali and Matisse. As far as I know technique cannot be copyrighted.
The point I was hoping to make is what makes these prints worth the money and the paintings worth so great. If one removes the name Hirst from them?

You could say the same thing for a million different artists.

That can be said of very many artists and paintings. Interesting that in other fields such as music, musicians with celebrity status and a history of success, can't rely on that same brand name to pump out and sell new works. It's still judged on whether the music is good or not.
