Koons, Hirst and Brainwash are doing the same thing. It's the old story about selling and marketing a product rather than the product itself. Saatchi was good at it and so are others, hisrt follows saatchi and the art worl revolves around this stuff.
People buy into it being great art because the publicity tells them it is great art and because many people dont wan't to left out they join the herd that gets fleeced.
The billionaire and mega rich usually new rich which buy big flashy art sculptures to put in their tax deductable collections often are pretentious full of themselves and love big flashy pieces that look like they are movie props from some Chinese kung pow movie.
There is nothing fresh or original about Hirsts latest output.
He made his name by gimmicks funded and promoted by Saatchi. He stole because he had no originality and went for the flashy stuff to appeal to flashy people. he is still stealing and putting his brand name on it as in ripping off Benin bronze sculpture.
Nearly all of his art has been made by some production team or assistants. After all it is all about the ideas and concept isn't it. So he steals from others and gets it mad eby others.
His last lot of paintings got panned by all the art critics, as in cheesy Bacon amatuerish.
This last lot of paintings have been done by better artists for valid reasons.
If an unknown had done these stupidly named set of dotty splodgy paintings, no one would be remotely interested.
Hirst has lost his confidence in himself as an artist hence playing safe and painting these splodgies because after all it is virtually impossible to fuck up splodging paint all over a canvas and with the right marketing and oh so pseudo faux de luxe names the Hirstinistas will queue up to buy them because after all mega rich billionaires tax dodgers buy the big flashy Hirst statues etc. Look ma, we made it, I own a Hirst (print on tin)
I am looking forward to Hirsts next release, probably in his pink underpants which will be available in an unlimited edition.

With respect, I don’t agree with much of this. Many collectors on here have said that they are buying, or are trying to buy one of these editions. It is condescending and rather arrogant to say that they are only doing so because of the marketing and publicity. I’m sure that many on here are able to decide for themselves whether the artwork is something they like, appreciate, wish to hang in their homes etc.

Of course who the artist is is relevant to any decision to buy a piece of art. An unknown artist may create something that is beautiful, but can not command the same price tag. My issue with moron’s post is that he assumes to know the motives of others, or assumes that he knows better than they why they are purchasing the artwork.

Fair enough Coach so what makes one worth more than the other?
I disagree that who the artist is is relevant to "any" decision to buy a piece of art.

Damien Hirst H4 • Veils, by moron on Aug 14, 2018 0:46:20 GMT 1, My view on Hirst is he has done it to himself when he publicly stated that he has stolen from others and said fuck them. So now everything he does it's normal the critics and others will judge him by that.
Everyone knows when they see a spot painting say Hirst but have they heard of other artists who did spot paintings decades before? Hirst has hijacked that type of visual art branded it as Hirst. same goes for these veil paintings, when people go to Australia and see paintings by indiginous artists they will think Hirst.

Same goes for the African Yoruba bronzes when people see those they will think Hirst. There is a fine line between being inspired by African and other art as was Picasso who made everything with his own hands and others and just blatantly copying the form and look and branding ones name on it and paying others to produce huge reproductions which are publicised in the media as Hirst creations.
Artists are inspired by other artists influenced by styles too. That's normal but it's downright lazy when someone just blatantly copies and re sells it under their own brand and it is heavily promoted by the media as the property of that brand.
I agree with everything in this article below.

So easy to bash artists. Is there anyone that deserves your support? Anyone??? Do you actually know the difference between critique and bashing?

Bye bye you.

Hirst has lost his confidence in himself as an artist hence playing safe and painting these splodgies because after all it is virtually impossible to f**kup splodging paint all over a canvas and with the right marketing and oh so pseudo faux de luxe names the Hirstinistas will queue up to buy them because after all mega rich billionaires tax dodgers buy the big flashy Hirst statues etc. Look ma, we made it, I own a Hirst (print on tin) I am looking forward to Hirsts next release, probably in his pink underpants which will be available in an unlimited edition. I can't believe I'm typing this, but I actually agree with much of this. Having said that, please stop now...Pretty please. Ps. the veil paintings are good.

If Tracey Emin's drawings were done by an unknown housewife and sold at a local craft fair, she wouldn't get five pounds for them.

If you didn't buy one then you think you dodged a bullet - good for you.
If you bought to flip then good for you there is profit in there (TBC the amount) for sure.
Obtuse metaphysical conversations around what is art are great but can't and should not dilute the pieces being bought at the moment. 👌

The hero we deserve but not the one we need.
