Banksy Bomb Middle England Print โข 2003 , by RBK on Jun 28, 2007 17:21:38 GMT 1, You can't really compare prices from a live auction-house auction to Ebay. That is like saying I can't believe X was more expensive in a Gallery than Ebay.
Plus people get heated in the moment and bid out of competition. Much different when you are in a room of other bidders versus sitting in front of your cpu.

as i havent been to many live auctions, do you mean people will pay more in the heat of the moment AT the auction or in front of their PCs. I assume you mean tha former as that makes sense to me.

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print โข 2003 , by jam on Jun 28, 2007 17:39:07 GMT 1, You need to be very wary of these ebay live auctions. I have watched & participated in quite a few of them over the past couple years and I am certain there were some where I would see an internet bid placed, then immediately get outbid buy a "floor bidder" and go back and fourth until the ebay bidder won. Looks fine, except a few of those were my bids and the items always seemed to go for a hair under my proxy. Then you watch some lots and if there isn't an internet bid, no-one on the flood bids! I stopped trusting ebay live, as I think some of those "live auctions" are a sham. It would be interesting to see if anyone actually went to the live sale.

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print โข 2003 , by pw on Jun 28, 2007 17:45:48 GMT 1, as far as I'm concerned the only difference between buying from these guys and buying from ebay is that you can see the item before you bid. and that could be arranged for ebay items also in some cases. that apart, when you buy a print the only other thing to be concerned with is provenance and I bet that the provenance you get from these guys is no better than that which you could get from a reliable ebay seller.

Good point mcnuts I guess people can also lose their control in front of a cpu too. Personally I think that in an actual live-auction setting with other humans in the room the tendency is greater.

on their website they charge a 15 (or was it 19%) commision of the sale price plus the final price has vat and the rest on top. I'm no good at maths but it would be interesting to compare the two, to see who would come out on top.

The ยฃ1300 was the price someone worked out after VAT and sellers fee's, minus another 20% still leaves ยฃ1040 (25% more than ebay before fees!)

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print โข 2003 , by mcnuts on Jun 28, 2007 19:23:06 GMT 1, people, people, people - the ยฃ1300 is the price without all of the fees (1638 with.) you take 1300, subtract say 15% - ยฃ195 and you're left with ยฃ1105 which is what you pocket in this case. If it was 19% commission you'd still get ยฃ1053 I believe, which ain't bad for a love rat!
ahh ha that make sense. On top of that, selling your banksy via auction you dont get the flack from the forum as it isn't linked to your ebay id [ if you folks are as thick as me and have a similar ebay name ] Regardless, I'm holding on to mine for the moment!

Banksy Bomb Middle England Print โข 2003 , by Pattycakes on Jun 29, 2007 8:26:54 GMT 1, I agree massive prices, but then you have to presume that they are selling the pictures to people who are used to buying art at auction like Warhols etc... people like that are not going to go shopping on the bay now are they? Still crazy prices, but then for each lot sold there were quite a few people chasing them.
