D*Face show Seattle, by froncz on Aug 1, 2018 17:13:53 GMT 1, I didn't try for the Paris one (it was OK-ish IMO but not good enough to justify a purchase) and won't try for this abomination of a print. It's just horrible. Any image of the three posted on the previous page would be great. Bummer - I've been waiting for a D*Face release that would appeal to me for quite a while. Oh, well.

D*Face show Seattle, by nobokov on Aug 1, 2018 17:32:11 GMT 1, The gallery confirmed that this is the print... being released in person and online. Not sure if there is something else being released as well but I wouldn't count on it. I was hoping for something different as well (pricing is $525 + shipping). Thats an easy pass at 525....
Seriously, he has lots of better images, why does he not just put out an appealing one.
My top 3 below right now would be...
Your favorites would makr for a nice Eine or RETNA collab

D*Face show Seattle, by hungry on Aug 3, 2018 5:10:22 GMT 1, Went to the show tonight when it opened, some nice pieces there. The print is actually a lot better in person, admittedly. I thought it was a terrible choice for a print based off the flyer, but it actually translates well to print form. Picked one up for a friend, but almost got one for myself. Don't think it'll sell out at the show considering the size of the crowd wasn't crazy, but who knows! Will post some pics of the show from the crappy phone later.

Agree with Hungry, The print was nicer than in person, (still couldn't unsee the cats arse!). Like Hungry picked one up for a friend, but not for me.
Here are a few snaps from the show.......

Not really into wording in a brands font, reminds me of the 'adihash' tees in the 90s.

D*Face show Seattle, by Howard Johnson on Aug 3, 2018 20:09:32 GMT 1, Guess I'm in the minority as I really like the print image. It's new from a composition perspective and Doesn't place so much emphasis on the zombie/death aspect, which, like those images posted above, has been done far far to much (yes I realize it's still a zombie dude, but that's the the emphasis). Size is massive as well! May be one of his biggest multiples.
I guess it's just refreshing to have a feel-good image as opposed to a revolting one. Price is fair considering his aftermarket and it's bigger and better then the blink one or milkshake one released in LA. I'd give it a 7/10.

Agreed, didn't realize how big the margins were! Plus, it seems silly to have such a odd size, 27.75x39.5, with those borders. Cut it down to 27x39 or 24x36 and save us some money on the damn framing!!

Why would the guy do anything differently. He has a formula that works.
Still a big fan despite not liking everything he does.

D*Face show Seattle, by kwatis on Aug 4, 2018 3:11:41 GMT 1, As for the discussion regarding the weird final paper size, it's more thwn likely that they used paper that was 30x40", printing the registration just inside of those dimensions. Unfortunately it was a total missed opportunity. If they could print registration just inside the paper dimensions and outside of the final product dimensions, then the massive border was an actual choice. Hope this makes since. Usually the final print size is determined by a couple of factors, like the paper size, finishing (torn/deckle versus cut edge) and the printing limitations (screen size, exposure restraints, print table restraints, etc). So it baffles me that they could print reggies outside of the final print size but, for whatever, reason kept the massive border instead of printing the image larger.
Can't get my head around it.

D*Face show Seattle, by met on Aug 4, 2018 12:44:26 GMT 1, Is there anyone out there doing something similar to Lichtenstein without the death and blood and gore? I don't see anything positive when I look at this work, but I've always been a fan of the style.
Possible answers depend on what is it about Lichtenstein that appeals to you.
Is it specific subject matters or themes he dealt with that resonate, like ordinary household objects, domestic interiors, or kitschy wartime- or romance-melodrama?
Alternatively, could it be more about the general look of Lichtenstein's paintings — i.e. replicating or alluding to comic book imagery, with thick outlines, Ben-Day dots, speech or thought bubbles, and onomatopoeias?
__________
1. If you're drawn to objects and interiors, check out the minimalist and illustrative styles of Patrick Caulfield and Michael Craig-Martin.
2. To a lesser extent, there's also Gary Hume, who blurs portraiture, figuration and abstraction.
3. Especially for his cartoonish three-dimensional work, see Bill Barminski. Some pieces (including clothing) produced by Philip Colbert might interest you as well.
4. If you're keen on 1950s retro, comic book-style characters combined with references to consumerist culture and malaise, look into Ben Frost.
5. For portraiture with a flat and washed-out appearance, see Alex Katz. I initially dismissed his paintings and prints, but grew to adore many of them over time. What was once terribly dull to me, now feels reassuring (even noble) in its restraint and understated confidence.
6. While I dislike most of what he produced, you might appreciate some of the still-life and portraiture by Tom Wesselmann — especially his line drawings from the 1980s onwards.
7. Although it's generally seen as a bit cheesy now, there's been somewhat of a renewed interest lately in Patrick Nagel ("Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand").
It's also worth checking out fashion illustration more broadly. If you search hard enough, you'll find plenty of highly-talented individuals, including those who are still studying at art school.
[Personally, I view the output of Sandra Chevrier as mediocre fashion illustration, at best. Her style would have looked dated even in the 1980s.]
8. Finally, a less-than-revolutionary idea: If you enjoy the aesthetic of Roy Lichtenstein, consider acquiring affordable works by Lichtenstein himself (e.g. official limited-edition prints), rather than by later artists he may have influenced.
__________
As an aside, your forum username always triggers the pedant in me. I assume the typo is deliberate?
