It was a Fox , for Brian May (Queen) who is an ambassador of a fox sanctuary.

Wee stick dudes! I'm not knocking it, it's ok I guess if that's what your into then great. Just curious if he ever does anything else. I recommend buying his book 'STIK' century/penguin published in 2015 to see lots of work that he has done all over the world. Yes his ting is wee stick dudes although some are far from wee ...they're enormous and take a heck of a lot logistics to execute. Not so many years ago while he was homeless in Hackney he would occasionally pass the nights on the streets painting wee stik dudes where he slept and they became a bit of thing and nobody knew where the wee dudes were coming from. As he became more well known he has more or less dedicated his art to raising money for mental health and homeless charities, which is why I strongly disagree that his market is being manipulated. He has many well known and influential buyers due to the work he does for charity. Karma innit Stik dudes ....great description.

STIK WINS BIG @ CHRISTIES, by Fะฏ on Sept 20, 2018 23:36:46 GMT 1, People used to say, people are not paying ยฃ2000 for a print. Wait for a real auction house result. Several results later at Bonhams and Christies... No ones paying ยฃ14,000 for a print. But you would pay ยฃ2000 for it now then i am guessing. People didn't pay it because it's stick man for f**ks sake !!
Damien hirst paints dots. He does not even paint them. He lives in a castle.
This argument is just not valid.
Mondrian painted lines and filled them with colour. He was likely the stik of his day. โAll that monny does is paint lines and colour, that is not art. Here look at this watercolour in a s**tty gold ornate frame like anyone could do, isnโt it wonderful dorrisโ Rardy rah rah rah.
No forums back then, just pigeons - It took ages to tell others your irrelevant thought or brain farts about art.

STIK WINS BIG @ CHRISTIES, by Coach on Sept 21, 2018 1:07:57 GMT 1, I met Stik a few years ago at UPfest, he was kind enough to stop and draws two portraits of my kids. On another occasion, a kind forum member who is based in the states was working with STIK on a show, and ask Stik if he would draw a figure playing football for my youngest daughter, and he was more than happy to oblige. And the forum member sent it to me for free $60 postage too ( thanks again). And as already mentioned STIK had done a lot for charity and many different community. I still can't believe he regularly goes round his street painting repairing them and painting over any tags. I watched him a few times online, and he always seems a genuine good guy and is passionate about what he does.
Iโve met him a couple of times too. He was charming on both occasions. On the second he was kind enough to do a drawing of my son. I like his street work, especially the large scale pieces.

STIK WINS BIG @ CHRISTIES, by jimbofatz on Sept 21, 2018 2:34:17 GMT 1, This is undeniably a big win for Stik and a big win for a lot of people who post here. I think we are going to see some big numbers out of a lot of artists we have all casually traded/bantered on about on here in the very near future. Things will get interesting when certain trades in hindsight seem hilariously bad/one sided. But that's the fun of it all.
Anyone arguing that these particular auction prices aren't heavily manipulated is out of their mind *but all art auctions are and yes they are stick men but none of that matters. It's all about setting that price market and blowing estimates out of the water...

it's herd mentality.
People convince themselves to like and buy art that everybody else wants, even if it's not great. (not talking about STIK)
Full credit to Banksy and his message in his MORONS print!

STIK WINS BIG @ CHRISTIES, by Winter on Sept 21, 2018 10:03:40 GMT 1, I've heard at least 5 occasions where he has committed to commissions and has failed to deliver on any of them. It could also be that this sale was for charity and a few generous souls went bigger because of the good cause!?
Either way, it's an interesting result!!

No different to the milkman or whatever he was, that Lowry gave piles of his work to, he binned it as he thought it was rubbish, or didnt/wouldnt/couldnt see it.
I dare say Harring also had to listen to this crap, but look how that has worked out. And dont even let me get started with what Basquiat must have endured over his time!

STIK WINS BIG @ CHRISTIES, by kuni on Sept 21, 2018 23:12:45 GMT 1, I'm a neophyte when it comes to critiquing art. That said, my initial response to Stik's work was to brush it off as basic and unskilled. It's a friggin' stick figure, how hard can it be? After a while though it's grown on me, he has a way of perfectly capturing the emotion of his characters in the fewest lines possible. Somehow he nails the intended emotion for each of his pieces. I've totally come around on it and after learning about his backstory it's even more compelling.

Nicely said, and like most things you need look beyond the surface to understand its true meaning.

Great comments above and I really don't understand all the negative comments aimed at Stik
I have been lucky enough to meet him and he was fantastic, he took the time to ask me questions and was very, very genuine.
To me his art is amazing and you know its a Stik piece immediately. If you look at the eyes/emotions you can see what trying he to capture and portray. If I am correct he gifted the piece that sold for 120K and proceeds went to the cardboard citizens (minus fees). I am not sure of any other artists who have given so much back to various charities but please correct me
His backstory is one to be admired and I can only imagine what he has gone through as I have never been homeless or had to couch surf Full support to any new artists that have made it whether I like the art or not
I'm a neophyte when it comes to critiquing art. Great comments above and I really don't understand all the negative comments aimed at Stik I have been lucky enough to meet him and he was fantastic, he took the time to ask me questions and was very, very genuine. To me his art is amazing and you know its a Stik piece immediately. If you look at the eyes/emotions you can see what trying he to capture and portray. If I am correct he gifted the piece that sold for 120K and proceeds went to the cardboard citizens (minus fees).
