I wondered that too. Perhaps Variant Edition.
I wonder whether this means that there are 20 in the edition, all different (most probably different colours)?
Iโve not seen a print numbered with the initials VE before.

V/E may well stand for Varied Edition in this case ...
... I was thinking of E/A which is, รฉpreuve d'artist- an artist's proof
... and the other term: H/C which is Hors d'Commerce. Prints from an edition intended to be used as samples to show to dealers and galleries...
