New BANKSY stall, by daveart on Nov 8, 2018 17:26:51 GMT 1, Exactly, just because I support the Palestinian people in this situation, doesnt mean I cheared at the Pittsburgh shooting. hate to pull everyone away from banging on about a free poster... but.. i'm just and average guy with average awareness of all of this and wanted to leave a comment.
Pick your word to start this sentence: (Some, many, most, all ) people that are adamant about removing the wall go on to further steps for what they want to have happen after the wall is down. And (some, many, most, all) people realize that if you remove the wall the next thing these people want is the (shrinking, attack, removal, elimination) of the Jewish state of Israel. So for this reason (some, many, most, all ) people think that talking about removing the wall is only a loss leader in a larger agenda that does not end well for many Jewish people.
Sadly that leads me to the point that I believe from my average interest from far away that (some, many, most, all) people wanting to remove the wall are actually using it as part of an agenda that they would rather not be up front about. On that level, i understand Wearology point and I am one of the people that am scratching my head about this and wondering .. is it really just the wall Mr B? ... or is there some larger agenda that you support?
Not enough information is given so its easy to brush past the direct interpretation about the wall and get into a deeper interpretation that is quite uncomfortable. I likely have all the Banksy i will ever own already so its not like his market will crash if i stop buying but I still wish he would just come out and state his full intention and agenda. His earlier works on the wall over the years have been kind of fun anti wall.. like what JR did.. this feels different.
Maybe this issues is similar to the situation in the USA of having a neighbor fly a confederate flag at their house. You want to believe when they tell you its just to indicate they are a proud Southerner.. but you also kind of begin to think he is actually a racist with an agenda as long as your arm and you then begin to reinterpret his other words and actions.
this got longer than intended.. so you can now get back to pixels, sizes, lines and flipping ..

Pick your word to complete this sentence - (Some, many, most, all) people that support the construction of the wall, choose to (ignore, disregard, forget, agree with) the fact that many people were displaced from their homes to accommodate the further expansion of Israel. (Some, many, most, all) of those people realize that the longer the wall stays the longer the Palestinian (shrinking, attacks, removal, elimination) continues. So for that reason (some, many, most, all) of those people disagree with the removal of the wall as this would (slow, stop, reduce) the continued (land grab, stealing, occupation, invasion) of Palestinian land and property on a continued basis, that does not end well for the Palestinian people.
I think many of the people that support the removal of the wall, would support a return to the agreed 1967 borders after the six day war. All land gained/stolen/occupied after that is illegal under International Law.
I think calling anyone that disagrees with any segregation wall or illegal occupation of any part of the world a racist is wrong, disingenuous and has an agenda of their own.

New BANKSY stall, by Deleted on Nov 8, 2018 18:50:54 GMT 1, As others have also 'gone political' on this perhaps I will just add my own comments.
It's very easy to side with the Palestinians and voice the rather simplistic "tear down the wall" rhetoric but people have to stop and think why the wall was built in the first place.
Perhaps at this point I should remind people that the democratically elected Hamas, which speaks for the Palestinians, has declared one of it's aims is to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.
Now who is the good guys and the bad guys?

Too much blue pill. All that โthese peopleโ (as you call them) want is a normal life. You are either misinformed or dishonest. Iโll assume the former, and suggest you to check out some recent history books. Check who started the last intifada, check who wanted Hamas to become the dominant force, and who cordoned it in Gaza creating its own feud, check who made the two state solution harder by the day by pushing for more and more illegal settlements, check who used the above as an excuse for the illegal wall, and how it is used to further these objectives in a reinforcing spiral. If you are honest, youโll find the red pill.
And before you cry enemy of Israel or worse to me, a footnote: I come from a Jewish family, and as a child Iโve spent several of my holidays picking up fruits in a kibbutz - in a time in which peace was on the horizon. A time before the radical and racist right, literally lead by criminals with blood on their hands, took over power in Israel (via despicable means, including political assassination).

A world famous artist took a stab at this and people are going to respond. i assume this is what he wanted. the artist takes on a very complex issue with a very simplistic image i am simply giving an average guys response to the image and my thought on what i would think if i saw it in a friends house. if you have art on your wall that someone questions and you start yelling at them about being ignorant and needing to read long complicated books... i think you lost the field.
i am not telling anyone how to think.. i gave my 2cents on how i interpret this piece of art .. and i did at least a half assed job of backing that up. if you can say with a straight face - "i support all people living in harmony and want all people to live undivided and with full access to a full life" then by all means hang the art. if you get angry when the art is questioned - I think that tells you there may be is a bigger issue at play in your mind.
please feel free to agree or disagree with my 2cents but no need to be uncivil about it. it will not change anything at all and as i mentioned i am an average guy with average interest from a long way away.

Now who is the good guys and the bad guys? Hamas is a huge problem for the Palestinian people. Apparently Iran a country where it's own people are on the verge of starving in some places and where they have national strikes because people have not been paid, gave Hamas 100 million dollars in aid. Hamas is happy to send Palestinians protesting against Israel including people with babies and children while the leaders worth millions stay at home in their huge villas and do not send their ow children to protest. In one way Hamas government and it's actions benefits Israel to be heavy handed with the Palestinians. Israel has the military might and prepared to slaughter more Palestinian innocents and children to punish Hamas.
A solution is possible in theory when dealing with normal people.
As others have also 'gone political' on this perhaps I will just add my own comments. New BANKSY stall, by moron on Nov 10, 2018 21:50:16 GMT 1, I can understand artists's reticence. Supporting Palestine is considered hip and cool these days. But what if Banksy, for example, wanted to support Israel? I wonder if there would be quite the same support amongst fans and in the media. I don't see Banksy taking political sides. He is making a statement about the wall and segregation of people who have done nothing wrong apart from being born there and descended from people who lived there for hundreds or thousands of years. The Palestinian Christians are caught behind that wall and it's amazing the American right wing god spouting Christians who publicy shout they support Israel yet say nothing about their fellow Christians behind the wall. To me a lot of people who say they support Israel, seem to be right wing types making out they publicly support zionism, such as the fraudster Tommy Robinson in order to get money from pro zionist US based backers etc.

New BANKSY stall, by moron on Nov 10, 2018 22:05:12 GMT 1, I was pretty clear on my comment from the beginning. For how specific banksy is and has been in the wording of his art it bewilders me how so many on here just ignore it. It's quite shocking. So like one of my first posts said why does the Instagram post including 'free giveaways'? What does it add to the art? I've stated my opinion above I thought we were having a good discussion... People are never happy.
Banksy gives something away that he could easily sell online as posters and basically told people, look guys Walled Off Hotel will be at the travel trade expo so if you pop down to see us and pretend you work in travel. There will be some free stuff.
I don't think Banksy was touting his art in as much as just letting people know that the Walled Off stand will be at the expo.
I hope people who went had time to chat with Wissam and the people about the Walled Off. He comes across as the face of the Walled Off and one of the good guys.
The poster works perfect with the lettering in my view. It's what sets the image off. If I picked one up, it's the type of art I would keep and not sell. Simple reason is I like political art of all decades and this poster fits in with the best examples.

New BANKSY stall, by moron on Nov 10, 2018 22:12:14 GMT 1, No need. They just stated what they planned to do. The print distribution is part of the happening. And the lines and flippers etc make it all more surreal, and so by design. Tons of these prints will be flipped, polluting eBay, this forum, and the secondary auction sites, and people in the first world will make a buck out of it - out of something taken for free from the third world. As usual, Banksyโs metaphors are spot on. But thatโs not all. The flipping itself becomes a vehicle of political propaganda - the print is, explicitly and literately, a reminder and a denunciation of a state of occupation. Banksy letโs its work being exploited by the profit seekers, but it does so by design - he exploits the exploiters, since they become part of his political messaging machine. Since I know where u come from, and as much as I like JR, the difference is that JR is a good artist that has good intention - while Mr B instead, simply, is a genius. It's a gimmick. Why is banksy stooping to a gimmick such as giving free stuff away when the Walled Off is much more then a gimmick. It cheapens what he's done with the hotel. My concern with the Walled off was that it wouldn't last and it was a gimmick. So far that doesnt seem to be the case and I admitted that. But then why do a cheap stunt of announcing free stuff. It takes away for the meaning of the hotel. I don't get the play. Sure in some cases... Dismaland... Smaller works the gimmick is classic banksy. But here I don't see how it fits without contradicting the importance. It's not a gimmick though.
It's a huge travel expo advertising vacations and hotels etc globally.
Banksy turns up with a huge replica of the dividing wall and plonks it in the middle of the expo and says without speaking. Visit the walled off hotel it's in Palestine, you know the place with the fucking huge segregation wall.
A very smart move by Banksy.

New BANKSY stall, by moron on Nov 10, 2018 22:30:05 GMT 1, The following statement is me as a forum member - not as a Forum Guardian There are only 2 sides in this conflict - either you are Pro Palestinian or you are Pro Israel and Banksy has definitely taken sides and has demonstrated over the course of several years that he is Pro Palestine. In the long run, this will not be good for his career, as he has now isolated a large chuck of his collector base. I'm pro both although i'm not a fan of zionism and not a fan of islamism.
Israel is a country, it's not going anywhere and the Palestinians have a right to their own country or state. It seems a shame that a political solution cannot be found before another generation grows up hating each other.
It's true that there are very wealthy people out there who collect art that could look at Banksy in a negative way. (Rockefeller bought his phone booth.) Not being good for his career. iIs that the same as saying that very wealthy Jewish collectors investors have been responsible for Banksy prices rising and selling high at Sothebys etc? That these people can make his art lose value simply because some collectors decide to offload their Banksy or because some very influential collectors, whisper quietly in auction houses ears and other investors ears to avoid anything by Banksy. It can happen in theory, that is how things work. It's not done openly or publicly and mysterious things happen like people do not bid or buy a very expensive Banksy and also he receives less publicity etc.
It happened to Chuck Connelly because he said the wrong thing and he basically got black balled by galleries dealers and investors.
Which sort of proves the art world is a con and it's about who you are rather than any actual art.
It won't happen to Banksy because people who buy his art are smart enough to know he is not anti Israel. he is anti the wall and he is in Bethlehem, well away politically from supporting Hamas. He hasn't made any waves so to speak and his latest poster does make a statement about occupation by the Israeli army which is the same as saying there has been no peaceful solution to the situation.
The same way that artists and musicians boycotted Sin City in South Africa, musicians and artists have boycotted Israel and it did not affect their careers.
On the other hand wealthy art collectors dealers and auction houses and media and the art world are all connected so it only tales one to be vindictive and strange things start to happen and prices and sales go down.

He could have still posted he'd be there. I have no problem with him being there. It's actually a good concept.

Why do people need to know there's free stuff?
What does that add to the Walled Off?

I don't think the free posters were meant for flippers, rather people who want one as a souvenir to keep.
The print out is a good idea too and be great for past ups globally, for people against the wall.

New BANKSY stall, by daveart on Nov 14, 2018 17:02:23 GMT 1, quick. name another famous artist that has used a Swastika in a piece of art this year. And spare me the deeper meaning tirades as that wasnt the question. Despite whatever deeper meaning you can finagle out of your brain the fact of the image remains. Trump does this well.. embeds words and phrases and then backpedals to his actual self selected meaning by lets say wall papering over the more unsavory parts.. but those parts remain dont' they.
