Faile • Dog Prints, All Editions , by jlf on Jul 22, 2014 11:35:37 GMT 1, Private listing and framed rings a few alarm bells... That's a good point. I'm new to all this and never thought of that, will definitely consider that going forward.
What would you normally do on stuff like that, ask to see a photo of it out of the frame?

And a private listing often means they have somthing to hide possible shill bidding....

Faile • Dog Prints, All Editions , by jlf on Jul 22, 2014 11:48:09 GMT 1, So is the general rule if it's framed, probably give it a miss?
Also if you're selling stuff that has been framed properly is it still worth taking it out or do you just make sure that it's specified in the listing
again sorry about all the questions, I'm just new to art and interested in learn as much as I can

You have a bigger market if you unframed somthing as it can be shipped worldwide and there are no surprises for a buyer if you know the condition prior to bidding.
There are plent of horror story's on the forum about poor framing practices when people have brought framed prints. Lots of these prints were cheap back in the day and quality framing costs a lot of money.
Chances are the buyer won't like the frame anyway so usually better to buy and sell unframed.

Faile • Dog Prints, All Editions , by jusdeep on Jul 22, 2014 14:13:01 GMT 1, To be honest a print such as this, printed on very heavy stock - almost card would be hard to damage. Even having the possibility of tape marks etc from float mounting wouldn't put me off for something as hard to come by or desirable. It's only on the reverse and wouldn't be noticeable and most cases can be removed or repaired. It only takes a few words with the seller to find out how it's been framed, he/she seems to have another for sale also framed the same way so looks like they had the two framed the same way and more than likely to a high standard. That alone would suggest they know what they're doing and with the private listing, maybe they don't want everyone and their dog knowing their business. It doesn't look like it's been shill bidded either otherwise it would be going for crazy money by now. At the end of the day if it isn't as described after you have spoken with the seller you make a claim and get your money back. Some things, as hard to come by as this are worth taking a calculated risk.

Faile • Dog Prints, All Editions , by Deleted on Jul 22, 2014 14:16:10 GMT 1, As was said earlier one of the more desirable pink Faile dog #2's just ended on eBay US for just over £1k. Did have a little tape damage to the back but was a good price. Not sure why private listing and framed would ring alarm bells. Framing can hide many issues, drymounting, dogears, damaged edges, the print may have been trimmed, all reduce the value and ive seen them all first hand, now as a rule i dont buy anything until its been taken out of the frame, i agree the sale on the basis that once its removed alls well. You cant trust someones word alone, ive bought pieces off galleries framed and described as conservation framing and mint recently, one had been trimmed, the other had been stuck down, both were banksys, best to be safe.

Faile • Dog Prints, All Editions , by jusdeep on Jul 22, 2014 14:42:50 GMT 1, Of course, my point was if there is an issue or any doubt ask the seller before buying on eBay. If the seller is genuine and up front they will not hold any information back if not and alarm bells are ringing or the deal is too good to be true then steer clear. If it's a private sale and the seller is accommodating then paying after everything checks out is always an option, although probably not possible in the majority of sales and possibly only with high value prints. If paying by Paypal and it's not as described take it up with the seller or in a worse case scenario you get your money back through a dispute.

Faile • Dog Prints, All Editions , by dwight on Jul 23, 2014 3:38:58 GMT 1, I bought the Faile Dog II that you guys are talking about ($1775usd). The damage he is talking about is so minimal you wouldn't notice unless specifically noted. Most sellers wouldn't have even mentioned it and the buyer wouldn't have known the difference. The paper is thick and there is so much ink and whatever else they use to stain these that you can't see unless you look very closely.

With print this size there is no excuse not to use tru vue optical or museum glass to really show that dogs beauty off. I am currently saving to afford museum glass for my Savage World but being some what larger makes it very costly indeed plus down here it is a lot more expensive than what you lucky bastards pay..

Faile • Dog Prints, All Editions , by jusdeep on Jul 26, 2014 6:39:41 GMT 1, Maybe it is, but Faile only released part of the 100 Shimmering Red Dogs. A few years ago you could have picked one up for under £500, now you'd be lucky to find one. You certainly don't see them come up all that often. Imo they're iconic from that era and the dog in particular is synonymous with Faile. I certainly wished I'd picked one up earlier on, but probably like most was hoping Faile would eventually get around to releasing the rest of the edition.

Keep looking 4/5 dogs have come up In the last few weeks not all red but all lovely. I went after them all and got the eBay one. I don't think your offer is the problem you just have to move fast. £1.3 or less will get you one.
I searched eBay worldwide for weeks before one came up. Agreed they are the classic Faile, don't give up you will get one.

That's very interesting, I did not know that the entire edition was never issued. That really makes a lot of sense, because I had always wondered why the red ones don't come up for sale more often. I also agree that these are iconic and synonymous with Faile and the urban art movement. I think that the image is a classic example of image repetition and a quality and iconic Faile image.
