From the start. They have shown how political systems that portray themselves as equitable and democratic may be in fact captured by special interests and lobbies. Many years before the low-middle class begun its drift towards populist parties in protest to stagnant real wages, lack of upward mobility, and rising inequality, street artists were visually shouting at us to wake up and smell the coffee.
The real applied art was in the streets in the last 20 years. And it will remain there. Undeflected by the toys, the pop tripe, and the undergraduate imitation of iconic imagery, political street artists typically stay genuine. The best remain aggressive and definitely real. Just look at Blu.
Shep or even Banksy rightly belong there as well. They just operate at a broader scale and face different constraints. They maintain a core of ideas and a code of conduct. Not even your best political representatives do that.

Agreed - very little if any thing touches him. The dissent in the street art world is worryingly minimal - perhaps theyโre all making too much cash?
