I think the quality of their prints is often lacking, although I bought several early Dabs Myla from them which were ok, and the fact they hold archive sales at v inflated prices is part of the issue.

Anyway, here is a gallery local to me in a very high rent retail setting where Brainwash is a flagship artist. It boggles my mind:
"Mr. Hartman began collecting art at the age of twenty, and after a successful career as an investment advisor and Vice-President of UBS / PaineWebber, he opened Contessa Gallery to fulfill his passion of becoming a fine art dealer. Mr. Hartman is the President of the Board of Directors for the Fine Art Dealers Association (FADA), has won several art industry awards, and is on the Editorial Advisory Board of Art World News magazine."
It's almost Orwellian. He who controls the media, controls the message and all that...
But to anyone working in the arts it's old news and not really an exception.

It shows quite clearly how a market is created, who creates it (and why)... Maybe a reason why banksy does not release new prints as receives % through mbw sales?

Too long established now, too global and too many people invested in the brand, the artist and the idea! Banksy has a long way to go and in terms of value and the price for his originals........... these are going to escalate more and more!
Brainwash is too big also to tank now, too many institutions involved around the world and there is lots of money to keep promoting the band and to keep it alive!
IMO it will never tank, not now. Too long established now, too global and too many people invested in the brand, the artist and the idea! Banksy has a long way to go and in terms of value and the price for his originals........... these are going to escalate more and more!

He rehashes images, makes them colourful and with plenty going on, nothing new in that, Peter Blake has been doing it for years! He also has a massive following and his originals sell for great money in large established galleries. Whether you like him or not, he has a global marketplace and plenty of appeal to a lot of people. Heis a great marketeer! For the record, I like a lot of his stuff!

I don't know whether it's terrible printing by MBW but to me, it doesn't even particularly look like Marley.

Agreed definitely better than this shite. $450 for 3 smallish photo's still a bit steep but at least they're great! I don't know whether it's terrible printing by MBW but to me, it doesn't even particularly look like Marley. |

I didn't know or care about what 'art' was but I was mad into moving the carousel to see the next shitty poster.
I see Mr Brainwash as a modern day version of that.
