STIK - New Work, by tab1 on Mar 21, 2019 21:51:29 GMT 1, his market would fail if he released any more or more frequently , it is only because of the limited supply and people with finances supporting his market that it stays so high Nice simple prints but not releastically worth that amount, 15kgbp for a print? Only through auctions that gallery advisors purchase for certain buyers that often have no insight in the art but buy on advice of an investment .

Just speculation but I suppose by not releasing prints and when they are at auction and achieve 9-15kgbp it is easy to justify selling canvases at 15-30kgbp , he could be releasing canvases through different channels which would be more profitable to the artist than releasing prints .very easy to manipulate stiks market now if you bought in early and have multiples as majority of stik owners do

I don’t understand this argument at all. I am ‘fully’ aware of the artists past to a degree. Thanks for thinking of me. However, my point is this. A serious question. Why the focus on auction results? I’m not out to cause offence. Though I have no idea why raising this question does. It is boring. To me at least. It distracts from his history and the good work that he does. It places a main focus on the financial result and not the charitable aspects that are often a lynchpin of his work. I have no doubt that many artists get a huge buzz out of seeing high prices raised at auction. However, I would prefer to see more work rather than the inside of an auction room with every post. Each to their own.

All artists do it anyway, its in no way just him. Its just something that interests some people i guess, maybe not you, but there are others it does. I go and watch them! admittedly its another excuse for a day in London, but its cool to see his stuff in that surrounding, and to see the people that go to these things and the other stuff he is now aligned with. Pretty cool to see him with Haring, Miro, Warhol pieces and all the other tons of amazing artists his work now sits alongside.

Okay you have convinced me. A well conceived argument.

STIK - New Work, by teabaggins on Apr 4, 2019 0:44:35 GMT 1, It’s also a modern way to be seen more broadly.
It’s so much easier to talk about money than art. That’s why the OVERWHELMING majority do. It requires no courage or vulnerability. This place is a perfect example.
How many artist discussions would actually exist here without talking coin? How many pages do you think a discussion would go?
Objectively it’s a sound strategy to be noticed more broadly In today’s times.

Wonderful. It’s a real shame these multiple billion dollar auction houses don’t have client lists; catalogues and many other tools at their disposal. Thank you for your post.

What’s your problem with me? I bought my first painting from an artist after he made an Instagram post about it being auctioned. Nothing wrong with that.

I don’t have a problem with anyone. My apologies if you think in some way I have a problem. I don’t understand your last comment though. What does that have to do with the price of cheese? This is a forum. It’s not a direct insult. I like STIK a geat deal by the way. I’m just challenging this idea of promoting sales over work all the time. Don’t see why this is an issue.

I feel like I’m having difficulty coming off as sincere in my posts. I was responding to your comment about the Auction houses having the resources to advertise a sale. A lot of people who follow an artist are casual fans and not collectors. They could, like I, see a post that motivates them to check out the auction. I felt like he was giving people an opportunity to keep up with his art for sale. There’s been times, looking on Artnet, where I just missed an auction and I really wish it was advertised to me. And I think as an artist if your auctions are promoted and do well, you’ll be more likely to sell out future works because successful auction results show that there is a healthy demand for his art.
