New Banksy in Marble Arch London? - Extinction Rebellion, by Lroy on Apr 26, 2019 13:21:59 GMT 1, The same stencil of the girl as used on the recent walled off hotel piece Good spot. Personally I don't think this new piece really works. But it'll get attention and I'm sure that's the main point.
Yeps, someone told me too earlier this morning.. :-)

New Banksy in Marble Arch London? - Extinction Rebellion, by Hairbland on Apr 26, 2019 13:46:40 GMT 1, It starts feeling a bit like a thing of the past seeing these pop up really... Sure we all love the stencils, and of course there will be talk about whether to protect it, and the fame grabbing whores like Kessler and Brandler will be all over it to make a quick buck ...but all in, this stencil won't do much to the cause. ER team are very good at being heard and pushing their agenda to the front of people's mind. Banksy adding yet another stencil to the cause seems a bit...meh, who cares ? Banksy's stencils are becoming inaudible i think Hard to say. If you were there in the early days maybe so. But he has been mainstream for awhile, and when he does this it gets major mainstream news coverage. A similar situation would be complaining about a band after it has left the small clubs and had mainstream success.
I’d say his stencils are more audible.

To me the medium, the iconography, the messaging etc... is all getting a bit tired
RE did a great job of putting climate inaction front and center of the media.
Bansky arrives on the last day and puts up a half baked cheeky stencil with an almost misspelled quote...good for him, but he's clearly in the sidelines on this one.
This doesn't take anything away from his art and person, but I think the relevance of these stencils is eroding

New Banksy in Marble Arch London? - Extinction Rebellion, by Sliding on the Walls on Apr 26, 2019 16:44:32 GMT 1, Extinction Rebellion seem well dodgy and I'm surprised Banksy wants to be associated with them. I wouldn't be surprised if they are secretly working with the gvmnt to get new draconian anti-protest laws enforced before the shit hits the fan with Brexit. They actively encouraged people to get themselves arrested and complained that there weren't enough people getting arrested... All the while the one founder is getting his doctorate for 'effective radical campaigning' whilst making sure he's not in the firing line... One can't help but think of him as an evil puppet master

I would agree. The pop up stencils are reminiscent of his works from over a decade ago. People get tired when an artist doesn’t branch out or evolve after a year. Yet it could be argued these works are the ‘same’ as anything he did decades ago.
Now he seemed to take massive steps with the large installations - disma, walled off, boti but now reverting to one off stencils ala the early days.

(Plus everyone scouring their photos of the event to find their accidental picture of "Banksy", if he'd done this while it was happening!!)

Yeah there is something about this organisation that doesn’t sit right with me. I’m not trying to deny climate change, and praise awareness done the right way however ;
1) the encouraged arrests of young, passionate people (who have their futures potentially marred from criminal records) by organisers who are ‘well off’ by comparison is wrong
2) Problem > reaction > solution has shown in the past that laws can and will be created to counter exactly the form of protest Extinction Rebellion are promoting. This isn’t going to end well and I worry that any form of protest will be made a crime if they continue like this. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work that out so therefore I question what else is going on that we (and by that I mean the passionate, disenfranchised, ‘mad-as-hell’ populous) aren’t being told?

New Banksy in Marble Arch London? - Extinction Rebellion, by Guy Denning on Apr 27, 2019 0:12:03 GMT 1, Nobody's being forced to put themselves in a position to be arrested. If you follow the XR youtube channel it's clear that they're well aware of the circumstances they may face and arrestable actions are all voluntary. I'm off this weekend to make some peaceful, illegal direct actions myself... in the land of the '68ers that you also disparage. I've been angry about this issue since the early 80s when I learnt about it. Times are changing and I'm getting my head up my arse again. Someone's got to do it and I'm angrier now than I was then. I've got grandchildren. I want to be able to look them in the eye when they're older and say I did my best by them.

New Banksy in Marble Arch London? - Extinction Rebellion, by Dive Jedi on Apr 27, 2019 3:20:11 GMT 1, Isn't it rather unusual that an artist like Banksy would use the same stencil twice? Especially for 2 completely different causes?
Does he paint something in Palestine and then travel back to UK with his stencils?
I think it might be more likely someone else made a stencil of the WOH image. That's how you get those rather harsh shadows on the leg. Cutting shades and spray them full.
Would Banksy really misspell "tactics" and if so fix it like that….?
Time will tell ( or rather IG).
