Sotheby's Art Auctions โข NEW YORK ๐บ๐ฒ, by wiz on May 14, 2009 18:52:21 GMT 1, I do see both scenarios yes Frankie, the seasoned auction goer in me sees the first one a more than likely situation, i have known auction houses buy works in (like all the houses do) and shift them around the world at different locations and even different auction houses to sell at a later sale, if it does not sell then its simply "Bought" by them with an in house name / bidder which they will use for the sale and then vaulted until a future sale, looks bad to go unsold more than once so the appearance of a result at a sale will help in the future. Also maybe it was sold to a buyer?, these auctions! funny buggers.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข NEW YORK ๐บ๐ฒ, by jamesreeve5 on May 15, 2009 6:58:41 GMT 1, snausages... I found the thread where I offered the Dan Colen bubblegum and kisses paintings...
at the bottom of the page urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=27643&page=2
couldn't find the birdshit one, might have only posted that on giant.org
Now that I'm looking back, I wonder what e bought with that 10k... I'd be laughing my ass off right now if he bought Faile or Banksy prints like half of the people in that thread were telling him to.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข NEW YORK ๐บ๐ฒ, by aginghippie on May 16, 2009 4:09:17 GMT 1, Sorry to be unclear - I was suggesting that maybe it was gauranteed 1st time round when it went unsold. So Sotherbys owned it and put it at no reserve this time round. That leaves the possabillity of a) it sells well and sotherbys are out of the piece or b) they will make sure it looks like it sells well for when it reappears in another year or 2 or sold privately later down the line - but now it has history that the piece sold well at auction. If my assumption is right, one thing is for sure - they would not let the lot 'pass' and have another non sale on the same piece 2 years in a row.
If Sotherbys owned that piece there is no way they could let it not make estimate since it didn't sell last time. A piece that filed twice in a row would be seen as damaged goods.
I know people who have bought their own pieces at auction when they weren't going to make reserve specifically to avoid that blight.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข NEW YORK ๐บ๐ฒ, by singerstu on Sept 5, 2018 14:31:27 GMT 1, Interesting that according to the catalogue he acquired a Green No Ball Games and Silver Choose Your Weapon directly from Pest Control (POW). The former was sold by online lottery. I guess they made a mistake and he entered and won the lottery

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข NEW YORK ๐บ๐ฒ, by rogerwu99 on Oct 3, 2018 23:44:11 GMT 1, Was at the preview the other day, some truly spectacular pieces. Unfortunately for an unknown reason, Lots 1 and 2 were yanked, the life size cowboy and indian by yoram wolberger ... i don't know if he qualifies for this message board, but if anyone has one laying around would love to pick it up!

At $720k all in, whoever won the auction got that painting for a steal. Makes you feel sorry for the poor sod who bought that teeny tiny Laugh Now Canvas for 400k sterling.
