I think we have a few members from Chicago, any of you been to this show? Really looks like they have a lot of pieces by Artists that get talked about here a lot.

Hey peeps! I spent over 3 hours at Art Chicago last weekend. Saw the Obey Revoultions exhibition. Some of the smaller album covers were still available for 2,000 a pop (editions of 8).

Saw some pretty cool stuff overall. Street art wise, a gallery had a Mr Brainwash 'Madonna.' Kinda surprised and Disappointed not to see anything Banksy. I would say, overall, the street art scene was severely underrepresented considering the amount of galleries (over 200 i think). On top of that, there were quite a few artists stealing street art ideas and the not (one guy even made Rubik cube portraits a la space invader. go figure)

You should pop into the art institute, head down to see the Anish Kapoor Bean in Millenium Park, and perhaps take a stroll down to Navy Pier. As for street art, it's been a while since living there. Couldn't help on that front. Enjoy, looks like some decent weather this week too.

There Chicago Cultural center usually has some cool shows (across the street almost from the institute).

If you're staying downtown mostly for the show, you'll find almost nothing. It's illegal to buy spray paint in Chicago, and our former mayor started a program that buffs any kind of graffiti or street art in hours sometimes. Everytime I'm in another large city, I'm always amazed by how 'clean' downtown Chicago is. If you find a tag of some kind, it usually won't be there tomorrow.

There are a few cool installations on State and Wabash (Loop Pop-Up shows). They get artists to do installs in vacant store windows. Saw a few cool ones on Wabash/Madison area when I was shooting photos the other day.

Regarding street art, without a car, you'll be pretty hard-pressed to get to some of these spots in a day:

Banksy's 'baby carriage rolling down the stairs' piece is at corner of Peoria/Roosevelt. Roa has an awesome piece in the area too, but you'd have to look it up (Hubbard/Peoria maybe?). There's some stuff in Logan Square as well, and Nick Walker did a mural on the front of a local bar called Violet Hour (probably 300 feet south of the Damen Blue Line stop). There are a few other guys that left their mark when they came through town, but we have a city that is ridiculously hard to keep anything up for any period of time. Wicker Park (Damen Blue Line stop) is a cooler neighborhood for that kind of thing (although it's gentrified as all hell now, but there are some cool shops and bars in that area). You'll find alot of sticker art and stuff that hasn't gotten the buff yet up there.

Well, the kickstarter just became approved and went live yesterday and the blog was today. I thought both were significant. Not posting to piss anyone off. Truly. Just getting the important info out as it plays. I apologize if this show/thread has offended anyone. I assure you, that's not the intent. This is in fact exciting and only post when something important comes up.
