Any COA with it? Is it signed on the canvas itself anywhere, or only on the s-bar.
Thanks.

Don’t really see a need to ask him to do it differently. He’d have no problem with authentication.

Now years later... Johnny come lately wants to tell the artist on how a work should be signed to suit their OCD? GTFOH!

Beejoir LV Child Canvas $5500, by rodgro on May 17, 2019 1:18:44 GMT 1, I think the only point WOOF was trying to make is an artist signing a piece on the stretcher bar is unusual as the stretcher is simply not part of the artwork. I’m not suggesting Beejoir did anything wrong as Chris is truly a great guy, but it is odd and I’m not sure I would be okay with it or would purchase something that comes that way. I wouldn’t be happy is he numbered one of his sculptures on the display box or one of his prints on the frame, but I know he doesn’t do that as I’ve known him for years and own several pieces that are signed, numbered, etc on the actual artwork. I think it’s just something to consider.

I think it’s just something to consider. I get what you are trying to say but your examples are not relative to this piece. A display box is certainly completely different. This is a complete artwork. The stretcher bars are part of the work as made and sold directly by Chris. Not something added later by someone else. I’m a bit dumbfounded why this would concern anyone who has collected artwork for a long time. It’s not exactly an unusual practice, less common for sure but not unusual. Hell even prints recently like Hirsts and Julian Opie’s are signed on a sticker applied to the back of the print. Doesn’t seem to concern anyone. 🤷🏻♂️
If it is a concern just don’t reach out. No worries here. Lol.

My examples of a display box and framed print are IDENTICAL to stretchers if they were provided by the artist as part of the print or sculpture. That said, I was just giving my opinion of what I thought WOOF was trying to say and what would and wouldn’t work for me as a collector. As far as my comment about it being unusual to sign a stretcher bar rather than the canvas I stand by that as I’ve never seen seen a stretcher bar signed before but that doesn’t mean some artists don’t do it...no need for anyone to post saying my “insert name here” is signed on the stretcher bar as I’m NOT suggesting it doesn’t happen...I’ve just never seen it. Also not sure it makes sense to make a comparison between Chris and D. Hirst as the last I checked Chris doesn't have a factory and countless assistants. I do hope the piece sells/finds a great new home as it’s a classic image that will always be relevant in his body of work. Best. R
