But I still paid vat, and still paid 35 pound to ship which are both rediculous

Those that charge VAT to customers in America are not doing it out of laziness or spite. It is impossible for them to charge without VAT. They can't separate the two. It is only major companies that deal worldwide that seem to state prices "excluding VAT" and then add on the VAT for UK and European customers only. Many small companies are unable to do that. |
