Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by Graffiti Prints on Aug 4, 2012 11:03:43 GMT 1, 201 of 750? were only 150 signed so that would not make sense. sig looks fine etc. Early prints weren't signed in succession, as a result 150 were signed in a fairly random order throughout the edition.
i have never heard that, i have most early pow prints bought direct and there all low numbers under 150 as there all signed.

actually all under 100 and i did buy 2 at a time plus unsigned ones and the numbers were always right. i know pow were a unprofessional bunch back then so i do think u could be right but my prints were always correct.

Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by Deleted on Aug 4, 2012 11:14:25 GMT 1, hold on a sec, are you sure you might not be adding it to a 'fake' thread rather too easily? maybe the seller is merely be a newbie and not a very accurate person? I have NO connection at all to the buyer, but if you look at the photo it actually looks like 201 / 750, which would be feasible, given it was an edition of 750 (150 signed / 600 unsigned). I believe most signed ones were numbered out of 150, and unsigned out of 600 (my unsigned ones certainly were) so being numbered out of 750 could potentially be weird. However it's not clear evidence of fakery - I have had mis numbered prints from POW before. The sig looks ok, and '04' tallies. It also has the right era POW stamp. I'm not saying this is genuine, but I'm a bit surprised at how someone's listing could be so easily be picked up and splashed around like this. Looks spot on, sig, date, stamp. Some were numbered from the total edition of 750. This looks like the seller has mistaken a 2 for a 0 is all. Number would be 201/750.
So this is wrong then ^?.

you are both right.
sometimes POW did it right, sometimes they did it wrong. sometimes they had a 'policy' of how they should order the signed and unsigned prints, and sometimes they didn;t!
anyone who went to sclater st regularly (as I did) will know that it was a mess in there. prints everywhere. fag ash and coffee. original banksy canvases casually lying around.
I had a signed CND signed 2xx / 150 (should be 350), until I pointed it out to them. I had a circus numbered out of 75 instead of 100, until I pointed it out to them.

Banksy generally didn't signed them all in one go. Signed weren't in that much demand, so occassionaly he'd call down and sign ones that had been ordered, they'd pull one of the rack and he'd sign it. POW confirmed this themselves a few years back. Numering was all over the place, an exception raher than the rule though. Suspect that's what happened with the one on ebay.

Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by yeah on Aug 4, 2012 11:33:25 GMT 1, What exactly might I be wrong about then? I never said it was genuine, I merely gave a very professional opinion as a VERY experienced collector and buyer from POW on what I can see on ebay, namely that the sig, the 04 and the earlier version of the POW BS tally up. I questioned the numbering out of 750, but it is clear it is not numbered 001 - the photo shows it to be numbered 201 from 750, which everyone else seems to be ignoring. If I was selling such a print I would not make such a basic error, but there is no accounting for how little accuracy most of society have these days. of course most of that can be faked (the print, the numbering, and the sig), or it could be stolen photos, it could be a stolen print, or it could be just a total chancer. It could be anything, but to call it a fraud without giving the evidence of what the photos show is surely unfair and anyhting clearly fraudulent is a matter for ebay. By the by - the BS is unlikely to be easily faked. just to be clear, I would not buy it on the photos and description we currently have before us, and I would not encourage anyone else to buy it at the moment, but if I was the seller I'd be surprised at how fast people are to ignore what they can see in front of their eyes. urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?board=artforsale&action=display&thread=97441Looks lovely in that frame, but its whats NOT in front of your eyes you want to worry about matey, not what your being shown!!!!
I give up. it's easy for you to casually come back with a general warning about TOTAL CON MEN, but I wrote a detailed reply to your previous remarks, and about what the listing shows.
I am merely saying that the one on ebay could be ANYTHING. It could be a total con man, it could be a genuine newbie who is a poor seller / has realised he needs some quick money so sticks his banksy on ebay and will be a fool to himself because if he's legit he'll get a rubbish price for it.
All I'm saying is that I am surprised how quick people are to shout 'fake' when the photos suggest otherwise, and when experienced POW buyers like myself and Nuart are politely pointing out that the photos aren't necessarily wrong.
of course this seller could be putting up stolen photos / not actually have the item in hand, but how on earth can any of us prepare for that, apart from the general advice that to buy an item of high value from a newbie seller is very very risky? I seem to believe in greys, you seem to only believe in black and whites.

Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by xmyart on Aug 4, 2012 11:44:07 GMT 1, Lol i would avoid believing in greys when your parting with large sums of money. If there is anything grey and unresolved, its going to be an expensive lesson.
That listing has been picked up and called out for variopus reasons. Its a general warning, and a very fair and on the money one.
Ask the seller if he will unframe it and show you the back, ask if you can view the item. See if you can or if it all gets sketchy and seems like avoidance, if it does its bent. If it doesn't, go round and see it and make your own decision. I wouldnt touch it if it cant be unframed, even if your looking the dam thing in the eyes!

Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by confused2 on Aug 4, 2012 12:17:04 GMT 1, It has no COA. The seller has applied for one but POW will not issue one. Not sure if it's down to the purchase history or something else.
It looks the part, albeit with strange numbering, but £3.5k is an awful lot of cash to spend on something that has been unable to be authenticated.

Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by hnkpnk on Aug 4, 2012 14:22:49 GMT 1, Everything looks fine to me except the numbering. I think it's the first time I see one that is wrongly numbered like this. Often there is a mistake in edition size (#/150 and #/750), but not that the print number is outside the 1-150.

Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by craigf on Aug 5, 2012 7:35:05 GMT 1, Lots of replies above re this Rat, but no reply from the seller, which could be for a thousand reasons including that they are watching the Olympics, don't have Internet access at weekends etc so I'm not inferring anything from that.
Normally if POW is concerned re a print they ask you to bring it in for them to look in person. Not sure if the seller has tried this, but the coa would make the difference between a nice poster to an authenticated limited edition print worth a hefty amount
