Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by met on Mar 27, 2014 5:01:00 GMT 1, The item is not authentic.
If this isn't immediately obvious to you, i.e. you find yourself having to ask the question, then you are in fact part of the target market for this eBay seller and the dozens of other scammers selling tat as genuine Banksy works.
I appreciate the comment may come across as patronising, but the intention is to encourage caution and self-awareness regarding what may be limited experience in art-buying on your part. Former members of the now-defunct eBay.co.uk Banksy forum will be able to confirm that fake Banksy pieces started to become a real issue in 2005. Unsurprisingly, the problem has since grown exponentially.
To minimise the risk of making a costly mistake, my advice would be to follow one rule of thumb: When a piece being sold as a Banksy is not accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Banksy's authentication body, Pest Control (www.pestcontroloffice.com/), stay well away.

Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by Deleted on Mar 28, 2014 11:39:40 GMT 1, Anyone buying off EBay etc should learn auction terms and jargon.
Also have a look at sellers ongoing and past sales and feedback.
Unless it's authenticated, EBay does state that the artists name should not be used in the title.
It's often ignored by Ebay in certain selling countries.
Ebay makes lots of money in fees from sellers and auction selling fees are high.
"After" usually means a copy and "manner of" usually means a copy made after the artist died or made at a later date than the original was made.
Technically any seller using these terms is covered legally and some hide it somewhere in their listing but as long a sit's there they are covered.
The big problem for these sellers is something called artists intellectual rights which is enforced in some countries and to do with an artist that died less than 75 years ago (+ 75 means copyright expired ). Where the artists heirs or authenticator/s can say such copies or pastiches infringe on the dead artists intellectual copyright.
To me it's bulls**t that any dead artist can have intellectual copyright but these things exist.
What amazes me is that buyers on Ebay etc expect to buy a multi thousand dollar artwork for peanuts and then go crying when it's shown to be a fake.
You get what you pay for.
Here are auction terms from a big auction house.
Art auctions use a variety of techniques to avoid responsibility for selling fake art, and to effectively deceive buyers into believing that dubious works are genuine. The cunning wording that auction houses (and museums) use to describe a painting's authenticity is one of their most potent tactics. For example, Christie's will gladly sell a painting as "Attributed to Rembrandt" if 99.9% of it was executed by another painter. In the possible scenario that Rembrandt had no part in the painting, Christie´s can simply fall back on its 'Sold as is' clause - meaning that you have absolutely no recourse. Major auction houses include a ´glossary´ of their terminology in the beginning of their catalogue (interestingly, the glossaries of both Sotheby's and Christie´s has been shortened and features less prominently in recent catalogues). To my knowledge, neither auction house offers its glossary online. It is important to note that in even the highest category of attribution (see category number one), the buyer has no guarantee that the auction house´s "qualified opinion" is correct. Anyone considering investing in a work of art should be aware of these disclaimers and the fact that they leave the buyer completely exposed. The following are the categories for the Christie's 1984 catalogue of American paintings: GLOSSARY For Pictures, Drawings, Prints and Miniatures Terms used in this catalogue have the meanings ascribed to them below. Please note that all statements in this catalogue as to Authorship are made subject to the provisions of the CONDITIONS OF SALE, LIMITED WARRANTY and ABSENCE OF OTHER WARRANTIES.
1. PABLO PICASSO (The artist's first name or names and last names). In our opinion a work by the artist.
2. Attributed to FRANCESCO GUARDI* In our qualified opinion a work of the period of the artist which may be in whole or part the work of the artist.
3. Circle of FRANCESCO GUARDI* In our qualified opinion a work of the period of the artist and closely related to his style.
4. Studio of; Workshop of FRANCESCO GUARDI* In our qualified opinion a work possibly executed under the supervision of the artist.
5. School of FRANCESCO GUARDI* In our qualified opinion a work by a pupil or follower of the artist.
6. Manner of FRANCESCO GUARDI* In our qualified opinion a work in the style of the artist, possibly of a later period.
7. After FRANCESCO GUARDI* In our qualified opinion a copy of the work of the artist.
8. "signed" Has a signature which in our qualified opinion is the signature of the artist.
9. "bears signature" Has a signature which in our qualified opinion might be the signature of the artist.
10. "dated" Is so dated and in our qualified opinion was executed at about that date.
11. "bears date" Is so dated and in our qualified opinion may have been executed at about that date. "This term and its definition in this glossary is a qualified statement as to Authorship. While the use of this term is based upon careful study and represents the opinion of experts, Christie's and the Seller assume no risk, liability or responsibility for the authenticity of any lot in this catalogue described by this term.
*This term and its definition in this glossary is a qualified statement as to Authorship. Banksy's on eBay • Real or Fake?, by Dive Jedi on Jul 17, 2019 12:50:05 GMT 1, Daniel Silk , it's a collectors item. As long as Banksy will be popular there will be collectors that will pay good money for these. It's the same for Peckham Rocks or Forgive Us posters. Even stickers go for 200 quid.
Best to see it as entry level Banksy collection pieces.
