But more interesting was the prices today!
Bargains to be had and signs that the market has got indigestion and too much has been sold through. Forum auction should be interesting tomorrow and Bonhams dreadful sale next week.
Soup Tin colour - hammer $65k All up $81.3k
Nola white - hammer $130k - All up $162.5k
Jack & Jill (s) - hammer $70k - All up $87.5k
Morons (u/s) - hammer $40k - All up $50.0k
Very Little Helps - hammer $75k - All up $93.8k
Add 5% import duty for the UK and the ยฃ = $1.38 Thats Nola at under ยฃ125k!!!

Prices are definitely softening as a result of the consistent supply at auction. Itโs clearly across the board and canโt be attributed to a bad auction, but the unsigned and weaker signed prints are going to fare worse than prints like Nola. I think the Nola was a good buy for someone and had it been in the UK and I could have inspected in person I probably would have thrown in another bid.

Itโs the same in all markets as they mature...itโll take 12 months or so to shake out as the original owners now try to cash in against a falling price. Interesting times!

We've found in a lot of instances that estimates give people a false sense of value and end up constraining bidding. We'd rather present moderate opening bids and let the market determine the price through competitive bidding. Rather than trying to dictate it with high estimates and reserves or have works that fall flat on the auction block.
