Jose parla exhibition 9th September 2019, by Deleted on Aug 16, 2019 20:22:42 GMT 1, They had originals at his show in NYC for 20K and they just sat there. Didn't sell except for one.
Unless this edition is of 5 or 10 this is simply batshit crazy. The entire Art Market is down 20% since last year and I still keep getting emails from White Cube offering Harland Miller crap from his Hong Kong flop. The art market is not doing well at all except for a few prized auction results you hear of.
There is NO REASON for this to be more than $2.5k USD not pounds. This year all the shows are going to try and squeeze every last dollar they can because they know this market is already over. The downward sales in the high-end market will affect these prints as well soon. Look at Beyond the Streets, all their prints are still available, people are getting tired. Sales for original pieces, outside of someone like KAWS or a very big blue chip artist, are not selling and auctions are not doing very well.
Looks to me like Trump is trying to undo globalization and a few European and Asian countries are following. I think the end of this year and next will be pretty interesting in terms of the art market.
Basically what I am saying is this is a beautiful but also an extremely stupid print to purchase at this price. At this point, the only people buying stuff like this is... us UAA idiots (me included). We need to stop buying these things and stop allowing these galleries to get away with murder - in terms of pricing. This is just stupid now.

Tough, seems like you and i are reading the same news. However how much of this drop is being driven by the absolutely nutty prices people were paying for commercial contemporary artists. It seems like much of what is being bought at the high high end has been valued absurdly over the last decade. Look no further than damien hirst. That said, i wonder where the market for mid and lower tier artists, like lister, or maya hayuk or paul insect. Seems to be that an original from them at 10-20k could yield a nice profit on the future.
My last point is one which i have been thinking about for quite some time, especially since i work in fashion. Seems to me in the past people hung art that appealed to them and it was less for show. Our generation came along and made some money buying and selling โtrendy,โ art which i will add, WE LOVED ON OUR WALLS, because we were from the streets where this work came from as well. This next generation has been trained to covet what others have. I had a gallerist offer me an off color ap for a significantly lower amount than an edition. His explanation, the kids will only spend big bucks on editioned work. So my question is as follows, will the confluence of our generation and the new generation lead to a buoying of the urban contemporary market?
Seems to me they will, with fuckboy gallery (arsham fieg gallery) opening. The next generations seems primed to oay top dollar for the likes that we have collected for over a decade.
That said i will close with what i always say, if you like the art and want it on your wall buy hopefully youโll be able to sel it higher i. The future. If you want to make a living, get a job!

Jose parla exhibition 9th September 2019, by Deleted on Aug 17, 2019 1:16:32 GMT 1, You mean the $200,000 USD Maya Hayuk (unsold) or the $6.5k Paul Insect Eyes, at Beyond the Streets, that you could have bought for a thousand less at Heritage Auctions just a few weeks ago?
Everything in the market is screaming that the bubble is now deflating. There isn't too many good deals at the moment for anything. Maya and Paul, are two artist who people have been screaming "will make it" for already over close to a decade or more, but they really have not gone too far outside of their little fan base and UAA. Maybe in two decades they will but until then make sure you remain a huge fan and think your taste in art will remain the same for 20 years.
Streat Artists, to me, who have been doing the same art for 10+ years, are basically commercial artist and (harsh, sorry) one-trick ponies (the only one who somehow gets a pass; because people can argue does it the best or made it the most famous of the style is RETNA; again all personal opinion or maybe after he's now banned from instagram he might drop and even his s***t isn't selling too well right now). Its clear to me these artist know they can really sell only one style of art and when they try other types it just fails. (Hush and Tristan Eaton to me are like this but each to their own)
Have you seen Maya Hayuks other art... s**tt... just check out the david bowie print... Or any of her other style of art.... I think after she lost the court case against Starbucks, maybe a unfairly a women thing since REVOK beat his case, really crushed her and her career unfortunately. Basically the US courts allowed anyone to take the that style of work and use it; even commercially.
If you like an artists or print sure go for it and purchase it. The only thing is just remember you are paying the absolute max price right now for most prints and originals by any artist; again unless it's a major blue chip at retail - which can be few and hard to get. There is a very good chance right now you will find that print you like or original sell for less in a few months or next year. Hold on to it for a decade or two then sure anything could increase in value.

$5k for an edition of 50 but you have to buy it framed no exception so total is really $6k. Looks really nice but had to pass for that price. Releases end of next month officially.
