BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by pfffffffffft on Oct 17, 2019 13:21:36 GMT 1, Which data? The total number of editioned pieces? Someone listed each piece and the edition available in the store upthread. I just totaled them up. 495 pieces in the shop. Didn't include the Welcome Mat because it's listed as unlimited with no COAs. Clock 50 Met Ball 15 Clutch Bag 1 Duck & Cover 15 Learning Set 5 Banksquiat 300 Axe 3 Thrower 100 Vest 1 Soft Toys 5 Ah sorry dude, put you through that for nothing! Id like to see how many people went for which items. So much tactical stuff has gone down i wouldnt be surprised if the prints have 30,000 entries and the edition of 3 has like 12. I am exaggerating the numbers, but you get my point. I'd love to see that too but it also matters how they do the lottery. With so many entries I doubt it's going to matter.
I haven't heard anyone say that they are going for the clock though on this thread so I wonder if something like that might be the best shot for something limited.

I have no idea what they plan to do with the lottery, so dont really give that much thought. But the way this thread has played out i think a lot went for the best chance rather than their fave piece. I went through like a steam train though so didnt get involved in much tactical thinking (if any!), just hit what i liked. I have a feeling the odds may be very different to the obvious though. Won find out though, which is a shame
Your right about the clock though, very very few mentions on here. Which will make someone on here VERY happy. They havnt posted i dont think, but i know of one clock hunter.

Truthfully though the way they are doing it is much fairer.
Eh, next time I know I can take my time. Luckily I chose what I really wanted but I really love those spray cans too and would have probably spent a few days mulling over whether I grab a spray can which is a much surer thing than the MetBall. I tend to be risk adverse so I probably would have landed on the spray can ultimately but for the next few weeks I'm going to think....ah I have a sliver of a chance and the Ball which will be nice. :-)

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Rubberneck on Oct 17, 2019 14:03:43 GMT 1, Id love to see the data. I still think a lot have gone for the easier win and the editions may be a lower side of the gamble than it normally would be if he lotteried an editioned original. Which data? The total number of editioned pieces? Someone listed each piece and the edition available in the store upthread. I just totaled them up. 495 pieces in the shop. This will only be the ones for release during the shop or this phase of the shop, either pieces have already been sold privately or will come later at market prices in my opinion...

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by microcosmica on Oct 17, 2019 23:31:52 GMT 1, I’m a bit surprised that Banksy bothered to give the brick handles, because a regular brick would have sold just as easily and could have been another unlimited edition.
The rat clocks are almost the perfect Kaufmanesque statement. I guess he’s done the bare minimum... probably needs to show he had some hand in it to fulfil the trademark requirements.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by pfffffffffft on Oct 18, 2019 23:25:32 GMT 1, So the entries are over 200,000 First day - 110,000 2nd day 70,000 3rd day 25,000 4th day..... let me ask again... Has ANYONE, yourself or another person entered for the brick handbag or Refugee Counting Set? I haven't seen anyone enter for a clock but definitely a few entries for the counting set.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by drip on Oct 19, 2019 19:19:34 GMT 1, I'm surprised that the truck/counting set isn't more popular. I initially found it horrifically upsetting but now I see hope in it. Plus, the baby's face is so sweet.
I was speaking to a friend about the shop, and he had a quick look and was horrified by the prices for the clocks and that, whereas I'm going 'Hmm, very reasonable for a Banksy. I should be so lucky'. I think a lot of the general public will find some of the prices quite intimidating and go for the more affordable items. And I reckon quite a lot of people won't have £500 or £750 spare that they can use to play some sort of art lottery.
Also, I don't see Banksy-curious members of the public going for the prints. Throw in about a bazillion people not reading the T&C's and disqualifying themselves, and the odds on the higher-priced art might not be that bad*.
*lol

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by DAVE on Oct 20, 2019 10:11:22 GMT 1, So are people posting all the noble things they’d do with their art in hopes that Banksy is reading and will select them? I wondered about people showing their confirmation number , followed by highly praised posts !🙄😂 Just have a level head , once you start imagining , fantasising owning the piece and you IF you are unsussesful it becomes more of a let down , Bet some people have booked next years holidays based on the purchase of their selected item!😄 I've just put a deposit down on a new house based on the fact I'll probably get at least the vest, flower thrower and 2 or 3 clocks.
5/5

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by drip on Oct 20, 2019 10:39:24 GMT 1, Y'know what? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the clocks are brand harry spankers new, because it's easier to source brand new clocks from an office supply company (ethical one, obvs) than it is to send one of your work experience monkeys out to every charity shop in a 200 mile radius, to source 50 (for now) identical clocks.
Does anyone know if the batteries are included or whether you have to buy some?

Well that’s a shame. With a broken clock you’d get the satisfaction of being right twice a day, which is about all I can handle personally. A clock that actually works is going to be some kind of dopamine overload.

it it would be nice to think they were once on an office wall, with a bunch of people watching them waiting for the hours to slowly tick away. Not realising they were a few metres away from a genuine Banksy in the making

'Anyone know if the clocks are broken, or do they actually work?' Possibly two answers to this question. They are not broken as the hands move. They don't work as a clock should, as the time is not correct.

I had a clock once that went backwards if the battery was the wrong way round, yep true story! I think Banksy missed a trick here😉

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by drip on Oct 20, 2019 11:17:59 GMT 1, Once it's yours, you can do what you like with it. I personally would put an almost flat battery in it. Just for the excitement. I had a clock once that went backwards if the battery was the wrong way round, yep true story! I think Banksy missed a trick here😉 That's amazing. I bought a watch from an advert in a newspaper once, and when it arrived, I noticed the hands were painted on.

😂🤣If I still had my backwards clock, I would have offered a trade for that

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by touchdowntodd on Oct 21, 2019 13:09:45 GMT 1, In my very humble opinion, the best part of all of this is the social expirment... The daily discussion, theories, etc..
Reality is only a handful of people in the world know if anything from the website will even be sold .. reality is that the "editioned" sculptures at the prices on the website would in fact be basically a loss of money compared to producing most of them, and recent B history shows they wouldn't sell these at those prices at all (ie: crucifix grappling, vip prints and items, etc).. I mean what are the chances there's more than 1 of those cribs? Or even 150 clocks? Who knows.. or, it could all really be the teams biggest gift to us in well over a decade, nearly 2...
My 2 cents is that prints will be sold if that, and maybe we all get invited to buy the open edition items. Altho even those seem oddly priced
We will see soon.. I wish I could've seen the "store" but let's remember the "store" never opens.. so let's not get angry if this was just to hault the copyright issues, and sell some welcome mats... Charity is always a great cause and without the B involvement those ladies would still be selling Mats for like 30 bucks
Like the sight says, be prepared to be let down. It's all fun regardless ...

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by drip on Oct 21, 2019 13:50:46 GMT 1, I think a lot of the items that are being sold more than cover their production costs. The clocks? The brick bag? T-Shirts? I hardly think he's making a loss on the whole project just to flog some merch for legal reasons. And even if he was, he can. I'm sure he knows what he's doing. And I'm sure some people are going to be fortunate enough to purchase some low-priced sculptures/items from GDP because it's not worth the risk to his "brand" (ugh!) to pretend to offer something to low-income earners, only to go 'Nah, mate. I'm cutting me own throat on these. I can't let them go for less than 40k'

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by gibbin82 on Oct 24, 2019 23:23:16 GMT 1, I own a rat and think they're amazing, especially when you see it in the flesh. I'm less convinced about the flower thrower, as unless you're familiar with the entire motif it's missing context. My hope of the other two panels being handed out didn't materialise, but there is still time. Definitely some surprises still in store and more disappointment on the way. Pleased you like the rat, but for me not being on a clock it is completely out of context and are not as inspired or amusing as the early rat stencils . Regarding the piece of flower thrower, it is only part of a great bit of work from the man and on its own nothing special. They were ‘again IMO’ just giveaways for the kids, so they could feel good about ‘owning a Banksy’ after being dragged along by their mums and dads to see the funny things in the shop window and never meant to be fetching silly money on the bay. It just seems to me as though Banksy mania has gone a bit crazy and it has become the modern day ‘South Sea Bubble’

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by avec art on Oct 24, 2019 23:36:31 GMT 1, but as you correctly point out, the mania was not the intention even if expected. Behind the hype is an extraordinary artwork beautifully created and executed.
He sprayed the initial stencil directly onto the acetate and the effect of this really shows itself with the fine detail, so clear it's as if each piece has been individually hand sprayed.
Then he's then used a tool to smudge the sprayed image while the paint was still wet on the acetate, giving a free flowing and dynamic expression.
They're a very different animal to the early anthropomorphised rats, and my initial thought was also like yours, that the posture of the rat required the clock, but without the clock it can still stand alone fine imao.
