BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by The Observer on Oct 3, 2019 20:54:53 GMT 1, That seems really low in comparison to Koons and kaws... I would consider this a masterpiece for Banksy and probably his most sought after work so far... I was actually thinking it would hammer anywhere from 25 to 50 Koons and Kaws markets are propped up by the super collectors. (Kaws by the Murakami connection and Koons via the support of people like the Mugrabes.) After the collapse of the grafitti art market in the 80s there's remains a mistrust of street art amongst the super collectors though that may now be about to change. Banksy has carved his own path so while it may take a little while longer to hit the nosebleed results, his long-term market will be far stronger for it.
I learn to read more about the collapse of the graffiti art market in the 80s. Which artists were involved?

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by reg on Oct 3, 2019 20:58:54 GMT 1, Maybe he opens the online store after that? That’s what that first news article said. Considering they got it right about being open for only two weeks, that’s probably going to be the case. There is the small matter that there are a lot of pieces at the site which are also for sale. Should anything "happen" during the two weeks, after sales have already taken place, things get very very complicated.
This isn't a gallery with tons of security, it's Croydon............ and from what I saw, the only cameras are above the cot
So it kind of make sense that we'll have to wait out the fortnight?

Publishing his original sale price for the piece would poke a huge hole in this philosophy methinks.

Stating it could take months to fulfill the order. It would give people a way to get a print, raise money, and show his full potential. He clearly doesn’t care about the money aspect and what it would do to the value. I wonder if he’s thought about that in the past few years.

Banksy has no power to blow up art owned by other people #justafact But he has a little bit of power to prevent it. There’s a nice thread here about how a open edition can burn wannabe flippers of the Nara charity print.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by urbanflik on Oct 3, 2019 22:33:11 GMT 1, Managed to get down to Croydon last night. Haven’t been in a few years but was reminded it’s quite a moody place! I found parking a bit restricted as like most town centres around London..Had some good conversation with B admirers old and new whilst making my way around the windows, although I ended up stopping a graff artist from bombing one of the shop windows - he had a spray can hidden up his jacket and came out of nowhere - maybe should have left it come think of it, add to the drama. Was also some large chap who had just left the pub and was standing by the crowd heckling about how this wasn’t real art. A reminder that security / banksy elves won’t have it easy there over the next few weeks, especially Saturday night - good luck! If you have the chance it’s well worth visit at night IMO with the Basquiat being the standout for me.
