BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by sbash on Oct 22, 2020 22:29:26 GMT 1, I wouldn't go and spend a fortune on new glass. The yellowing is oxidation and not just UV damage. Unless you seal them in an airtight container in the dark, then this will happen over time.AQnd And it's okay, and it looks good. Let's all chill.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by dismal555 on Oct 22, 2020 22:42:03 GMT 1, No worries. I wish I definitely had got them properly framed to start but like everyone has been saying maybe it gives them a bit of provenance as well with the yellowing.... Think the yellowing looks really good tbh, relax & enjoy. Like you suggest, gives the prints a degree of authentication! imo!
Absolutely agree, like all street art they are "ephemeral" meaning only short lifetime, probably why GDP staff were giving them out to kids and the odd drunk! The ones that actually do survive will be sort after!

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Treclau on Oct 22, 2020 23:35:37 GMT 1,
Someone tell me if I’m completely wrong in suggesting this, but I wonder if linen backing these GDP prints would be a good move to ensure their long term preservation? If framed without linen backing, they’d need to be archivally hinged to within an inch of their lives for that rippling to be tamed — and that discolouration screams high acidity/lignin content. Linen backing is maybe less relevant for the latter issue, but given that they’re about as ephemeral as Banksy’s work can get... what do people reckon?

Good question! It's strange that linen backed vintage posters is perfectly normal and a good way to preserve them and also increases the value. When it comes to art prints, linen backed or dry mounted is a big no no. Why? I don't have a fuckin clue...

I avoid dry mounting like the plague, it’s definitely up there with the worst well-intentioned but oh-so-wrong paper treatments... irreversible 99% of the time, and for the lucky 1%, still extremely difficult to correct. But you’re right – for vintage and antique posters that are equally as ephemeral as these GDP newsprint pieces, linen backing is the go-to method of preservation (...I’m in no way suggesting that it’s a suitable preservation method for editioned prints though... don’t do that!)

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Treclau on Oct 23, 2020 1:34:52 GMT 1, What do you mean? I'm sure these can be linen backed. I was answering your question about vintage movie posters vs prints that are being released these days. It's two completely different types of papers. You could linen back the free Banksy prints, but some people claim seeing the back is a way "authenticate" them. I would stay far away from any non PC Banksy stuff if you don't already have something at this point.
I think Terry was referring to the GDP newsprint pieces as opposed to editioned prints, but good to emphasise what shouldn’t be done all the same!
You make a fair point – if someone intends to sell in the future, maybe it’s better to leave these sheets alone. But given that there’s no solid way of authenticating these GDP newsprint pieces, I’d be inclined to simply treat the things well and enjoy... have them linen backed to add strength and smooth out those ripples, get them framed with all the conservation bells and whistles that your budget allows, and whack them up on the wall. Minimal heat, humidity and sunlight exposure if possible. The best place for them!

It finally arrived then, boom! Congratulations again.
The wife will come round to it, mine thought I planned on wearing it out & about at first as a fashion statement when it came through the post . I’ve actually just enquired about some display busts to put mine on as it’s been boxed up again ready for an impending house move so I thought I would change it up in the new place,, someone came up with that idea for me on here & I thought it would look pretty cool.
