Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by Woodey1001 on May 2, 2021 21:36:15 GMT 1, Then you have the case of people that missed out talking them down to buy in. When these first came out lots of members calling these worthless tat, few months later putting wanted requests to buy ?! The tesco posters are easy to fake and have been doing so, which we have already seen and they sell for double. If you know what to look out for and carry out checks prior to purchase , which there is a lot of references and guidance on here to seek, you are ok
No. You are being ripped off buying these. There will be as many fakes out there as originals... And you won't be able to tell.
Waste of money 🤷

So you think you could make a screen from the print that matches the original screen to be able to make perfect copies!? Nonsense. You’ll always lose details.
If it was that easy we’d already have perfect fakes of all his prints.

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by LJCal on May 2, 2021 22:16:33 GMT 1, I've had a few of these bought from 100% legit sources, I don't own any anymore (I think they became overvalued but thats another thread), so have no skin in the game. Someone skilled could probably create a screen that is close to the original (given it’s one colour and black) but I highly doubt it would fool people who have seen and handled authentic copies, there are quite a few small details that would likely be missed. It’s possible with enough time and money paying a printer and doing research to create a convincing fake but fraudsters don't tend to spend the money and time making perfect fakes because they don't need to, the best targets aren't experienced dealers and collectors but newcomers. Saying that when buying anything the source and provenance is just as important as the piece so always do your homework on them even if everything looks right.

Any fakes that come up people usually post here if they are wary about a purchase and the amount of members here with information and posters gained at the exhibition first hand by members within the forum, members can distinguish the fakes per example the tate ward tesco firebomb thread, if on the other hand you were not aware of the forum you may well be caught out again the same as the professionals at tateward

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by avec art on May 2, 2021 22:33:21 GMT 1, It's not only the details being lost in the screen printing process (we've already seen some horrible fakes on ebay without the spray detail). But also something which might surprise some people, would be to get the size right. It can be achieved with a bit of hit and miss, trial and error, but it's another stage to get right and more effort. Fortunately a replicated version of these will most likely be identifiable as a fake next to a genuine one.
I think fakes of these should be not too hard to spot to those of us who were around and watching GDP. As the poster pointed out they'll be targeting newbies.

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by peas on May 2, 2021 23:15:34 GMT 1, Fortunately a replicated version of these will most likely be identifiable as a fake next to a genuine one. You and others here keep stating this weird fucking thing that people can spot they've bought or are buying a fake because they have a 'real' one to compare it to.
I'm seriously hoping I don't need to extrapolate on the deeply obvious flaw in this frankly bizarre justification.

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by avec art on May 2, 2021 23:39:33 GMT 1, no you don't need to extrapolate. It's inherent and obvious. But I'm writing on a forum where people clearly take an interest in said artist. So I suppose the point I'm trying to make there, which has already been pointed out, is that if someone has concerns or questions about a particular rat, that there are enough people around here to willingly offer guidance.
I was also trying to expand my small point about size, and if the rest of the post was there, you can also see that I was agreeing with someone that fakes of this particular print is most likely aimed at newbies and therefore in various ways identifiable as such.

It’s entirely possible to view impressions handed out on the day and plenty of well known and respected members would willingly oblige, you could probably even arrange to view one if you wanted to be thorough. These can be authenticated like any other edition, using the exact same methods (which aren’t always perfect but seem to work most of the time), so sorry to say but you’re talking bollocks.

I’m sure it’s theoretically possible to make a good copy, but the idea it’s easy is nonsense.
You can’t just make a screen from the print and reprint identical copies. It would take quite a bit of effort to create a screen that produces an identical screen print with all the right detail.

I agree you'd have to be pretty committed. I guess the returns aren't really worth the time and effort when your only outlet for sales would be ebay, facebook and the forum. A lot less hassle to just stick a di faced tenner through a photocopier and go fishing with it.

But the works are put through an x ray and the paints are examined to check they are from the correct time period to distinguish if they are authentic along with fibers of the paper and canvas tested. Once an item becomes valuable there will always be fakes but then there becomes an industry to detect these. As stated there is enough information here to help spot these fakes, people outside the forum not privy to this info may be duped

These prints are a piece of shit and should never be sold. The market is saturated with fakes and zero of them have provenance or archival value real or fake. This for sale thread is a con.

It's lies. Only people trying to pump the value say these cant be faked. So dumb, anyone to be buying these.
Not only because it's a rip off and a con perpetuated by the forum... it's also a shit image. Doesn't work without the clock. Bad art all round beside a momento of the show if you actually went.

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by stan139 on May 3, 2021 19:27:09 GMT 1, I secured a few of these at GDP with my kids over the course of the pop-up. The guys handing them out didn't have much of a memory for who'd been there before day on day, and as a result I reckon I could spot a fake. For what it's worth the photo in the image looks legit to me although I admit it may could look different in the flesh. I don't know much about the screen printing process but from what I can tell the wrinkling occurs over time as the extremely thin paper absorbs moisture from the air. I have one framed in my kitchen and that has wrinkled quite a bit - perhaps not the smartest place to put it...the rolled ones I have in a drawer upstairs haven't degraded at all, but some of these were already being crushed a little bit in the security guys hands. I personally wouldn't get too hung up on the state of the wrinkling. There are undoubtedly a lot of these about - but many probably won't last too long either. The paper is thin. Like you could practically use one as a Rizla - so I suspect that many will get destroyed over time and they'll become rarer and, as a result, their value will increase.

Like you could practically use one as a Rizla - so I suspect that many will get destroyed over time and they'll become rarer and, as a result, their value will increase.

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by tab1 on May 3, 2021 20:32:43 GMT 1, But the works are put through an x ray and the paints are examined to check they are from the correct time period to distinguish if they are authentic along with fibers of the paper and canvas tested. Once an item becomes valuable there will always be fakes but then there becomes an industry to detect these. As stated there is enough information here to help spot these fakes, people outside the forum not privy to this info may be duped It's lies. Only people trying to pump the value say these cant be faked. So dumb, anyone to be buying these. Not only because it's a rip off and a con perpetuated by the forum... it's also a shit image. Doesn't work without the clock. Bad art all round beside a momento of the show if you actually went.
No one says they can not be faked, anything of value is generally faked Just you can spot the fakes, just like Tate ward states it is on the buyer to take due diligence before purchasing, that aligns with anything really when purchasing off a stranger
There were Even fakes of banksy prints with coas a few years ago, the market dictates the value, David shrigley prints for example looks awful to me but has a value

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by Matt 2 ttaM on May 3, 2021 20:40:44 GMT 1, These are great! I got a rat for 150£ when these first hit the scene. You know, Banksy prints go for 10’s of thousands so this was a nice gesture to genuine fans who aren’t as well off. As with anything, it’s supply and demand. I mean we are at a point where Banksy artwork on cds and vinyls are selling for a few k. But, with anything in life, buyer beware ... duuuhh. Bashing this print sounds like sour-grapes to me. This has as much provenance as a Monkey Parliament, Petrol Bomb & Soup Can poster and they all seem to be doing decent enough if you want to sell them.

Guys paying 8k at auction for monkey parliament These gdp poster were £100-£150 for a couple of months around release then shot up to 400-600 that’s when the moaning started and that they would come down in price and people were stupid for paying such amounts yet they have climbed since and come back down to around £1200 from a high of 3k Same bickering happened with box sets started at 7k when first released dropped to £400 last year now back around £1500 and people expected to fall to cost. Simple choice to purchase or not, no one truly knows how the market will play out although Tate ward initially had a big influence on prices suppose if laz starts flogging these it might have a ripple effect

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by jackaruno on May 11, 2021 11:54:12 GMT 1, This is how i received the print at the show itself. Hence why I have assessed it as mint. The few others I went along with also received prints that had this same wrinkling.
Thanks for the comment

But thank you for the comment Sad Sad Person
