I should think thatโs pretty obvious from this evenings eBay sale...or is there some hidden meaning in your post?

Banksy CRISIS AS USUAL Print, Gross Domestic Product , by tab1 on Oct 4, 2020 20:38:28 GMT 1, Irrespective of my status, or otherwise, as a cunt. If you think a decent auction house would be interested in a set of unverifiable posters that are likely to fetch, in your estimation, ยฃ10k including fees then you are very much mistaken. Although perhaps our definitions of a decent auction house differ. So - let's look at this this way. Banksy is the biggest "street" (whatever the fuck that means anymore) artist in the game. He is recognized worldwide and everyone wants a piece of the action. I would bet mega bank that these GDP prints will end up in Sotheby auctions in the next few years if he keeps his shine.ย In regards to provenance, you are forgetting that a huge portion of "real" art that gets sold through auction houses does not come with certificates from official authentication bodies. I have bid on Warhol works at Sotheby's before that came with no authenticity certificate. The Warhol foundation dissolved many years ago due to lawsuits and refused to authenticate many, genuine Warhol works due to their own selfish greed. A large number of Warhol works and other artists are authenticated solely through chains of buyers etc etc When you buy something from Sothebys and Christies, even if it is fake, it effectively becomes real. This is called "upgrading" and has been going on in the art world for years. Obviously, 99.9% of artwork sold in these auction houses is legit but I am getting sidetracked here.ย This is how upgrading works: 1. You buy a piece of art that is generally believed by a few experts to be quite likely the genuine deal (old masters can be picked up for 20 to 70k depending on how strong the belief is) 2. You add your own provenance (lending the art out to someone like prince Charles and having it hung in Dumfries house) 3. You then offer the art to a major auction house (they find out its hung in Dumfries place or whatever national gallery and make some assumptions) 4. Art is then sold through auction house and effectively upgraded. Your 60K old master becomes worth mega bank.ย ย Its a little bit more complex than this, but you get the idea.ย The vast majority of real art is sold with provenance - this can be as simple as its chain of ownership or as complex as paint samples and brush strokes being analyzed.ย I highly suggest that everyone read the two following books if you actually want to learn about the art market - both of these books are incredibly well researched andย eye opening. Everyone seems to assume that you can learn most things about everything from Google (Hint: most people don't do years and years of research on a topic and give it away for free) Boom: Mad Money, Mega Dealers, and the Rise of Contemporary Art Selling Contemporary Art: How to Navigate the Evolving Market
Many understand but a few like always want to buy in but their predictions of the print prices will fall making them cheaper to purchase Have clearly failed , by pointing out their reasonings somehow this will Make in their view prices drop What ever the discussion is had here on the forum it does not have any effect on the open market
With the same reasonings presented here for the gdp items not to have any provenance that would effect the sales the same could be had for the posters which are not effected by the reasonings as not all posters have receipts etc and are easier to fake yet people are happy to pay ยฃ1-5k on posters?
For last 10 years I have been reading here , there are always a few posters adamant that the banksy market will fall the following year or the same prints will be cheaper to buy

Banksy CRISIS AS USUAL Print, Gross Domestic Product , by tab1 on Oct 4, 2020 20:51:38 GMT 1, Exactly, speculation until facts are presented in the case of failed auction reserves being met .
As banksy is not churning prints out , the amount of banksy prints in the market Is enough to sustain the high demand and not crash anytime soon unless the artist releases on the scale of mr brainwash

Banksy CRISIS AS USUAL Print, Gross Domestic Product , by Fast Eddie on Oct 4, 2020 20:59:53 GMT 1, Art prices are not anchored by fundamentals (e.g. dividend flows). They result from our collective coordination on what constitutes great art, that is on the collective value attributed to each piece. Technically these prices are bubbles and it is therefore completely plausible that the exponential growth in Banksy prices could slow down and collapse in value over a three months period (just like it went up as much in a similar time frame). Or it could not. You may say Picasso will never go down in value because he is part of the art history canon. Maybe. Plenty of nineteen century artists were though of as part of the canon and now are not. For Banksy the jury is still out.

Banksy CRISIS AS USUAL Print, Gross Domestic Product , by Matt 2 ttaM on Oct 5, 2020 0:14:11 GMT 1, Honestly these GDP prints look great in person and there is enough information to more or less authenticate them to a decent degree. The only fallout on these prints is the paper they are printed on, it isnโt made to last and Im glad at what I spent back during GDP opening. I haven't yet, but if anyone spends any decent chunk on one of these, should take it to a conservator.

Banksy CRISIS AS USUAL Print, Gross Domestic Product , by jp226 on Oct 5, 2020 21:58:29 GMT 1, The GDP free prints are the next thing to hit insanity levels of pricing and quickly, so it seems. I agree. I can see GDP prints hitting close to $5k this time 2021. IMHO, I think the rats will always garner more because the association with Banksy.

not sure about this one the photos arenโt great no images of the back and the paper looks a little bright? Also I canโt understand why the parking ticket doesnโt come with the print makes you wonder if they are keeping it to use as provenance on future sells. This could be genuine but if I was bidding Iโd want some better resolution photos and photos of the back that you can compare to known originals on here.

Nice one ๐๐ผ if I was them Iโd add better images after all thatโs all people have to check itโs legit it will be interesting to see where this ends up judging by the recent crisis sale Iโd be guessing at 4K

I can help explain as Iโm in exactly the same position. Itโs simply down to the fact that I picked up multiple posters on the day and of course only 1x parking ticket. I imagine a lot of sellers will be in a similar position.

They were not given out with a parking ticket.
We just make this stuff up ie the prov is a 'car park ticket' and then it becomes a default. Is it worth less without a car park ticket? Say the child that got it didn't drive a car and lived locally?

Banksy CRISIS AS USUAL Print, Gross Domestic Product , by ajr on Oct 6, 2020 9:29:37 GMT 1, I don't know the seller, but this is real.
Its very easy to tell a genuine vs fake (i've had both!). Been discussed many times (paper quality, spray, back of print, embossing etc). A real one is pretty obvious under hand. I would not get so hung up about provenance.
If you went there and spent all day in Croydon you would most likely have multiple prints but just one parking ticket, hence why some do not provide the ticket. Or ask for google timeline to show they were there.
Funny how people were dissing these as rubbish, not screenprints etc. Apart from the paper used, all 3 are very nice and details up close are great (apart from thrower's fingers, but we know that already ahah!). These were a real bonus for anyone that got them for free and a steal for those who paid a few hundred when they flooded ebay.
Same can be said about the Welcome mats, especially first batch and the WOH merchandise.

Perhaps they went on a family outing and all were given a poster? If itโs of concern why not ask the seller?

Banksy CRISIS AS USUAL Print, Gross Domestic Product , by iamzero on Oct 6, 2020 10:15:28 GMT 1, I donโt have a parking ticket so Iโm guessing mine must be fake? We got out of the train station and couldnโt move anywhere for about 30 minutes until the weather gave way a little. Parking ticket my arse.
