Art Basel • Miami, Hong Kong, Paris, by love on May 28, 2013 0:09:21 GMT 1, It is really huge, my feet and my eyes are hurting after a day at Art Basel, but really worth a visit. If you're into art it's definitly a must see, but don't expect to see some street art there, except 1-2 Shepards.

Colab gallery in Weil (just at the boarder to Switzerland) will also have a nice show with Logan Hicks, Snik, Sobekcis et al. (Public Provocations).
Further small shows will also be there but Art Basel, Volta, Scope and Liste are definitely the most important ones

Art Basel • Miami, Hong Kong, Paris, by sin on Oct 15, 2014 15:54:08 GMT 1, I will update this as I hear more info
FAIRS
Beach side Scope - More urban than most fairs. Thinkspace was here last year, and I believe will be back this year. Their VIP program is meh, nothing special, a gift bag that is sparse on gifts and a gala on Tuesday. Some galleries don't have all their work in by Tuesday so I say go Wednesday. Untitled - Great VIP program. Their gala night / preview night had Marina Abromovic and Elton John last year. Lots of conceptual and abstract work. Not what I collect but overall I am most challenged and excited by this fair. Pulse - Great VIP program. Their brunch is great, go. This is their first year on the beach and they are up on 46th street by the Fountain Bleu. I am excited to see what they do this year, big departure, new head of the fair, its either going to rock or be a wet fire cracker. ART | Basel - It's no moon, its a space station! Its HUGE, everything from massive street works to 8 foot tall balls of tin foil for $1,000,000. Its a site to behold. The Vernissage is worth it, a bit snooty but if you have never been, go once. It's the top of the mountain. Aqua - Hotel takeover, party atmosphere. Each gallery takes over a room in your typical miami SOBE hotel. I love this fair, love the atmosphere. Great place to find some emerging work or interesting work you are likely not to find or miss elsewhere. NADA - Little secret, sometimes you can score a room here if you know a gallery exhibiting and the rates are CHEAP!. Not my favorite show. Some gems, and its free and I love the hotel its in and its away from everything but it's never blown me away. If you are up at Pulse I would go, but otherwise not something I would miss something else for. Select - Never been, no feedback Ink Miami - Never been, no feedback Design Miami - Never been, but always here good things, for the right type of collector, someone looking to furnish a home or get ideas, right next to Art | Basel.
City side Art Miami - I have regularly lambashed this fair and I'll spare you the diatribe. Biggest fair in mid-town, s**t show organization, JLG decided to show here this year, has a good Brett Armory show that is Miami themed so I am going to do even though I hate the fair. They show the stolen Banksy pieces, use street art as decoration but have a bunch of the worst type of galleries showing the same s**t. Sorry, I'm not a fan. CONTEXT - This is supposed to be the emerging side of Art Miami but its just more of the same IMHO. The idea is good, the execution sucks. Miami Project - Solid fair. Joshua Liner exhibited some monster Kuksi pieces there last year. In a world where it seems like they always try to see how many booths they can fit in a space, this fair leaves room to breathe and it really offers a better experience. I believe David B Smith was there last year as well. The fair moved down the street an looks like they took over bigger space. Spectrum - I didnt go to Spectrum last year. I may go this year. Nothing really drawing me in. Feel a bit like a fair that exists to provide space for folks that didnt make it into Scope, Pulse, Art Miami. Art Spot - Their focus this year is latin american art, they are partnered with Spectrum Concept-Fair - This is next to the Perez Art Museum Miami (Our new museum) if you went to the PAMM and did this, might be a good day. Open later, so you could hit this after the other fairs shut at 6, and then go out after. Fridge Art Fair - This is in Calle Ocho (8th Street) historic latin american neighborhood. If you want to check out some of what is authentic Miami, this might make that trip worth it. Really dont get the focus, but its nice to see something pop up in this part of town. Miami Photo Salon Festival - Photography focused fair. Miami River Art Fair - This is in downtown, along the Miami River District. The district is popping at the moment, lots of cool restarants. The guys that throw this fair throw other fairs that all seem to cater to a more affluent, more decorative crowd IMHO. Prizm - A focus on African art. New fair, not familiar. Red Dot - JAAF = J.ust A.nother A.rt F.air, I've been to RedDot, never seen anything that amazed me.
Stand alone exhibits ART | History - Miami Marine Stadium Benefit Exhibit (Mid-Town) - 23 artists, local, national, international. Almost entirely urban focused. Mural program, the revenue from sales is split between the artists and Friends of Miami Marine Stadium. Great art, great cause. (fair disclosure, this is my event)
Artist Ron English / Doze Green / Logan Hicks / Crash / Tristan Eaton / Elbow Toe / Axel Void / HoxxoH / Stinkfish / Tatiana Suarez / Abstrk / Pixel Pancho / Joe Iurato / Ian Kuali'i / Luis Berros / Rone / Evoca 1 / Dabs Myla / The London Police / Reinier Gamboa / Johnny Robles / Jose Mertz
The Library Street Collective (Wynwood) - They are setting up shop right next to Wynwood Walls, the lineup is really strong. I will not miss this, even with my own show going on. They also have a mural program, not a lot of details right now but it promises to be big.
Artists (I saw a flyer, need to double check, these I am sure of) How & Nosm, Swoon, Vhils (there are like 20 more and its massive)
Herakut Solo (Wynwood) - This is is MANA which is 150,000 square feet of production space. They wont take all the space, but it offers a lot of opportunity. They are doing some walls as well.
Events James Blake & FKA Twigs (Young Arts, iii Points)
Tips Fly into FLL not MIA. Flights are cheaper, airport is smaller and less of a s**t show, it actually takes the same time to get to your hotel considering the clusterf**k on the highway between MIA and downtown / SOBE.
When traveling between the beach and the city, use the venetian causeway. Its far less traveled, there is a toll but the time saving is worth it.
If you plan to come, request VIP status from the fairs you want to visit now. You will need to provide some credential (artists in your collection, galleries you buy from, etc) Most fairs are easy to get approval from, particularly the newer fairs. Art | Basel has many options of comp, you can get a single day ticket comp, Vernissage access, multi day comp or VIP. If you want Vernissage mention you are showing up to a specific booth to see specific work and make a purchase, that has always worked for me.
I will update this as I hear more info
