I am not an hypocrite, I know that everybody on here bought them for retirements and/or placements, as it's a Banksy..

Anyway, it's not a reproach, ti's like the conversation the other day about an artwork signed or unsigned, that it does not matter...
I would kept it in the box, in a cupboard.
First ones from GDP were genius with the bag... Very classy.

Never got the email to purchase, but never pursued one on the secondary market either as I just planned to purchase directly from LW, one day. Pleased to have got one off the Bay earlier this morning though seeing these posts. Always had appreciation and respect for this piece and excited to finally get it in a frame and up on the wall. Definitely a great conversation piece and socially/historically relevant B/GDP item. Must say though, the bits sand on these has always hit me pretty hard. It's definitely a heavy piece IMHO.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Smokeidaeye on Jan 12, 2023 22:30:39 GMT 1, I was wondering when this day would come, not because of a possible spike in prices (mine is in a frame and on the wall where it belongs in the home of a douche like me), but because these folks at Love Welcomes have to have been flooded with thousands of emails from hungry flippers every week asking when they can buy more.
Anyway, I do think it was a brilliant way to tell the story of these migrants, plus it is a really interesting piece for me to look at just like anything else I deem to be "art" in my home, be it defaced currency, vinyl cartoon figures, glass balloon animals, or a simple painting.

After two days of intense frenzy on this thread (and without criticizing anyone, everyone is free - I'm just giving you my impressions), I'm left with a strange taste, not really bitter, but really weird: re-reading the posts, we can see that some are delighted with the end of the Welcome Mat adventure (such as those who first buy an artwork without telling anyone, and who, once carded, post the book or the print in question, so that this one is sold out!), is a bit sad all the same. Love Welcome are super friendly, and will be releasing more pieces but who will still buy from them (I usually have tees)?
In fact, to read certain posts, one would believe to follow the courses of the Stock Exchange, of a kind of Start Up on which people invested. Seems like they were just waiting for that, the out of stock, and the prices to go up.
This work is so precious, with so much meaning and history, made with life jackets, that yes, these stories of money, of investment, spoil the trip a bit (Banksian 's humor), and the landscape.
Don't forget Love Welcome.
(this is just my opinion, clumsily written, so it doesn't spoil your love for that Welcome Mat you cherish I imagine)...
But the "courses" at the gallery owners, the ebay links etc... are a bit irrelevant, I think.
When I bought the Anarchists poster, it was because I wanted it, for painting, not as an investment, nor wondering if it would one day increase in value...
Back then we weren't talking about money.

Though the edition size may be close to 4,000 units sold I still believe that is a relatively small number when you consider how many people may want one. I think of the Damien Hirst Currency pieces, 10k made of the physical paintings but only about 5.1k kept and these pieces are selling on the secondary private market for over $15k per piece. I can see the first edition mats, with the tags stitched in the back going for a bit more than the tags with strings but over time they are both going to be highly desirable similar to non signed Banksy prints.
