Unit Drops is delighted to announce two brand-new limited edition releases from Damian Elwes' Artist's Studio Series:
Following the sold-out success of Basquiat's Studio IV, Unit Drops is delighted to present two brand-new limited edition prints from Damain Elwes' Artist's Studio series. Roy Lichtenstein's Studio and Kusama's Studio II will launch exclusively via unitdrops.com on Thursday 19th November at 6pm GMT.
This special double-release runs alongside Where Art Happens: From Klint to Party, Damian Elwes' first solo exhibition with Unit London also opening in November.
In these editions, Damian Elwes chooses points in time when both artists were at their most inventive and examines the very heart of the creative process. Elwes researched Roy Lichtenstein's studios for many years, before focussing specifically on his paintings from the early sixties. This particular edition captures Lichtenstein's New York studio at the moment when the artist begins to evolve his iconic comic-book style and incorporate the trade-mark Ben-Day dots into his practice.

In Kusama's Studio II, the viewer is invited into Yayoi Kusama's modern-day studio, housed in the Tokyo mental institution where the artist lives by choice. Here we find the artist's rolling chair and huge working table, surrounded by countless paintings leaning against the walls and enclosing the space. The paintings are covered in the famous dots that pervade Kusama's work and originate from the walls of her childhood home where similar patterns provided her with a feeling of safety and comfort.

HENRI MATISSE - THE CUT OUTS 1958
This week weโre focussing on Matisseโ quintessential works known as the โCut-Outsโ.Instantly recognisable as his work, they have been endlessly copied, re-interpreted and reproduced without ever being bettered.These works transcend design trends and look equally good in a contemporary or traditional home. They have easily been the most popular group of works by any artist we sell.
These lithographs were worked on by the artist between 1950 โ 54 and as his final works, they bear testament to his enduring genius.
The artist died in 1954 and the unfinished works were compiled into a collection by master lithographer Mourlot, who had worked on the project with Matisse. As a result, the paper, colour, and specification are as Matisse would have wished. The colours are rich, and the paper is heavy.
At present we can offer the entire portfolio of the 40 colour lithographs printed by Mourlot. Each has been individually mounted and framed using conservation grade materials and anti-UVA glass.

We appreciate the support during tumultuous times, and weโve made a sincere attempt to participate in as many charity releases as possible in an effort to help causes and communities to the best of our abilities during these times!
As is our yearly tradition, weโre releasing our special Black Friday mystery tubes this Friday, November 20th ahead of all the potential madness.
Each tube consists of at least five (5) random prints from past releases, sold out prints, printer proofs, test prints, scratch and dent, etc and costs $85. We personally assemble every tube so that there are no duplicates, and we curate each tubeโs selection to be valued at way more than $85!

Long considered a secondary medium and often associated with ephemeral art, the historical trajectory of artists' books intertwines with most of the leading developments in contemporary art practices.
Indeedโparticularly in the case of conceptual artโthe artists' book or catalog was often the primary iteration of art work which did not exist as an object but rather as a set of ideas, processes, actions or instructions. This sampling of artists' books from a hotbed period of experimentation reflects this phenomenonโif the idea is the most important aspect of the artwork, then it is the representation of that idea, and not the object which carries the most significance.
From responses to physical space in Luciano Bartoliniโs textural experiments and Alanna Heissโ inaugural exhibition at P.S. 1 to Nam June Paikโs widely viewed television broadcast and Tina L'Hotskyโs found and repurposed pin-up photographs, this selection represents an array of approaches, styles and strategies that affirm the validity of the artists' publication as a work of art in its own right.

Chinese artist Jacky Tsaiโs inventive approach fuses traditional eastern imagery and artistic techniques with references from western pop culture to create artworks that seek to determine balance and harmony between cultural extremes.
Originally entering the limelight in 2008 after he created the now iconic floral skull illustration for British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, Tsai works across many mediums including painting, sculpture, installation, screen printing and mono printing. In recent years, a large part of his working process has been to explore ancient Chinese artistry techniques such as lacquer carving, painted porcelain and โSuxiuโ silk embroidery, and as a result has since produced a number of works applied in these mediums.
For CCA, Tsai has created two print editions. โWedded Blissโ is indicative of the artistโs recognisible graphic style that uses symbolic references from traditional eastern art and literature to create a narrative. Inspired by and named after one of the four chapters in the autobiography โSix Records of Floating Lifeโ by the 18th century Chinese writer Shen Fu, โWedded Blissโ tells the story of a young Chinese girl who looks into her bedroom mirror and sees herself in a future life.
