I hear yeah.
Invader is part of graffiti royalty so it’s not so insane the price, as my estate agent once said “everything as a value, the question is how long the world takes to catch up with your valuation”.
I think the more important question is, this is an average image and one of a boy in his pants. pants and boy.
I’ve already called the cops

Agreed. Potential to be huge. Are we sure this isn't a mistake, and they put on an extra zero by accident - putting it in the middle of the estimated range?
If it's not a mistake, it was nice buying Invaders while we could afford them.

That was definitely the case with marijuana money a few years ago in California. Probably hasn’t stopped.

Invader at Sotherbys sold for 1,220,000 usd, by mmmike on Nov 17, 2019 14:45:07 GMT 1, My guess is someone pumped up the price to get publicity and hopefully build hype to drive prices up. In the case of Kaws I'm pretty sure that is the case because the Mugrabi family invests in Kaws and have said they they do just that. They will support works by their artists at auction to ensure prices continue to rise. Keep in mind they likely don't give a fuck about the small toys and prints. My guess is support at that level will die in the next 5 years or so.
In this case my guess (based on really nothing) is this is an attempt to do the same thing. Time will tell if the backer here (maybe Invader's camp itself) has the cash to keep it up.
Either way I think I'm in the minority here. When I see things like this it tends to kill my interest in the art and the artist.
I prefer the Shepard Fairey model of flooding the market so everyone who actually enjoys the art can get something at an affordable price.
