GDP Banksy Rat, Thrower, Crisis As Usual, by Inknart on Dec 21, 2019 16:44:02 GMT 1, As with most things here, it's not unusual to see bias. People who have these are saying they're prints. I have one, and they are not prints, just posters. There are plenty of silkscreen and lithographed posters in the olden days, the lack of text doesn't make them special. These will not 'find their way into collections' (lol). Cheap paper, no pc, easily reproduced, prices dropping all the time. Enjoy them for what they are, a free memento. Not posters imo, as the technique is different from an offset litho like soup cans which have many more hanging about that sell for more.
So donโt think they can be easily reproduced.
i canโt find a legitimate crisis either for anything under 600, so if you find one send them my way.
ive also seen a screenshot of these from gdp from someone involved that had them broken out into edition numbers 1000 for the rat ect, so not sure If they will be cranking more out. Even saw a multi colored rat variation that didnโt get pushed through.
this of course is my biased opinion. And even though I paid top dollar for mine, think theyโre much more than just a memento to me.

You're confusing the 'techniques being different' in order to try to justify the top dolla you paid to elevate them into something that doesn't exist. They are a memento ; given away free, to visitors (mainly kids, who had dad's drag them along late at night to flip), for the time - limited installation. Not sold and will not be available anywhere else, they are something to remember the event by.

Not sold and will not be available anywhere else, they are something to remember the event by. That would be the equivalent to saying that even if they were signed and numbered and given away , they would still be a โmemento.โ I find the fact that something was given away for free that it discredits the validity of the piece in general and can be discarded as not legitimate and only a free giveaway memento. I could care more or less if they go up or down, but for the sake of argument donโt think theyโre as invaluable or in-special as youโre highlighting them to be.

That is true, would have been amazing to have received something like this first hand for free. At that point they would have been considered a memento I suppose , but wouldnโt sway my opinion on what theyโre and are viewed as. Clearly the people who received them for free and sold them didnโt view them as a memento.

GDP Banksy Rat, Thrower, Crisis As Usual, by Terry Fuckwitt on Dec 21, 2019 17:06:53 GMT 1, I googled prints vs posters and it's interesting to read others views on what the difference is. It has definitely swerved me to think they are more a poster than a print.

โThis is Banksyโs first experiment with a new technique for making prints - spray the stencil onto processing film and expose the result directly onto a silk screen.โ
sounds like much more than a poster to me

Most articles I have read tend to concentrate more on the quality of paper used, rather than the technique used. Prior to introduction of inkjet most posters would have been screen printed. Would you be happy purchasing a print from a gallery and the print arrived on this type of paper? I would say, you would probably send it back, saying its a poster not a print.

I guess whoever receives a rat clock or the flower thrower pieces will be quite disappointed in the results as theyโre the same as posters on different paper stock and cheap clocks.
just offering my opinion, but now moving on. Carry on members. Good discussion! And thank you everyone for not getting personal!

your assumption makes sense...thin paper, cardboard, and recycled materials.

I don't own any of them, I had a chance on 100% genuine ones, but passed as I don't think I would have framed them. I was just interested in the print vs poster discussion, but not sure if there is a definitive answer. Where's met when we need him? ๐ค

i.e:
artist is hired to do a concert gig poster..said artist hands in image, then it is screenprinted on goodstuff paper signed and numbered and sold as the gig poster. MerchStand : " We have this poster available" artist is hired to do a multiples of the image used for the gig print, but without the band name...said artist hands in image, then it is screenprinted on goodstuff paper signed and numbered and sold at XYZ gallery. gallery: "We have this print available"

GDP Banksy Rat, Thrower, Crisis As Usual, by vvk on Dec 21, 2019 18:50:12 GMT 1, not to get off topic, but it was not to long ago in history that most "posters" were also hand painted due to access to means, and or cost. The materials and equipment to make prints / multiples were just not readily available. You still see hand made posters today, they are at Pickett lines, in front of peoples houses selling lemande and driving thought out the country in front of fruit stands. Some of americas best folk art can be found in this manner.
a poster can be hand painted or mechanically made, however a print is just that . a print wether it be inkjet, photo copy made in a dark room etc. its essentially a copy of the original. in some cases as good as the original and in most slight different the the original.
this "technique of spraying on film" being mentioned is rather a old technique, and like most techniques found by artist and people since the start of time, was developed as a necessity of working within your means, Back in the day (early 90's) film seperations ( the mylar/ polyester clear material that had Each color printed in black on it) were to expensive for most artist let alone for a third rate artist. For instance during the barely legal show a color seperation film made from a digital file being the size of a sheet of letter paper ran about $25-40 (us) a color. the average 18x24 piece size cost about $100.00 +.(average rent for a 1 bed room apartment was $500.00 a month In los angels) Artist Like most people throughout time have had to find ways to work within their means. One of the best ways of doing this was to make your own seperations with clear film, sharpies , airbrushes, exacto knives etc. This def was not the first time team B used this techniques, its just the first time they are saying they are using it. With some art pcs , the story is part of what makes it have that extra wow factor. In other words - helps make it look pretty dope. And for whats its worth, the rat was made on a ipad

And for whats its worth, the rat was made on a ipad
i think that they are trying to maximise the donation number by using certain materials in the art, it makes sense as the stunt was mainly for donations to the charities and not for personal gain
not to get off topic, but it was not to long ago in history that most "posters" were also hand painted due to access to means, and or cost. The materials and equipment to make prints / multiples were just not readily available. You still see hand made posters today, they are at Pickett lines, in front of peoples houses selling lemande and driving thought out the country in front of fruit stands. GDP Banksy Rat, Thrower, Crisis As Usual, by Deleted on Dec 21, 2019 19:34:30 GMT 1, Not posters imo, as the technique is different from an offset litho like soup cans which have many more hanging about that sell for more.ย So donโt think they can be easily reproduced. i canโt find a legitimate crisis either for anything under 600, so if you find one send them my way.ย ive also seen a screenshot of these from gdp from someone involved that had them broken out into edition numbers 1000 for the rat ect, so not sure Iโd they will be cranking more out. Even saw a multi colored rat variation that didnโt get pushed through.ย this of course is my biased opinion. And even though I paid top dollar for mine, think theyโre much more than just a memento.ย You're confusing the 'techniques being different' in order to try to justify the top dolla you paid to elevate them into something that doesn't exist. They are a memento ; given away free, to visitors (mainly kids, who had dad's drag them along late at night to flip), for the time - limited installation. Not sold and will not be available anywhere else, they are something to remember the event by.

GDP Banksy Rat, Thrower, Crisis As Usual, by vvk on Dec 21, 2019 19:40:42 GMT 1, I don't own any of them, I had a chance on 100% genuine ones, but passed as I don't think I would have framed them. I was just interested in the print vs poster discussion, but not sure if there is a definitive answer. Where's met when we need him? ๐ค the more the time goes by, the more I seem to like the 3 prints and the more I find the some of the other items to be gimmicky. Dont get me wrong, they are all nice items i just really like the 3 prints. I love the art and i love the story especially about the parents taking their for the sole purpose of getting the prints just to turn around and flip em. some did it for xmass presents, some fdid it for rent money and to put food on the their kids plates, and others just did it for the quick buck. I can relate to every case. Including the ones that decided to keep em. Im looking forward to keeping these, each one of these have a special meaning to me, and i know exactly where they will be going / hanging. In my eyes its another example of how some of the most collectable things are those that were never meant to be collected in the first place. free hand outs.

Don't get me wrong, I like them, especially the rat. I've just got a bit of ocd and not sure I could live with the ripples. If I see a little thunderbug thingy inside a frame, it pisses me off so much I'll remove the backing to get the little bugger out ๐

GDP Banksy Rat, Thrower, Crisis As Usual, by vvk on Dec 21, 2019 20:22:37 GMT 1, the ripples, page curls, and crumbled edges all adds to it for me. to seem them rolled ep and handed out to young ones with out care to be clutched with a death grip naging up against evey other person in the qus as your parents drag you from here and there, bent, torn and otherwise manhandled . Im just sad that they did not set up a table with crayons for the kids to draw on the prints. .Essentially "ruining" (depending on how you look @ it) a work of art by a famous artist. Now that would be epic! hehe

Iโm thinking of the zeros on the end of them. But if they are posters then Iโll happily pay a few hundred for them.

GDP Banksy Rat, Thrower, Crisis As Usual, by Deleted on Dec 21, 2019 22:18:22 GMT 1, Not posters imo, as the technique is different from an offset litho like soup cans which have many more hanging about that sell for more.ย So donโt think they can be easily reproduced. i canโt find a legitimate crisis either for anything under 600, so if you find one send them my way.ย ive also seen a screenshot of these from gdp from someone involved that had them broken out into edition numbers 1000 for the rat ect, so not sure Iโd they will be cranking more out.
The truth is they are prints
I dont care If they are 5 pound prints or 5 grand prints. They are prints
