Yeah, it made up for the silly pricing on some of the others....Nola (original edition of 289) for £4,250 anyone?

London Art Fair, by Sundowner on Jan 14, 2010 19:30:39 GMT 1, That said, I was impressed with some of the pieces on Paul Stolper's stand. The Gavin Turks on glass (Warhol, Che & Elvis) were nice and the 28 colour screened diamond dust Hirst's looked the business (although I'm not sure I'd pay nearly £6k for one).

London Art Fair, by pezlow on Jan 14, 2010 21:07:11 GMT 1, I went along to the London Art fair and enjoyed my trip. There are plenty of different styles and pieces to see and although there was quite of lot of somewhat uninspired and rather boring art for my taste there were some gems mixed in.
I particularly like the huge Susie Hamilton canvas on the paul stolper stand, recognisably by Susie Hamilton but her work is changing quite a lot. She remains one of my favourite artists. One day I will get a big piece by her to go with my (very small) RCA secret postcard.
I also liked quite a few of the galleries that were exhibiting in the project space, particularly the Bearspace gallery in Deptford which had an eclectic mix of very limited edition works by up and coming artists, many of which I liked.
Is it me or did there seem to be more editioned work (and galleries selling editioned work) over originals now? Also there was quite a lot of gallery flipping going on. I saw at least 2 galleries who had the recent print that Bridget Riley released with the Whitechapel gallery and they were asking for 4 to 5 times its original cost.
Bargain of the fair is on the Advanced Graphics stand. They are selling a smallish Albert Irvin screenprint, edition of 250, for £250 plus VAT. It is to celebrate the release of a book of all Irvin's prints which is released in September and for that price you also get a signed book and an invite to the private view so that "Bert" can dedicate your book. An absolute steal I thought. I was very tempted...but resisted. My friend who I went to the fair with bought one though, and elected to have it John Jones framed for £125 plus VAT. Not a bad price at all.

So £375 het you a Albert Irvin print, book and JJ frame, does sound like a bargain.

London Art Fair, by schlomo on Jan 14, 2010 23:31:04 GMT 1, Was down there myself tonight Pez, would have said hello if i saw you.
Highlight for me was some paintings on the middle floor by Andrew Gilford in the Albermarle gallery stand, 'View towards Battersea from Albert Embankment', a series of 8 paintings done at different times of the day, stunning. Annoyed not to have had my camera with me.
That and getting the Herakut perfect merge special edition set with print from the jealous print gallery. tidy.

London Art Fair, by harryh74 on Jan 15, 2010 1:19:25 GMT 1, I went down tonight and found some lovely things, The Peter Blake Flag3 print was so good in the flesh I am gutted I did not pull the trigger when I had the chance (price has doubled on the ones tonight) I was really taken by the Eduardo Paolozzi prints at Sims Reed Gallery, I'm gonna get me one of those. Love the Vic Reeves in a pure big night out way. Oh yeah!, to the bloke on the "Dominic Guerrini fine art" letting your pissed up mate pretend hes running things while being abusive to folk may be funny in the moment, however you lost a decent offer on your Faile..

London Art Fair, by Agent Provocateur on Jan 15, 2010 10:39:02 GMT 1, Went last night too, good to catch up with you Schlomo and great to have a quick chat with Retrome (Harry and Pez missed you both!). Here's some of my pics.
Guy Denning
Jef Aerosol (lurved these stencils on cardboard)
Peter Blake (smallish and square, great)
Damien Hirst
Nathan Ford (these small portraits were fantastic, this cool dude was my favourite... there was also a large portrait that was stunning)
Mark Demsteader
And now for some fun... this round cow looked classic!
Plus there was a whole gallery dedicated to 'burnt toast' art, go figure
Phone pics I'm afraid but hope you get the gist.

That cow was awesome, I liked the bull more though. The horns just made it look even more ridiculous.
Going to have another wander around today.

I thought that signed Happy Chopper looked a little "suspect". Anyone else look at it? The overlapping of the colours was much more obvious and extreme than my unsigned one, and the paper looked more textured.

London Art Fair, by harryh74 on Jan 15, 2010 20:07:11 GMT 1, Yes around that, maybe £1600 was the price but they only had AP's left, the lovely lady I chatted to said they had 5 from the numbered run that had all sold and had called up a couple of AP's from the artist. I was a little drunk so she could have been speeching me in a professional saleswomanly way Sorry I missed you Ian, it would have been good to chat and share a couple of glasses of that fine JD sour stuff they were giving away.

London Art Fair, by paul on Jan 15, 2010 23:06:35 GMT 1, This my one - only have one wall in the house it fits on. She also did some fantastic jungle canvases and a series of "etherial images" which were very cool. Going down tomorrow to the Art fair so looking forward to seeing some of her work on display. Very under rated in my view.
