Unlimted print runs...., by Octopus UK on Apr 2, 2007 15:49:02 GMT 1, The only Banksy I have is the poster of the soup cans - unlimited in number. Nice image and it's on my walls, next to Warhol soup cans (re-production!) and a Sainsbury soup tin.

Unlimted print runs...., by Strange Al on Apr 2, 2007 15:58:51 GMT 1, This has been discussed elsewhere and is IMO the only thing which would actually solve the scalper/flipper issue.
While we have the soup can poster, it's very much that a "poster". I'd love to see Banksy do a couple of open edition screen prints with all of the money going to charity. As well as earning a hefty sum for charity, it would also be a proper indicator of what the real demand on the Banksy market currently is.
Though I can think of plenty of reasons why this isn't attractive to POW or Banksy. Moreover, if we're honest I think a lot of people like the exclusivity of the scene.

I agree, I've no problem about open edition, not bothered about the exclusivity, I'd definitely prefer a screen print to litho poster and would be more than happy to spend between £50 and £100 on one.

I'll be honest and say that the reason i buy them is because they are limited and i'm not going to gop round my mates house and see the same thing on his walls.
I think the problem is the fact you are after open ended unlimited screenprints and not "posters" (like soupcans). A screenprint is more expensive and much more time consuming to print than a "poster" therefore not viable as low cost unlimited item.
However I dont see why they dont make half sized poster versions of the screen prints then everyone is happy.
;D

Although it's not low cost, I think a lot of people would pay £50 - £100 for one, and at that price plenty of profit in it for POW and Banksy.

Unlimted print runs...., by slowmo on Apr 2, 2007 16:52:36 GMT 1, I don't own the soupcan poster, but wouldn't pay £10 for the originals either. Unlike a lot of people I didn't like his pop art stuff and so let the soup can variants and Kate Moss pass me by. I still have no regrets about it. I didn't like the rats either, controversial I know, but thought they lost a lot when found on walls (living room that is) instead of the street. However unlike the Soupcans I do regret not getting a because I'm worthless rat which has grown steadily on me over the last six months or so.
In fact if he were to do an unlimited screen print, I would like it to be a rat, as it is very much a trademark of his and hails back to when he used to hitthe streets hard. Summer is round the corner, will he be back? Not a lot left on the streets these days it seems.

Unlimted print runs...., by phat planet on Apr 2, 2007 17:16:52 GMT 1, Why the hell our so many of people obsessed with possible future BANKSY print releases.. where big portions of money go to charity??
Dont get me wrong Im all for charity but why does banksy have to give money for charity when he becomes a successful artist??
I have read many many amny times on this board "POW should do this.. BANKSY should do that.. money should go to charity.."
When did Banksy ever say he was here to save the world??
Get a life BANKSY should get a fxxk off porsche... which I think he has and drive it back to any one of his country houses
I hope he gets fat and rich and does what ever he pleases with HIS money!
He has already given more to charity than OASIS, THE ARCTIC MONKEYS or the ARSENAL front line so who gives a flying FxxK what he does with his growing riches.. And besides how do you know he does already give loads top charity??? you dont have a clue..I dont have clue either and dont care.
Let it go.

Good point made, most of us probably dont have a soupcan poster adorning our walls, so if we're honest there's more to it than just the appreciation of the artists work..most of us like to own something a little special, a little out of the ordinary, something a little closer to the artist even, so the little number, the stamp, the pencil squiggle and the canvas original if you can afford it mean something too.
It doesnt matter to some people but i think they might be the exception rather than the rule, it's human nature to covet something different. Many topics on this forum are about the prints signed, numbered or otherwise without it would this type of forum even exist?

Haven't bought one because I don't really like it, also I'm not interested in a litho poster.
Would be interested in another image like these from the LA show as screen prints, but I'm not bothered about them being signed and numbered as long as the price is right.

He wasnt the only person to post this kind of response....Hes basically saying that to own something out of the ordinary makes it more desirable...
Oh I wasnt comparing Banksy to other artists... so your Aston Martin / Ford arguement is flawed.
Aston Martin dont release an edition of 650 that you can only buy thru a website that crashes...They are available to all that have the money...not the same with a Banksy.....
Maybe Im wrong, but then I havent got 3 star or an 8 star member.. Oh well, you guys are forum experts... I take it all back...

Unlimted print runs...., by corblimeylimey on Apr 2, 2007 18:08:43 GMT 1, But limiting the edition does make them more costly, the Aston Ford comparison was to bring the point that the Aston is exclusive because it's expensive, if the same item was as cheap as a Ford and therefore as common as one does that make it any less a product.
Surely Banksy's art was not meant to be exclusive, it was put up in the streets for all.
The star thing has nothing to do with knowledge, or expertise it's just reflects the amount of posts, whatever the quality of them.

Supply & demand has got nothing to do with it, more to do with making things expensive if there's not enough to go round.
If there was enough to go round, yes they may be cheaper, and that's the point I'm trying to make, cheaper yes but product the same so I'd be just as happy, whats the big deal with having something someone else can't have.
